7:00 PM
That just happened to be in yesterday's lecture :D

7:14 PM
@Loong no the first step to convert ( sorry for the typo) the pre-catalyst to the good one.

@9-BBN ok, I see. Then ortho's aspect is right for you.

Yep but I don't know what "L" is in the first step of what @orthocresol shown

@9-BBN a ligand

L = ligand. $\ce{L_{n}}$ = $n$ ligands

But which one ?

7:17 PM
Doesn't matter to organic chemists. :D

You begin with two X you remove one add the Et3N and a L appears ^^

Yeah, it's not entirely correct. I just screenshotted that because it was right out of my lecture notes. But you can basically ignore everything that isn't the amine or the hydrogen or the metal.

@9-BBN maybe PPh3

If there is not for the reaction ... :P

sigmaaldrich.com/chemistry/… Phosphines with interesting names.

7:22 PM
This election closes soon: physics.stackexchange.com/election/3

@Loong I have 101 rep only heh

For the first one
I had troubles with that today because I learnt to use only Pd(0).

If I'm not wrong, Pd(II) is easier to keep.

Then my teacher told me Et3N do that be he didn't tell me how

7:28 PM
@orthocresol heh, when the content of your flask gets black, you know what has happend to your Pd(0) ;-)

@Loong Indeed. I had that happen the first time I did a Suzuki. :D

And what did you do then ?
What's the problem? You have Pd on the glass impossible to remove?

Pd got oxidised.
So, your catalyst (which needs to be Pd(0)) is rendered inactive.

Jan
HNO3 conc redissolves the Pd(0) that turned black on the outside of your flask ;)
(no idea if this is relevant to the discussion)

It is
:p

7:31 PM
Conc HNO3 ಠ_ಠ

And what about H2SO4 with H2O2 ?

ಠ_ಠ Piranha solution ಠ_ಠ

I can oxydize C in CO2 lol
oxydise*
I should try to add K2MnO4 to that too see if that is more oxydising or not
And F2
And so one
And
BOOOOM

$\Large \text{ಠ_ಠ}$
2

Also try do dry NH4NO3 :P

7:40 PM
I'm sticking to my 0.1 M NaOH + 0.1 M HCl titration lab, thank you.

Don't forget if you need to make a dilution of you HCl everytime the water in the acid in on shot sure

Jan
@9-BBN I wanna see you add water to HCl ;)

It was difficult to have something :P

Jan
@Loong Spoilsport ~.~
(I mean, my teacher in chemistry class at school added H2SO4 to NaCl in a closed container connected to a rubber tube which ended in a funnel which she suspended just above the surface of a beaker of water … but that was technically adding HCl to water.)

7:49 PM
youtube.com/watch?v=cLpSapjKcxM I love the piranha solution :)
I think it could be better to use it to dissolve someone than use HF

@Rubisco Underestimate me! I care not.
If I see a post that should be transferred to another SE, what do I flag it as?

@Loong nice
I've never seen since yet
until
yet

@pentavalentcarbon is the question closed?

@Loong No. It is a good question IMO but off-topic.
I'm referring to this one.

Q: Fitting of interatomic potentials to a training set

shadrawsI have read several times in the literature the following: "The fittings were accomplished using a combination of the singular value decomposition method for linear parameters and the Simplex method for nonlinear parameters." What I understand from it is that the non-linear parameters are optim...

@pentavalentcarbon Mod attention.

So then for us transfer to another SE falls under the last flag.

yes, except if you want to move it to meta.chemistry
If it's off topic here, you may also vote/flag as offtopic as "Other (add a comment explaining what is wrong)" first.

Ok, I didn't know there were comment fields for the other options. That would have been a better choice.

Q: Create "gold" from lead (or other substances)

Thorsten S.I am writing a setting for a role-playing game. In it an alchemist has finally found a way to create gold from lesser metals. Like his former historical models the alchemist is so jubilant over his discovery that he seems to ignore that his "gold"...well, it really looks like gold and seems to b...

1 hour later…
9:35 PM
@pentavalentcarbon o/

9:57 PM
How much rep do you need to vote in an election?

150 I think
I couldn't even vote in the physics one...

@pentavalentcarbon Yeah

Jan
@pentavalentcarbon It says exactly that on the election page (CC@Mith) ;)

@Jan It does :)
