@pentavalentcarbon Pretty much. They tend to be poor questions for a SE site. Either RTFM, or questions that are either too broad or opinion-based. (@M.A.R.)
"What is the best functional to use?"
"When should I use MP2 instead of DFT?"
"When should I use coupled cluster instead of MP2?"
"When should I use multireference methods?"
Answer to all? "It depends."
(A lot. On a lot of things.)
03:33
@hBy2Py Actually, I think most of those are fine...I think the few questions we get are mostly technical questions solved by reading the manual.
People are fantastically bad at reading manuals.
I know reading is a pain, but come on! The time investment is worth it. Think about how much time you take before running an experiment...it's the same thing, and people want to think that it isn't.

!!wiki/Euler
Leonhard Euler (/ˈɔɪlər/ OY-lər; Swiss Standard German: [ˈɔɪlər]; German Standard German: [ˈɔʏlɐ]; 15 April 1707 – 18 September 1783) was a Swiss mathematician, physicist, astronomer, logician and engineer who made important and influential discoveries in many branches of mathematics like infinitesimal calculus and graph theory while also making pioneering contributions to several branches such as topology and analytic number theory. He also introduced much of the modern mathematical terminology and notation, particularly for mathematical analysis, such as the notion of a mathematical function...

Wikipedia says you're dead too.
Long dead.
@M.A.R., how would you define slaked lime?
@LeonhardEuler Easily
@M.A.R., ??
You're asking how I can define slaked lime. I can define slaked lime easily
BRB
@M.A.R., I am asking the definition
08:24
@LeonhardEuler It's the traditional name of calcium hydroxide
I know you were asking the definition BTW. I was just kidding
!!wiki/Slaked Lime
Calcium hydroxide, traditionally called slaked lime, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Ca(OH)2. It is a colorless crystal or white powder and is obtained when calcium oxide (called lime or quicklime) is mixed, or "slaked" with water. It has many names including hydrated lime, caustic lime, builders' lime, slack lime, cal, or pickling lime. Calcium hydroxide is used in many applications, including food preparation. Limewater is the common name for a saturated solution of calcium hydroxide. == Properties == Calcium hydroxide is relatively insoluble in water, with a solubility product...
Ta da
@M.A.R., what would be the more standard definition?
@LeonhardEuler What do you mean?
You mean like a Goldbook definition or something?
@M.A.R., is that only the traditional name for calcium hydroxide.or some other definition is there?
08:30
@LeonhardEuler "Slaked lime" doesn't stand for anything else. Why should it?
If I understood you correctly though, there's also "hydrated lime".
Which is calcium hydroxide.
@M.A.R., what is lime water?
!!wiki/Limewater
Limewater is the common name for a diluted solution of calcium hydroxide. Calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2, is sparsely soluble in water (1.5 g/L at 25 °C). Pure limewater is clear and colorless, with a slight earthy smell and an alkaline bitter taste of calcium hydroxide. The term lime refers to the alkaline mineral, and is unrelated to the acidic fruit. Limewater is prepared by stirring calcium hydroxide in pure water and filtering off the excess undissolved Ca(OH)2. When excess calcium hydroxide is added to limewater, a suspension of calcium hydroxide particles results, giving it a milky aspect, in...
What is the molecular formula for lime [email protected].
Ca(OH)2.some water molecules
It's different from the normal calcium hydroxide because calcium and hydroxide ions are solvated.
It's not a lattice of calcium and hydroxide ions.
!!wiki/solvation
08:35
Solvation, also sometimes called dissolution, is the process of attraction and association of molecules of a solvent with molecules or ions of a solute. As the molecules or ions dissolve in a solvent they spread out and become surrounded by solvent molecules, forming a solvate complex. Solvation is the process of surrounding solute with solvent. It involves evening out a concentration gradient and evenly distributing the solute within the solvent. == Distinction between solvation, dissolution and solubility == By an IUPAC definition, solvation is an interaction of a solute with the solvent, which...
@M.A.R., what is the working principle of fire extinguisher?
@LeonhardEuler Are you in the middle of an exam?
@M.A.R., No . Why?
@LeonhardEuler You realize typing the same questions into Google will give you answers?
@M.A.R., I didn't find the principle for fire extinguisher

Neat. But since even muted SE chat sends out notifications that Firefox recognizes, and Firefox properly sends notifications to Notification Center I get the little box with a "Pop" sound since that's what I changed my alert to.

Oh, that's Firefox Nightly, that's why the icon is different.
Regular Firefox would look the same but with the normal icon/logo.
I might switch it to Alerts so it stays on the screen until I dismiss it.

I sent a question to support to make the contrast better when a question of someone has one of our favourite tags. Because in MSE the contrast is obvious but here it is almost non existing.
@Hexacoordinate-C Do you mean the yellow background?

@Hexacoordinate-C We should make the question blink and fly all over the page

Is there a page with every possibilities ? I need to improve that. I'm here for more than a year and I have a lack of knowledge about that

It can also format code on the main site
And can you explain me how to share a link and give it another mane
If you have large chunks of code, you can format them by entering a few spaces in the beginning and using shift+enter to create a new line.
@Hexacoordinate-C [this is the alt text of the link](http://the link is here)
Thank you ! :)
You got it!
It also works that way on the main site
Sometime I wanted to do it in comment but I didn't remember how so I didn't haha

HerbalResearcherBasically remove oxygen, it does not matter if it's less pure with some minerals, but would be preferable to have pure carbon 90 % + .

That.

I can also make linear combinaisons :P
*try*
Oh this one doesn't work
@Hexacoordinate-C The special font in this message is called fixed font. Fixed font is for code, and it doesn't render because code shouldn't render
I see
I remember when I put some BBcode in PHP for a website project i'm doing. I use [code][/code] instead of `
@Hexacoordinate-C Backticks is the markdown way. It doesn't need to be the only way
I have the habit of BBcode in other forums

On SO, the backticks are for inline code, and <pre> and <code> for large bits of code

finally, first gold badge
and the second will come in 12 days
21:48
I forgot to connect me one day before to get the gold badge for 100d connections
So I do it again I hope this time I won't forget lol
I was pretty pissed when I forgot with maybe 4 days to go
one thing that threw me off was the site keeps track in UTC, which I didn't know about
so I set a reminder on my phone to go off daily that just says "Visit Chemistry.SE"
Ahah our lifes depend on that website during 100 days
I know, it's even worse when you get busy and don't have lots of time
I am also convinced that the badge for meta is impossible to get because it is always resetting for me every few days even though I would go there as well
but I have more important things to do than that
against better judgement I have started writing an answer to one of the most popular unanswered computational chemistry questions on the site, unsure how long it will take
