Q: Why are certain questions left unanswered?

QuarkI've observed this since I've been on Chemistry SE and I've realize that even though some questions are really good but still they are not answered. People on Chemistry SE mark them "related" but sometimes the question that is being asked has no relation to the "related" question and nobody answe...

Arghhh.... I was just trying to make a new add for meta, well actually I did... but it's impossible to fit in the size requirements...

Q: Community ads filesize "cannot exceed 40KB": Difficult with new bigger ads + High DPI (retina)

Nicolas RaoulThe filesize limit used to be 150 KB, now for some reason it is only 40 KB. To make the problem worse: Ads are now bigger (300x250 instead of 220x250, 36% more pixels) High DPI (aka retina) means 4 times more pixels As a result, even very simple ads miss the 40 KB criteria. Given that some s...

@Loong 'back' xD
I came to answer a question which was answered in our weekly seminar this week xD
@Jan The one about dichloromethane?
Jan
Jan
@Loong Now how did you guess? ;)
ok, I'm just reading it.
I think, there are more reasons why dichloromethane is a standard solvent for many reactions, but that was not the actual question.
Jan
Jan
Yeah, I sort of remembered the question incorrectly. I thought it asked about a dualism to methanol, but it was more like 'why out of all random solvents should I use DCM?' ^^'

A: Community ads filesize "cannot exceed 40KB": Difficult with new bigger ads + High DPI (retina)

Grace NoteWe're going to bump the filesize limit back up to 150KB. Why did we change it in the first place? Back in August last year, I was informed that paid ads on the sites in the network had a limit of only 40KB. That, and also that I forgot to include a bit about 1px borders around white images on......

Let's flip a table.

btw. I have checked the filesize of the chem.se background... that's already more than 60kb O.o
@Martin-マーチン Nevertheless, I optimized two of the current image files in the meta thread.
I have seen your edit and I was looking for a mistake, like a typo... then i just saw the edit statement
lol :D
+1 for Edit Summaries ;-)
I really tried to compress the original meta image with a bunch of methods... when I used the substitute image, I was just not bothering with compression any more ;)
I saw >40 and went for it
@Loong That makes me very happy :D
@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. I appreciate that.
@Martin-マーチン I appreciate you appreciate that.
18:12
@Martin-マーチン The original meta image has 7045 colours. That is obviously too much for my simple PNG8 trick.
@Loong I cut the colours to 256 and gif and it was still too big and looked .... well ... there is no nice word...
I tried dithering to get it below 40 KB. But that doesn't look nice.

@Martin-マーチン Oh, so god is female for you?
↑ This one has 38.29 KB
For that statement I just chose her to be female ;)
@Loong that does not look nearly as bad as it could ;)
actually, that looks quite alright... my tries were not as successful
anyway, with the new limit of 150 KB, we can do better
I got a jpg that was about 40, which looked quite good. Don't know why they do not allow that?
Yeah we can do better, but I started to kind of like the substitute ad :D
Okidoki... I have to check on my pillow... see y'all later :D
148.03 KB
The dithering in the Erlenmeyer flask looks like gas bubbles.

I might have some for you @Jan, I'm starting to continue starting to continue starting my studies on chirality and stuff.

Q: Why do we have an alkyl shift rather than epoxidation in a pinacol reaction?

hannaWhy do we have an alkyl shift rather than epoxidation in a pinacol reaction? I don't understand why the hydroxyl group doesn't attack the positive charge.

@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. Beware! I'll transform it into my total synthesis target molecule!
Wait a minute; that chemical is familiar.
Oh, I remember a drug named Spironolactone.
@Jan did you get to mess with that?

There you go, ready for copying ;)
Mess with what? Spironolactone? No.
@Jan I'll put it in an ad.
