user116211
@TIPS Are you talking about MSE ;D
user116211
They hardly close any HW question and there is always an implied competition as to who is gonna be the first to answer that; as a result there are so many 25k users you can't even count. I cherish their chat room rather than the site.... phew

Q: Sodium permanganate from manganese dioxide and sodium hypochlorite

Anonymous ShadowThis page states that sodium permanganate can be formed by the reaction of manganese dioxide with sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide: $$\ce{2 MnO2 + 3 NaClO + 2 NaOH -> 2 NaMnO4 + 3 NaCl + H2O}$$ I assume sodium carbonate ($\ce{Na2CO3}$) will also function in this reaction as a substitute...

No wonder journalists do it all the time.

Q: Should I ask short questions in chat or on main site?

Linear ChristmasRecently, I had a question regarding the systematic name of $\ce{FeI2*2FeI3}{^{[\text{*}]}}$. Because the inquiry would be simple and short, and due to the possibility of sawed–off replies, I chose to seek answers in chat instead of the main site. This had numerous advantages. direct back and ...

Anyone knows the derivation or link to $$K_b=RT^2/l_f$$ $l_f$ is latent heat of fusion per gram and $K_b$ is ebullioscopic constant

It's just Vant Hoff's law applied to ebullition

Welcome to The Periodic Table @Linear! Here are our chat guidelines and it's recommended that you read them. If you want to turn Mathjax on, follow the instructions in this answer. Happy chatting!
user116211
Hi, @Linear; saw your meta post; ask anything here freely ;)
Already trying to come up with the clearest way to ask :p
you hang in there
In coordination chemistry, a book discusses the history of complex compounds. Specifically, it says how ammoniates were assumed to be analogous to hydrates. Commenting on the similarity, it states, 'This analogy is essentially correct for in hydrates, except for interstitial and anion water, the water is coordinated to the central metal ion.'
What the hell is anion water? :D
Also, thanks for the warm welcome
water with anions in it ? purolite.com/Customized/Uploads/…
That's how I understand it in this pdf
I'm not sure what sense it would make in your sentence though :(
15:31
(Y)
The first thing I thought of were anion-exchange systems as well
But I couldn't make sense of it either
You can always ask on main :-)
Hahah
Maybe I will ;)
I think I'll wait for an hour or two
I have (a little) faith in The Periodic Table
I'll eat your faith
Not sure if that's good or not
guess we'll wait and see

user116211
@LinearChristmas They will deliver; that's sure; the point is they are delaying ;\
Well, that's got to be agitating
Which books, if I may ask?
user116211
15:47
@LinearChristmas Actually four books.... the book that came is on measure theory; and other is on ZF - Axiomatic Set theory and another is Bourbaki and .... other is Flash ;)
@MAFIA36790 I don't think so. Because of Bookexit.
user116211

Anyone knows a website that prints books from pdfs and ships them at low prices ? I only find extremely expensive ones ._.
user116211
Well, I'm depressed.
user116211
@Hippalectryon Well, that's what Int. Edition meant to be.
@Hippalectryon Try some local printing office
16:00
@MAFIA36790 Fickle. You told us you're "back" a while ago. Now you're depressed?
@Hippalectryon Nothing online I know of.
I always print stuff locally.
"Locally" meaning, either with our own printer or making one of the people at school to do it for free for me.
Well alright I'll give it a try. Never done it before. I'm trying to get a printed edition of fan made translations of a chinese book
@TIPS That's a fine arrangement, isn't it
@TIPS Your school has the equipment to print books O_o
As it make a cover and all
@LinearChristmas Only for a certain side of the argument.
@Hippalectryon I never judge things with their cover.

