Ooo maybe another gold badge coming my way
07:38
Excellent. Well deserved I'm sure!
Probably not
It's always the generic questions

1 hour later…
09:10
@RichardU just the very notion of having to contemplate "can I afford to have an ambulance" is just so weird
09:34
@motosubatsu I was thinking that. Imagine dying because you couldn't afford it
@Twyxz sadly that happens rather a lot in America
@motosubatsu Yeah but it's just strange to think since ours is free. What's worse is people complain about and abuse the NHS' services
Gold badge #6
@Twyxz nice one
you've also got the most fun of the Gold badges.. Populist
09:52
@motosubatsu What's that one
oh right yeah hahah
10:14
Goal is to hit 15k rep this year :P
@Twyxz it's doable - you tend to find that there's something of a snowballing effect
the more rep you have the more likely people are to take notice of your answers and vote
plus you get the tickle of rep coming in from the back catalog of answers

Q: how can I plan for 2019

Dahar YoussefI feel I have a lot of energy to do a lot of things this year I know planning is important but I don't know how? Can you help about anything ? Thanks in advance

I love this
Genius!
10:53
I resisted my initial impulse to provide a sarcastic response indicating they need to go back in time
11:05
I couldn't think of anything funny to say so I just laughed at myself instead...
Interesting question - Whats the most popular car + colour in your area @motosubatsu IT has to be a specific car that you always see in the same colour.
11:42
@Twyxz interesting one.. not sure if I can think of one off the top of my head
12:21
@motosubatsu Fiat 500 in that creamy white colour
Absolutely EVERYWHERE!
12:49
133-0 on my answer. First time ever theres no arguments or controversy in my comments
13:04
@Twyxz Oh, in America, they don't refuse treatment, you just get hit with a mammoth bill, which is then negotiated down to just an obscene one, where you get to pay over time.
@motosubatsu Yeah, I got an 800 dollar bill for them showing up to take my sugar and blood pressure.
What's sad is in the UK we have the NHS. It's abused by alcoholics and druggies. They waste time and money for people who need it. Then you have people who complain about it not being good enough and "We pay taxes for this". Well how about you pay taxes and pay for your healthcare. These people can't even afford to live nevermind healthcare and they complain about possibly the best free service we have
We have it easy but people don't see that
@Twyxz the danger there, of course, is for people who have very expensive, chronic conditions. The druggies and drunks drain the system, but it's the autistics, the people with downs syndrome, the blind, deaf, and infirm that pay the price. Same holds true here, BTW
13:19
Yeah it's just annoying people are so naive about such things
@Twyxz Maybe it's the hacker in me, but I always look for the flaws in any system.
Can someone answer my query please - why haven't I won the lottery yet?
@Twyxz because the lotteries are a scam designed to promote the illusion of riches while bilking the masses out of fortunes.
@RichardU But real people win it. Therefore I have a chance I have not yet taken
@Twyxz real people get struck by lightning as well. Your chances are far better of that than winning the lottery.
13:35
@Twyxz that was the case over my way a few years back - seemingly less so now though
Ah, y'all got FIAT fever over there. We cured ourselves of it a while back.... FIAT = Fix It Again Tony.
My brother once had a Trans-Am. Or, as we called it a "Trash-Am". He spent more time under it than in it.
@RichardU we know it as Fix It Again Tomorrow
the 500 is the only model to be really popular over here - and while it's actually a decent enough little car they were mainly bought for fashion reasons
@motosubatsu we went through that about five years ago here. Right now, the fashion accessory is the "Prius". It's the in-vogue way for our virtue-signaling wealthy to demonstrate that they care about the environment buy purchasing a car that actually causes more pollution than a standard automobile.
It's so bad with the Prius, they're being mockingly called the "Pious"
13:56
White girls with blonde hair and fluffy coats stereotypically drive fiat 500's
@RichardU yep, same here
@Twyxz or a Juke
Oooo I see White Jukes a lot too
but they come in all sorts of colours
500's come in one colour and only one colour
Ooo this could be my record upvotes on an answer
Yes, let's use lithium batteries for everything. Pay no mind that you pit-mine lithium like you do copper, and that the tailings are second only to Uranium tailings in terms of toxicity.
I wonder how many times I've rep-capped. I know I made legendary a while ago.
@RichardU I've still got 39 to go for Legendary
@motosubatsu yes, but you're not as surly as I am. Kilisi and I are in a competition as to brevity and surliness.
14:01
@RichardU what I lack in surliness I make up for in sheer crankiness
What cars are good first cars for under £1500?
Do they even exist hahahah
@Twyxz a moped
@motosubatsu I'm surly to bed and surly to rise.
@Twyxz at that point buy on condition and as "uncool" as possible
so you have a car that isn't dying?
@Twyxz condition so it isn't dying, uncool so it will be insurable
14:03
I don't even have any examples... fortunately for me my price ranges have never been that low
08 Clio would be a good shout hahah or a corsa those seem to last forever
unfortunately but true
clio maybe (although insurance will be high-ish) corsa no - they are terrible
The old 2010 ibizaws
the old round horrible shape
pretty reliable
I saw a mind reader last month.

