Q: Why are reactions involving weaker electrophiles controlled by hyperconjugation?

Avatar ShinyConsidering EAS Strong EAS reactions (nitration) are said to be governed by Inductive effects thus the order of nitration is D>C>B>A 2.Chlorination is not a strong electrophile so it is said the be governed by hyper conjugation. A>B>C>D My question is : why? The factors c...

Q: Are the lone pairs in water equivalent?

jheindelI've read that the oxygen atom in water is $\mathrm{sp^2}$ hybridized, such that one of the oxygen lone pairs should be in an $\mathrm{sp^2}$ orbital and the other should be in a pure p atomic orbital. First, am I correct about the lone pairs being non-equivalent? Second, if so, does this have ...

Q: Carbon tetraradical

Tan Yong BoonI was just reading through Reactions: The private life of atoms by Peter Atkins and I noticed that in Chapter 3, the chapter on the combustion reaction, the author writes: As we watch we see $\ce {CH_4}$ being whittled down to naked $\ce {C}$ as its $\ce{H}$ atoms are stripped away by radica...

Q: What is the relative size of the (M+2) peak?

Tan Yong BoonThe $(M+1)$ peak is often considered in the high-resolution mass spectra of organic molecules as it reveals the number of carbon atoms in the sample. In general, it is known that the ratio of the size of the $M$ to $(M+1)$ peaks is $98.9 : 1.1 \times n $ since the relative abundance in nature of ...

Hey guys, does anyone know why ChemDraw 16 would produce PNG image with tons of artifacts regardless of DPI and whether the image is transparent or not? Vector formats work fine, but raster picture is always "dirty":

Hi guys!
I wanted to ask that why is it that if there's a plane of symmetry in a molecule, it is not chiral?

@Abcd Both are are achiral since they consist of two identical "halves" and in the mirror image the left and right halves are transformed into each other or without any rotations.

@andselisk Okay, thanks.

6:22 PM
@andselisk strange. Clearly looks like a jpg picture.

@Loong As I said, the same problem persists with transparent PNG images, so it's shouldn't be JPEG renamed to PNG, I guess. However, I haven't touched any options in ChemDraw, and this is how it works out of the box. I though maybe I need to tick an option "don't screw my images" somewhere, but I have very little experience with CD.

Did you also try a different viewer to check the png files?

@Loong Yep, and if I upload the image to SX sites, it also appears just as messy in the browser.

Otherwise, why would they stop chatting?

I'll never understand you.

Waiting for your constructive input :-)

BUT! * Making a model of Loong*
@Loong well, I don't have access to computers for 15 hours
