@zmike I've worked with three or four who have been excellent. Two got me a job offer, one I accepted. :) Over the course of maybe 4 years now. A decent recruiter will connect you to jobs you didn't even know existed. YMMV depending on what you're after. If you're looking to join a B4 consultancy there's no point in using a recruiter. But if you're after niche firms or industry jobs that's very different.
Anyone who's pushy or taking a volume-based approach you just ignore. People who craft a custom message or reach out for a specific job are sometimes worth talking to.
Anyone who wants to meet up first and do an entire assessment to "get you in the system" is just a waste of time I've found. Those are almost placement agencies and I have no time for that nonsense. :)
