Today is the 138th anniversary of the first successful telephone call by Alexander Graham Bell.
and also Osama Bin Laden's birthday. :(
09:52
And it's the day of Morgestraich
10:11
also the 10th of March
Yesterday was the anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's orbit around the Earth
while on the subject, today is also 1 day and 1 month short of 96th anniversary of my intellectual hero.
Who would that be?
Richard. P. Feynamn
*Feynman
Haha that was the first person I googled!
But he was born in May!
Feynman is my hero too
10:25
I know. 1 Month is a typo. it's 2 months.
And great choice of heroes.!
He was not without faults, but he was truly remarkable person
And a great Teacher.
Have you read his biography?
"Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!": Adventures of a Curious Character is an edited collection of reminiscences by the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. The book, released in 1985, covers a variety of instances in Feynman's life. Some are lighthearted in tone, such as his fascination with safe-cracking, studying various languages, participating with groups of people who share different interests (such as biology or philosophy), and ventures into art and samba music. Others cover more serious material, including his work on the Manhattan Project (during which his first wife...

And just bought its "sequel"
It's a very amusing and interesting book
Ah yes, I've read that too
The content of the second book is a bit different
Lots of focus on the Challenger disaster and investigation
I know. But if it is Feynamn, it is interesting
Feynman's lectures on physics, according to me, is one of the most original pieces of work I have read on the subject (at an elementary level.
I've always meant to read that collection, but I discovered it quite late and had little time to dig in
Only read a few excerpts here and there
Definitely worth a read. The book teaches you what originality coupled with brilliance tastes like!
@SatwikPasani "don't call me shirley" - cookies for the reference
my intellectual hero - Marie Curie
10:43
Great. I actually did a mini-biography (5 page) on her as a part of my 9th grade physics project "Great Physicists". I had not met Mr. Feynamn yet!
Marie Curie is pretty awesome
she also smashed the 'glass ceiling' allowing science to advance even faster
And @Amaterasu "dont call me shirley"="Airplane!" (1980)?
@SatwikPasani cookies!!
Well.... IMDB and Google earned those!
10:46
one of my fav films
it's on my to-watch list. Only thing that does not let that list shrink is the persistent lack of time.
you won't be disappointed with that movie
Good. You like classics?
i enjoy reading about the lives of the great scientists
So do I. And I enjoy pretending their lives and thoughts match mine!
10:52
@SatwikPasani indeed!
I also admire Tesla. He was truly an Unsung Hero
absolutely!
imagine what it would be like to hang out with these scientists
Me getting to meet any of these scientists is like an archaeologist getting to live in Indus Valley Civilisation, a palaeontology getting to ride a T-Rex or Sheldon getting to work with Stephen hawking!
i would love to be in a coffee shop with rutherford, einstein, bohr, tesla....
11:14
@Amaterasu And Galileo, Edison, Darwin, Maxwell...
As a scientist myself, reading about the lives of the great scientists and mathematicians inspire me beyond words
@SatwikPasani hell yeah!... Copernicus, Volta, Ampere...
What inspires me the most is that great scientists were often great humans. Pauling won a nobel prize in chemistry and peace. Epic!
indeed - that is why I admire these people
the story of Marie and Pierre Curie is touching
@Amaterasu One day your name might be added to the list. Becoming a scientist is one step closer!!
It sure is. Worth a read,
@SatwikPasani not sure about that - lol
anyways, i got to go - bed time here
y'all take care!
11:24
Sure. Nice talking. It's afternoon here
sleep tight.

@LordStryker gabbagabba-who?
lol
@Amaterasu Ever play Descent? :P
nah...lol... solitaire is the extent of my gaming
"gabbagabbahey" - sexy voice says "cheater"
@Amaterasu You need to find someone to play games with you. You can't play Solitaire with 2 ppl
@LordStryker round these parts, solitaire turns into a communal contact sport
19:55
lol
Australia, you're crazy
absolutely
brb
@Amaterasu Stay safe!!!!! Check your six!
\o @LordStryker!
had to shower, ready for work
20:10
Allright, @Amaterasu. Go teach 'em some! :D
i am running early at the moment
And I found time to research some for an answer :)
oooh nice!

I'm not done yet writing up the answer
The question is here.

Have fun! :)
\o @tschoppi
Hey
How are you?
20:56
phew... finally done answering
