No offense. But I was highly amused. :D

anyone know a very comprehensive list of trans-effect/trans-influence characters of different ligands? I'm wondering how triflate compares to acetonitrile as a trans-affector.

@Zhe ok! It really wasn't what I was aiming for (I just wanted a similar-sounding word), but that stereotype is essentially a meme back home in SE Asia, we make fun of our own inability to pronounce l/r... I just thought I should check. :)

hey guys, so this is given in one of my chem pdfs
(the reactant is phenyl chrloride)
and then theres this
why are the products in both of them involving Br, when Cl is the original halide? It must be a mistake right? But its been repeated twice so I asked just to be safe..

@MartianCactus seems to be a typo, or a write-o in this case.
also, RCH2CH2Cl -> RCH2MgBr has one carbon magically disappearing...
whoever made this is slightly sloppy, but you seem to be on top of it

NH4OH + Mg ---> Mg (OH)2 + NH4+ is it correct?

Q: How to identify hydrogen bonds and other non-covalent interactions from structure considerations?

Martin - マーチンChemistry is governed by a wide range of interactions, from ionic and covalent bonding, or other types of strong interactions, towards weaker types of bonding, attraction, or repulsion, that typically occur between molecules. The latter are often referred to as chemical, molecular, or non-covalen...

@Curio The equation isn't balanced. And NH4OH doesn't exist.