Her doctors say she's doing much better and can actually communicate now.
cooking spec Civic or Jazz
@RichardU lol
how old is person in question?
@me?
14:09
@Twyxz yeah
20
sorry forgot to ping it
@Twyxz gender?
Fmela
My girlfriend
if that narrows everything down ahha
it does
get her to avoid cars commonly bought by people of her insurance profile
no fiat 500, noted
14:10
so avoid: Fiat 500, Corsa, C1/Aygo/107
also avoid Fiesta
The C1
is THE WORST
car I've ever seen man
Honda Jazz/Civic or Ford Fusion are worth a look
Seat Mii?
VW Up?
Obviously a bit newer and more expensive
@Twyxz The Mii is by far the prettier of the two and less common
should be cheap as chips to insure
but getting one for ~£1500 is going to be a big ask
Nah I'd push it to £2.5k
14:13
there's a grand total of one Mii for sale for <= 2.5k on AT
and it's a cat C
oh dear
Jazz it is hahaha
Skoda Fabia is worth a look
the old ones?
basically an Ibizia/Polo but with a Skoda badge on it
example pls?
ibiza polo are already like cheap ish cars so then with skoda badge its like 3rd tier choice haha
14:15
you can sneak into a new shape Fabia for that money
Buy an "old fogie" car, used
and old shape for £1500?
I'll need to cook up some insurance tests to see hahah
and being as every other 19 year old girl will go "ugh Skoda!" not many will have been crashed by 19 yr old girls.. hence cheap insurance
old shape for £1500 easy
She's honestly not bothered by what car she gets as long as it's not awfully ugly and it runs
I'd say the Skoda is a reasonably looking car
I think the Mk1 looks nicer tbh
£1500 for a mint '06
just had all the big expensive consumables done
14:17
1.4 tho
High insurance
something like that should run for a year or two before needing any real amount spending on it
@Twyxz not necessarily
it's all on the stats
higher insurance than a 1ltr
To the fabias not come 1ltr?
I thought they did
they do
1.0l had circa 50bhp - to my mind that's going to be a night mare to drive
I mean she's that person who won't go the speed limit
it'll actually struggle going up moderate hills
14:20
She's not going to need the higher bhp, just anything with decent torque
yeah I drove the Mii
had like 60bhp I think?
Wasn't fun hahahah but hey the petrol didn't move at all after 50 ish miles haha
@Twyxz that's the problem with the 1.0 - it's only got 83Nm torque
the 1.2 has only got 4hp more but 20Nm more torque
I mean she'll not be driving it unless I'm not there anyway hahaha it'll only be to like go to the shops
and build her no claims
so much, much more useable in the real world
Yeah i'll probably have a look and recommend the 1.2
if it's just for that.. I'd not bother spending 1.5k
14:21
Thanks for the help :)
spend £300 on the cheapest to insure beater you can find
the good old square micra 2000
@Twyxz they are basically indestructible
and they are actually a fricking hoot to drive
and basically free @motosubatsu
Just a bit small and ugly but hey
better than the bobble shape that replaced them (ala mine)
14:24
They were like cartoon cars
the new Micra is surprisingly good looking
it's sold now but one like this:
I really need to get round to fixing the Micra
I need a tip car back
hate using the RS5 for tip runs :(
tip runs?
oh
the tip
yeah tip runs are one of those "fun" things that come with being a Grown Up(TM) that they don't tell you about
14:40
I mean my parents have been to the tip once in like 4 or 5 years and that was to get rid of my snooker table
14:52
I have bought exactly one new car in my life, it was a Chevy Cavalier, back in 1994
the first, last, and only new car I ever had.
not a petrol head label applied to Richard :)
I had a Chevy Cavalier as a rental once
the gearbox could best be described as..indecisive
@Twyxz by that definition neither am I.. I've never bought a new car
my next youngest is one I bought at 7 years old
buying new is for fashion victims and people who don't know enough to spot a good used one
You're a wannabe
You still haven't came up and revved around
@Twyxz I do seem to recall offering to come up and detail your hot wheels toy and you declind
@motosubatsu That cavalier remained the greatest disappointment to hit the streets, right up until our next presidential elections.
15:04
