It never ceases to amaze me, which answers blow up. The ones I think are really good, never take off, and the ones that I don't think will go far, blow up.
Well, didn't think I'd be here again so soon but signed a contract for a new job. 18% gross raise so not too shabby. And should be much more varied and engaging so pretty pleased. ;)
It's a nice enough jump but on the other hand I picked my current employer on the basis of a lot of promises they didn't make good on. I had an offer last year that was 10% higher than what I went with in the end.
Oh well, at least I got to learn quite a bit technically in that time and it's not like a job hop or two is a problem in IT these days...
@Revenant_Evil Hah, yeah, that's getting up there.
Retention is still a bit of a weak point in this sector.
Regularly switching jobs is still one of the best ways to increase overall comp. Some employers keep pace but it's honestly rare to see.
I remember my current manager complaining that "the youngsters" don't stay long (he meant 3+ years) and I can think of a few reasons why at this point. ;)
@ChristopherEstep Sorry. I always delete my comments after a few days so as not to contribute to "Our Comments Problem". See: https://workplace.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2748/our-comments-problem
Huh, turns out there is a way to check deleted/posted comment counts as a mod. You've got impressive numbers there Joe. ;) Don't know if I can actually view my own stats as a regular user though... hmm.
@zmike As Lilienthal points out, we had a rather big "to-do" about the number of comments produce in The Workplace years ago. I didn't agree that it was actually a problem, but it wasn't worth arguing about. Since then, I leave my comments for a day or two so that the individual can read them (which is all I really care about anyway), then I clean them up.
@Lilienthal Lots of questions often need clarification, IMHO. So lots of clarifying comments. And sometimes I have a reply that is not worthy of a full Answer. Additionally, I feel bad if I write too many Answers - I don't want to come across as a "rep hog". So I try to let others write Answers first.
@JoeStrazzere As you prefer, not really saying it's good or bad, just impressed by the volume and your dedication to deleting them. ;)
Think I mentioned it before but there's no real need to do this kind of clean-up. Clarifying comments and the like are perfectly appropriate. The comments we have issues with are more in the "me too" or the "you should just do X" category.