@Hippalectryon Is it in Amazon?
Are you telling me you haven't downloaded music from the internet?
No lying.
user116211
@TIPS hmm.
@MAFIA36790 The original in chinese ? yes. The fan-made translation isn't, it's just on a website.
user116211
16:05
@Hippalectryon contact him; by email? Elaborate your predicament to him.
Honestly though, with Paypal and similar companies' shit decision not to support transactions from Iran, this is what they get. It's not like I won't pay, it's that I can't.
@MAFIA36790 I don't speak chinese :(
@TIPS Paypal is the worst :( I avoid them at all costs unless I really have to use it
user116211
@Hippalectryon C'mon you have Google Translate ;\\
@Hippalectryon Then speak Chinese. Problem solved.
@TIPS ._. want me to dissolve you in some HF ?
16:06
@MAFIA36790 Hahahaha
That's the best unintentional joke in the world.
@Hippalectryon Cozy. I'd love to
user116211
@TIPS facepalm
I disagree with this for two reasons. First, Google translate in most language is too crappy to work with fast conversations in chat. Mix in some dialectal differences, different proverbs and idioms, and sarcasm and the lack of visible tone and intonation, and you get nothing better than confusion. Second, such feature, even used in its best potential, and providing that GT works perfectly, would still disrupt the normal chat conversations. I think in the end you either have to speak English, or talk with someone who knows the same language as you. — TIPS 17 hours ago
user116211
@hippa wanna use Bitcoins ;P
user116211
@TIPS You predicted this conversation would lead to Google Translate?
@MAF Also Chinese even has some dialects that vary so much, some linguists claim they're separate languages. And Chinese is an East Asian language, which means Chinese documents would end up like that Thai text in the screenshot above.
user116211
16:08
Presenting TIPS the Future-Baba from the mystic Arab lands.
I'm not an Arab.
My region confuses.
:o apparently the first three volumes are translated
In fact, I would officially count as a semi-Turk semi-Iranian semi-Russian triisopropylsilyl
user116211
@TIPS Well, I mean Iran ;/ but
user116211
hmmm...
16:10
The Russian part being less than others.
@MAFIA36790 Iran looks like the insides of a mincer. We have Arabs, Kurds, Turks, Persians, Afghans and people in between here.
user116211
@hippa: Unless the book is of old soviet Union, if the book is important and has a good value; then it would be of course translated to other languages.\
@MAFIA36790 It's a light novel :( not very well known at all
user116211
WTF ;(
It got turned into an anime a season or two ago so its translation got taken up officially but it takes a long time
user116211
I was all the way thinking it's a classified mathematical work by some secret Chinese scientist T__T
16:13
10 volumes are out so far in chinese, all fan-translated, versus between 1 and 3 officially translated
Eh, stories are one of those things whose famous and nonfamous iterations don't have much quality difference.
It's gonna be a Loong time before they are all available
In fact, I would rather watch a cheesy Disney cartoon from 1950s rather than read Twilight.
user116211
Hey @Loong; good evening ( ok you can fix the greeting with respect to your time zone ;P)
user116211
I've so far read no story books ;\
16:14
Good afternoon @Loong sensei. They told me saying hullo is polite.
@TIPS Then again, what wouldn't you do to not read Twilight ? :P
Huh
hi
low
@Hippalectryon Aha, "read", you mean. I wouldn't eat pizza for two months.
Actually, I'm on a streak. I haven't eaten pizza in 10 months or so.
user116211
@TIPS Jay.... I ate it in last Sept.
user116211
16:16
I'm good on my coffee and instant noodles ;)
Pizza isn't something you'd become an addict of, unless it's the cause of your obesity.
Ice cream, on the other hand.
user116211
and of course, delicious Indian dishes ;))
All I know about Indian food is .
user116211
@TIPS: Does Iran has its own indigenous cuisines?
I dunno about the indigenous part.
I mean, I'm not really into food, so I dunno which food is international and which is our owns.
Except obvious cases, like spaghetti.
user116211
16:23
Well, many non-veg Mughal cuisines are actually derived from Turks' culture.
user116211
@TIPS spaghetti is indigenous? Well, i like it too.
Spaghetti is of course not our food.
But Tabriz is Iran's best in foodstuff.
user116211
yeh; yeh; but one of my favourites;)
And we have lotsa different dishes, mostly based on rice in the modern era.
And lotsa meat too.
user116211
@TIPS rice is the main part of our meal ;)
16:25
Special food or not, I'm pretty sure Tabriz's food won't leave any tourist unhappy.
user116211

@MAFIA36790 Since the dawn of humanity, Iran and India had many things in common.
