@zmike That's a great lesson in MYOB, and a woke backfire.
@Max you may want to express your condolences after you start working at the company, depending on how closely you will be working with them

Q: How to proceed in new role?

A DugganI had turned down this role last year, and stepped down from a management role. I took the time to get better in my old role and become more confident. The opportunity came around again, so this time I jumped on it. (Internal transfer) The new position is more visible and will give me more oppo...

Old Lamplighter's curmudgeonly rant of the day:

I hate the word "Fair". It is misused. The people who use it the most don't want fairness, they want things to go their way.

I once read a short story where a genie was granting one wish per customer. The protagonist tried to outsmart the genie by wishing for "exactly what he deserved". It went about as well as you can guess.

I'm personally glad that life is unfair. I'd hate to think I deserved even half of what I've been through in this life, and shudder to think that I may have deserved worse.
@Old_Lamplighter nice edit
@motosubatsu I like to try to give the newbies a fighting chance here. I tried to ask the question the user intended to ask, rather than close it unceremoniously. Don't let it out that I'm a nice guy. It will ruin my reputation

Q: REQ: Reopen How to proceed in new role?

Old_LamplighterHow to proceed in new role? This question is answerable after the edit. The user is a new user and we should cut them a little slack. Imposter syndrome is very common in the business world, esp in IT, it can be, and should be addressed.

@Old_Lamplighter I think it has less to do with MYOB and more to do with lack of communication and lack of due diligence.
When the poster reported it to the boss, he/she could have just told the OP that it's for a big client and to read the fucking employee handbook

@zmike Ah, the classic RTFM! So many problems would be resolved. I see that, but I still think that if the OP kept his eyes on his own work, he'd have saved everyone a great deal of grief
I had a good answer for the "moral" objections question, but I dropped it

@Old_Lamplighter Hey! Need some advice ... I'm starting a new job ... and there were two positions for this job ... one permanent and one temporary (6 months with the possibility to become permanent). The manager called me couple weeks ago and said I did really well and I was the first runners up, and so they offered me the 6 month position ...
(I actually wasn't expecting the permanent position in the first place because I am on a limited time work permit and permanent positions are for Canadians or Permanent Residents, which I am not yet). So I new even before applying that I was applying for the 6 month position ... but now, the fact that the manager said I was the 1st runners up is kind of bothering me ... like I came in second ...
I mean if she said I won the 6-month position I wouldn't feel this way ... because I would feel like these were two different competitions ... I am grateful, really grateful because I wanted a job in the government ... I have a foot in the door and I can later on apply for other internal jobs ... so I am happy but this feeling of second position is kinda bothering me
Will be treated with half the respect? Will my opinions and work have half the value? Will I always speak after the winner of the permanent position ... I don't know ...
@AIQ you're way, way overthinking this

@motosubatsu I think so too, I guess I needed someone to say it out loud ...
@AIQ honestly.. once you start the job and get busy with the actual "doing the job" phase instead of the "applying for jobs" phase I'd put money on you forgetting you ever even felt this way
sometimes the weirdly competitive nature of job hunting can burrow into your brain a bit deeper than is helpful :D

@AIQ I'm on the sixth year of my 10 week temp job. Just start that six months contract and impress the hell out of them. Show them that you may have placed second on the interview, but you're number 1 on the job. Do more than is expected of you, and give it your all. Treat this as a six month interview and blow their doors off. It's a win-win. Either you are hired as a perm, or you've built up an impressive record
