@Old_Lamplighter Actually now that I think about it, it was probably a month ... I just ignored their suspension ...

@AIQ Suspended for what? Is that why you are looking for a new job?

For blatantly criticizing the community moderators (suspended from SE not my job)
@zmike Let me ask you sth ...
@AIQ ha, okay.
@AIQ Shoot

I was given a verbal offer on say the 3rd ... and the manager asked if I'd like to join on the 21st or the 28th. I said either would work and didn't give a definitive answer as I didn't even see the written offer ..
they told me they'll get it to me last week and still haven't
I emailed and manager said they are working on it and I can expect it today or tomorrow ...
but then said that in the worst case my joining date will be pushed back by a day or two meaning the 22nd ...
but since they didn't give me a written offer from 3rd till today ... I didn't hand a resignation at my current job ...
how should I say this, you think?
@zmike
@AIQ How much notice do you need to give your current company?
AIQ
AIQ
@zmike ~ 2 weeks ...
My current supervisor knows, and he is happy for me, but I didn't give him a definitive date
since I don't have a written offer
Should i tell the new job manager that need 1 more week because they still did not give me written offer or should I say I need 1 more week to finish my current job obligations
20:04
@AIQ Either reason would work, but give the hiring manager only 1 reason. The first reason is better since it's the primary reason you would like to delay the start date.
AIQ
AIQ
@zmike Yeah, but I don't want to sound ungrateful or like i am blaming them
@AIQ They've already verbally offered you the role; postponing 1 week is a small ask.

I am hesitant to resign from my current job without knowing that things are official at XYZ
"Would we be able to postpone my start date? I waiting on the written letter of offer before submitting my 2-week notice."
Maybe somebody else has a better way of wording it?

@zmike Thanks for the help ...
