@Dissenter Of course Pitt accepts transfer students
I have a few things to do (i.e., get my kids to bed)
But it seems like you might do better at another school.

@Dissenter One question came to my mind now. Do you know if your school's chemistry department is ACS-certified?
We all make mistakes in lecture, but...
04:27
@GeoffHutchison if you want to learn more about chemistry at my school ..
Yes we are ACS certieid
We just have some people who make peculiar oversimplifications
At least I hope the CO2 = IR inactive thing is a major oversimplification
Because the alternative is only worse

Also I'd much rather communicate via email because this room is visible to everyone on the 'net ... if you have an email address that you can direct me to that would be great.

Hi guys, would a question about free/open source electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) for use in synthetic chemistry fit the theme of the site, or would it be better suited to somewhere more like Academia.SE?
@Sam I think Academa.SE will label it as 'off-topic' to be honest.
@Sam We have a 'software' tag here. I think you'd be fine posting in Chem:SE

Cheers, in that case, I'll write something up "all neat loike" later :)

Calculate the pH of the acid rain in 1x10^5 of H2O
How would I do this?
I know it's -log (x) but I don't know what x is
@DemCodeLines Typically to compute a pH you need to know the concentration of H3O+ ions (or H+, depending on how its worded) in solution. Once you do that, you can plug it into -log(x).
