Wow … I click on a Mi Yodeya HNQ only to find out that it is a joke question. I am positively amused =D
I shall use that as an indicator to go to bed o/

A: What is charge shift bonding?

hBy2PyGeoff has summarized well the mathematical, VB wavefunction-based description of charge-shift bonding. This answer aims to provide further exposition, from the perspective of the distribution of the electron density and of the electron localization in charge-shift bonded as compared to tradition...

let's see then....
@Martin-マーチン Look forward to your thoughts. For now, to bed with me -- stayed up waay to late finishing this thing....
@hBy2Py I know the feeling... Nighty, night, don't let the Trumpbugs bite...

Anyone else experiencing lags with stack exchange images?
08:07
@airhuff Thanks for catching that mistake
and letting me know
That's what I get for using Google as my calculator 😵
08:25
@ringo , no problem. Yea, I think I'd dump the Google calculator ;)

@Hexacoordinate-C I have been having some issues with i.stack.imgur.com as well.
Usually, they just do not appear.
thank god it's not my network...
It might be your network and mine ;)

Q: Intermittent Failed to upload image; imgur is rejecting the request

reneJust now when trying to upload an image with the image uploader I'm greeted intermittently with the following error: Failed to upload image; imgur is rejecting the request That error comes from the POST on http://meta.stackexchange.com/upload/image?https=true I initially was on an non-encr...

I guess that settles that there are more...
11:31
@orthocresol Yes, this is a known issue and the devs are investigating it. CC @Mart
I don't have any problems though
Now things are starting to break for me as well

I wish to exchange one of the pictures deposited yesterday -- how to proceed? Likely it is something only the moderators may do, upon request ...
@Martin-マーチン It could be related to the DoS attack against SE, maybe.

@Buttonwood Just upload a new one. I'm pretty sure imgur does a periodic garbage collect, and any images that haven't been downloaded for some particular amount of time get deleted.
(As long as you're talking about the imgur through Stack Exchange)
@hBy2Py Yes, I was using the direct upload provided here on SE, right on the right hand side of the chat-box.
Thank you for "letting SE forget", this time.
@Hexacoordinate-C I just uploaded cropped versions of the chiral sulfoxides you showed interest yesterday and a short bibliographic section from the very page mentioned, too.
While taking a closer view on imgur, I just stumbled on this entry -- not chemistry related, still "aha" about free press, as seen by Bush jr. ... imgur.com/gallery/kL7XI

@Buttonwood Ahh, these are images in chat. Yeah, maybe a mod could swap an image out, not sure. Definitely a mod could delete the old message with the image, though that might not really work for what you're trying to do.
12:50
@Buttonwood there is nothing mods can do here. Once it's on the stack imgur servers, it's there. Probably for "eternity". Not sure they are running a clean-up thing that removes unref'd imgs... sorry on the run here... see yáll laterz

Hmph. People answering homework dumps zero-effort homework questions is bad enough, but even upvoting the crap? D=
@hBy2Py Afaik, they don’t, actually. But in any case SE has made sure to have ample storage space so it seems like there is no problem involved.
Gosh I wish I had a diamond hammer for that gold question xD
@Jan Looks like you're right:
Unlike imgur.com ordinary links, which indeed expire after a while without any views, SE got a dedicated premium account on imgur ensuring the images will never expire, even with zero views. — Shadow Wizard Jul 10 '16 at 7:48
I wonder how many zero-hit images are lying around in the Stack imgur space.

I guess if it bothers them, they’ll do something about it.
$62^5 = 916\,132\,832$ available image IDs
$\sim 180$ SE sites
Jan
Jan
Should get there soon, shouldn’t we? :D
So on average $5\,089\,626$ IDs per site
Only some fraction probably use images... very few on SO or SF... more on SU...
Maybe the space is big enough for several years of accumulation, after all.

Done. Now, in return, you can read my most recent answer and tell me what you think:

I would write $\ce{F^-\bond{...}F^+}$ and vice-versa rather than $\ce{F^--F^+}$ but maybe that's just personal preference?
@orthocresol I wear 14 carat gold every day →
@Jan Ah, change from a bond line to \cdots, say?
Jan

@hBy2Py Yes.
That would make sense -- might even be how Shaik & Hiberty wrote it in their papers... will have to check.

Because many people interpret a solid line as a two-electron-two-centre bond, you know? ;)
Oh, no, absolutely makes sense.

Q: How much of Stack's imgur image-ID space has been consumed?

hBy2PyImages posted to Stack's imgur space have the following URL structure: https://i.sstatic.net/Apnr6.png This implies to me that images stored there have a five-character ID, with at least 62 possible characters at each position in the ID. So, that gives around a billion unique IDs. I'v...

Q: Penta-valent ion in water?

AlessiaI would like to have a solution with a pentavalent positive ion. I need something that, preferably in water: XY ---> X5+ + Y5-. What can XY be?

Simple, you just need $\ce{AlN -> N^5+ + Al^5-}$...
Incidentally, for the Spanish post, Google Translate gives a surprisingly good translation:
> As in all chromatography there is a stationary phase and a mobile phase.

In thin layer chromatography, we can find two types, the normal whose stationary phase is polar (example: silica) and its mobile phase has less polarity, or reverse TLC, where its stationary phase is non-polar and its mobile phase is polar. In normal TLC the lower polarity of the mobile phase depends on the solvents that are used to run the samples from the seed point. This serves, since the sample must have a good resolution, that is to say separation of the components, and that they are not retained in the point o

@orthocresol Google Translate has gotten surprisingly good … the other day I witnessed a translation English–Japanese–Korean–English or something turning out legible and comprehensible.
Also, it’s terrible if you’re looking for a structural motif as is present in the profens (ibuprofen and related) if you want to find non-profen examples D= */rant*
I’m also thinking if I should just move my resonance answer across to the other post … but … meh … o.o'
> Continued Elsevier Access in Support of German Science
> At Elsevier serving research is our paramount goal. We have therefore chosen to continue providing access to Elsevier journals for dozens of German institutions, including your own, which cancelled their individual subscriptions at the end of 2016. They did so anticipating that a new Germany-wide license agreement would be in place by January this year, which we regret so far has not been achievable.
> We strongly believe that access to high-quality research is important for German science. The continuing access will be in place while good faith discussions about a nation-wide contract carry-on. This reflects our support for German research and our expectation that an agreement can be reached.
Wow … =O