@RichardU haha.. very true
I recall pulling out into a gap on the Interstate and putting my foot down
and waiting
...and waiting...
..and waiting
by the time the damn thing woke up and remembered to downshift I had a very large truck a few inches off my rear bumper (fender) and the driver looked like he might be contemplating vehicular homicide
to cap it off our gear wouldn't fit in the damn thing so it went back to the rental desk the next day
replaced it with a Jeep Liberty - that was quite a nice bit of kit as I recall
My first car, and love, was a 1967 Dodge Coronet 440 with a 318 engine.
@RichardU nice.. old school yank muscle
they look suitably ominous in black
@motosubatsu that model was used by the police.
tough car!
the coronet has a hilariously long boot (trunk) iirc?
the sort of thing you can fit a few dead bodies sets of golf clubs in
@motosubatsu yes, big enough for me, my lunch, and three friends if I wanted
When I left for college, I was able to pack all of my clothes, my refridgerator, my computer, books, lamps, milk crates... anything I needed, and still had room left
15:16
of course if we are talking late 60s muscle I do have a soft spot for the Impala
@RichardU haha..result
by contrast when my brother left for uni he, my parents and all his stuff had to fit in one of these:
@motosubatsu my brother bought a 1967 Pontiac firebird convertible and restored it before he died.
DAMN powerful car.
@RichardU best looking Firebird IMHO
Yeah, those old cars in the 1960s held more than an SUV does today.
@RichardU as much as I admit I'd quite like a 60's muscle car - a) they are absurdly expensive here and b) they simply don't fit on our roads
hell.. I couldn't even fit something like a Coronet on my drive
@motosubatsu I wouldn't hazard a trip down your roads... then again, that seems a bit hypocritical on my part, as I am in NJ, and you take your life in your hands driving on them.
@motosubatsu one thing visitors from Europe don't tend to grasp when they come here is just how big the USA is, esp some of the states in the Midwest where you can drive for hours without meeting another car on the road
15:27
@RichardU very true.. and the converse is also true - I've had friends from your side of the pond come to visit and they couldn't comprehend how closely packed everything is
@motosubatsu Oh yes, and the layouts are far different as well. Over here, the zoning is very strict, so there are very few places where there are corner shops, and very few flats above stores except in the older cities.
15:40
@RichardU our usage rules are very strict - but operate on a more granular level, partly because of things that predate any such rules and partly because we simply don't have as much space
trying to build something on undeveloped land has a million and one rules and hurdles to overcome
and "change of use" is a nightmare to get
we also have the hilarious planning permission system - I looked at changing the roof of my extension from flat to slanted, if the new profile went above the old one (even by so much as a centimetre) I needed planning permission, which not only means I'd have to satisfy the council, building regs and all that but also hope none of my neighbours objected
16:00
@motosubatsu our rules vary wildly from state to state, city to city, and municipality to municipality. In some states, you can get something built in less time than it takes just to secure the permits in other states, sometimes measured in YEARS
@RichardU yeah excluding London and any of the National Parks or rules are pretty much the same in most places
some variation by county but not much
16:32
Hello everyone.
@motosubatsu I am die hard fan of impala
mid 60's
hey @RichardU
16:54
Cheers @Nofel
@RichardU what happend about ur car

1 hour later…
18:17
@Nofel it's fixed, except for some body work
Good, glad to know @RichardU
did u claim insurance?
still in the process of doing so.

A: How to handle employees who are upset over construction

Trevor DIf you want to take a proactive approach, you need to make physical health easy. So rarely do you find a concise encapsulation of the sort of company you'd never want to work at
(speaking for myself obviously)
19:11
@motosubatsu yeah, sounds like Red China
