@MetalStorm Have you considered asking at academia SE? Life is often simpler where and when you are familiar with how things work, but if you are adventurous and searching to expand your horizons, or just see more opportunity abroad, then travel may be worthwhile. One thing to consider is that English is not lingua franca outside of academia, and even within academia you will need to learn the language (perhaps down the road) to teach local students, depending on subject.
Networking, starting by contacting people you know, eventually those you think do interesting stuff, might get you a foot in the door. Initiative, grades, past experience, all count.
Regarding employment opportunities, in the USA the ACS produces reports on the job market for chemists. There is a European Chemical Society and countries have local societies. A web search of job openings might be useful to understand what the market is looking for, and what you might want to do.

Cheminformatics has grown steadily (just like IT generally) but not sure of its current state. ACS: acs.org/careers/chemical-sciences/fields/cheminformatics.html For funding you might get an idea with "research funding by field chemistry". There's also a reddit page: reddit.com/r/chemistry/comments/14h7vhp/…
