Has anyone here seen this notation?
sodium carbonate-10-water
!!img/sodium carbonate decahydrate

sodium carbonate-10-dhmo?

@Chemobot ???
@pH13-YetanotherPhilipp lol

Some homework questions are arguably too broad.
I don't like those that, for example, have multiple choices and require a different line of thought to rule out different choices.
Sorry, it was just my random thought while reading Loong's questionnaire answers.
> Tragically, apart form the homework aspect, homework questions would be a perfect fit for the format of the site: They are on topic, express a clear question, have a limited scope, include a working example, include all the relevant data, can be answered in a few paragraphs, and could be interesting for other readers.
I agree that a lot of homework questions can be polished
I wanted to talk about homework on meta a while ago, but elections came along, so I guess we can wait.

Oh, another homework discussion

5:15 PM
Ignore me T.T

@orthocresol He posted his?
I should reload more often

I just wanted to rant without posting a comment. It would just detract from the issue at hand.
@Rubisco 41 minutes ago. You're slow

@orthocresol Ahem, how am I supposed to work when there's no light out there?

@orthocresol Yeah, I was mainly thinking about the typical stoichiometry, titration, pH, or thermodynamics homework.

This isn't a 24/7 business

5:17 PM
@Rubisco I just want to take that comment from @orthocresol and reformat it for you: YOU ARE SLOW

@Loong Lots of orgchem stuff are actually pretty decent if someone polishes it up and makes it look less homework-ish.
I wouldn't mind answering those and I think sometimes I have.

@pH13-YetanotherPhilipp I AM SLOW but I may show that candidate pH13's brother, Bill Clinton, had an affair with someone I don't care about.

@pH13-YetanotherPhilipp and you failed the "please provide a link to it after this blurb here" test ;-)

BWAHHA
So technically Loong is second.
BWAHHAHAHAHA
Now let's find a way to bash Loong

:-(

5:19 PM
@Loong I saw it after you put us both on the list O:-)
@Rubisco good luck
he is like teflon

Yah there's that

@pH13-YetanotherPhilipp difficult to work with? sensitive to radiation?

Aha. Found one
I heard IUPAC sucks.

> Tragically, apart form the homework aspect,
FORM??!!?!?!

@Loong No, sprayed onto metal things

5:27 PM
And this guy is a mod on a language Q&A site.

AHA

Can you even beat that?

I appoint Ortho as my supporter

> For successful participation, however, users essentially only need to understand the topic of the site and the Q&A format, which is focussed on questions and answers with limited comments and edits.
I have a personal grudge against anybody who uses a double s in focussed or focussing.
Oh well, guess this guy's lost my vote.
(Jokes aside - It's actually incredibly common in the UK for goodness knows what reason. I was always taught that it's a single s and I was surprised to learn that double s was acceptable.)

Vote for MAR! He haz no tyops in any of his posst

5:31 PM
@Rubisco who is this MAR?

@pH13-YetanotherPhilipp The hero of the people of chem.SE
I envy him

He died for our sins

@orthocresol I guess

Q: How can we make the voter "call to action" ads more universal?

Shog9You may not have noticed it, but there's a new set of ads running on SO (and maybe other sites) right now: I guess we got approached by some voter registration org about running these, and it seemed like a good idea... So we're running them. They appear for folks who we think are in the USA, a...

@Rubisco Make an Austrian one. ‘Use the correct glue!’
@Wildcat Happens if I recently offered a bounty so that SE ‘thinks’ my rep gain is negative. (Sometimes even hinders across sites.)
I came in here to rant about something, but I forgot about what.
@Jan Oh yes, I just remembered. Is anybody here concerned that none of the candidate are sportsmen?

@Jan no

@Jan I reject the idea.

I don't even have 100 answers haha

Jan
@Loong Why? You’re already used to double-tab? xD
@Rubisco You only need a single answer for sportsmanship (the question just needs 101 answers in total).

@Jan yeah sure that's gonna work
@Jan Weirdos attract weird bugs

6:02 PM
@Jan I guess, it's more common on technical sites such as Stack Overflow that there are multiple useful solutions for a given problem. Our homework and nomenclature questions usually have only one correct answer; therefore, there is no need for multiple answers and thus no opportunity for sportsmanship upvotes.
We only have 1.15 answers per question.

Jan
And yet we have five sportsmen.
(Also: Of course I’m just pulling everybody’s leg because of the concept behind the badges name. I believe all our mods and candidates are sportsmen at heart.)

@Jan you have no idea how wrong you are

Jan
My world is shattering D= Y,…,Y

@Jan Generally, reppy people get that badge than moddy people.

@Rubisco Jan's sport is ice hockey; so he might be right. ;-)

6:34 PM
@Loong Very scarce chance. I looked everywhere in my heart.

Q: Which electronic effects are responsible for the reduction of nucleophilicity of a hydroxy group orthogonal to an ester?

JanI am facing a similar synthetic problem as Boekman Jr. et al noted in their synthesis of Tetronolide.[1] I will quote their’s rather than disclosing my actual synthetic problem, but note that the key element — an α-hydroxy-γ-lactone is identical. The authors’ intended convergent synthesis involv...

Damnit, I only have five votes left today D=

Hi

hu r ya?

oh
I don't understand what about the Chemistry Nobel prize is about

@9-BBN It's about chemistry

7:24 PM
Where can I find an article which explain what it is how the did etc ?

Thank you

Jan
Uhh, molecular machines! =D

@Loong This is the beginning of a revolution indeed

7:36 PM
Not time to read it now 'cause I'm working on Pd Coupling reactions ^^

8:21 PM
I giggled about quantum numbers
It confirms French people are rude :P
How are you Wildcat?

8:35 PM
@9-BBN Fine. :)
@9-BBN why? :O

Because Frenchies are rude so I try to do the contrary and be a better man ^^
I'm trying*

@9-BBN all people are rude
animals are better :)

`(.•.)´

To be rude is typical from France I guess :P
We are cold people ^^

Jan
What about molecules?

8:44 PM
What "what" ?

Jan
Are they as rude as people or as friendly as animals?

At least both at the same time because of their size
Tandem reaction now hehe
But I would not be able able to answer Jan

A: In practice, do polar molecules actually align in an electric field?

Mike JacksonYes, polar molecules can align with a strong field. If the field is strong enough to overpower the local effects and the molecules are mobile. There is a devise called an ELectret, which is roughly the electrostatic equivalent of a permanent magnet. An Electret can be formed using a polar polyme...

Plugging a random central sentence doesn’t give a direct Google hit. But some things are similar. I’m not good enough to judge.
