Are you always talking about the same professor? If so, then he clearly assembled a large pile of negligence, and I am very sorry for you. — Martin - マーチンOct 16 '14 at 2:43
@Martin if you are referring to the one who drew hexamethylbenzene and called it benzene instead, then no, this is not the same guy. — DissenterOct 16 '14 at 3:06
This is a good question. Related to it I would wonder, why it is even stable in that way. There are a couple of ways I could imagine it to decompose... @LordStryker It seems the water hydrogenhalogenide dimer system has a few more electrons, compared to diborane. I would not be too sure to find similarities. — Martin - マーチン8 hours ago

ATTEMPT:
There are two possibilities for this reaction. The $\ce{H+}$ either adds to the $\ce{OH}$ group or the exo double bond.
In the first case as $\ce{H2O}$ leaves giving us a stable allylic carbocation. The intermediate thus formed can couple with the other molecule to yield a product. But ...
@Martin You don't see a useful analogy to a dimer system containing a halogen pointed toward two hydrogen atoms (sort of like a bifurcated H-bond except in my example with a Cl)? I'm rather surprised. — LordStryker1 min ago
