I can't figure out how to change the topics that I get alerts for or how to leave the beta entirely.
@AnthonyMastrean To leave entirely, delete your profile (you should see a delete link on the left here: docs-beta.stackexchange.com/users/edit/397, but if not, go through /contact linked at the bottom of the page). To change notifications, click the little eye thingy on the tag's dashboard:
We don't have a way to turn off all notifications at once at the moment, though
The eye thingy might do it

@JonasCz Do you think +11/-1 counts as a sufficient majority here? Real question, no joke.

@JAtkin I was looking at the +8 / -3 of the question. Yes, that was probably not the right thing to look at, but my point is that I disagree with what you're proposing, as it currently stands.
I agree with Jeremy here: "I really like the idea of using a Hello World topic as a jumping-off point." (docs-beta.stackexchange.com/questions/1080/…) I think that introductory examples can be useful, in fact they can be more useful than a book or blog post, since they're easily accessible and findable, and can be updated by the community.
They're not always useful, but they can be useful, and, yes, I would probably agree with this if it was done as Makoto suggests: make it optional.
I use SO primarily for learning new things, and I will probably use docs in the same way, too. I find SO to be a lot more helpful than some book - and for me, having introductory level examples here will be helpful.
But maybe you should undelete your second question and see what others think ? @JAtkin

When will the meta here be moved? When we hit public beta or when we hit full release?
At public beta.
Public beta will be on SO, so the SO meta will be the new cool spot.
Ok, cool. So, about 1 week is still the plan? (I saw something about kevin being out, and that it might change the schedule...)
21:45
It'll be longer than 1 week. We're (hopefully) gonna have a decision on how long in the next day or two.
