07:19
Morning all
07:41
Good morning. I really didn't want to wake up this morning.
@Snow We all know the feeling, I watched Aquaman at 11 last night hahaha
Was it good?
To be honest, I quite enjoyed it
Was quite action packed but the story was a bit lacking in some areas but it was overall quite a good watch. Would definitely see it again
Yeah, that's the impression I got from some reviews. Good fun, but not high-brow.
Yeah I'd definitely give it a watch if you have the time though
07:52
@RichardU We had a returning troll (the haircut guy) a while ago, but the infrequent "user was removed" cases are harder to track down. A lot of the time the main user is on another site where they got canned or self-deleted and their votes on other sites then get wiped.
@Twyxz Yeah, probably on streaming.
I missed Creed II that's what I wanted to watch but i'll have to stream it now

4 hours later…
12:07
My god todays dragging...
Mondays should be removed from the working week by law.
@Twyxz when I am Supreme Leader this will be the case
well
for my friends anyway
@motosubatsu I had a theory. Do you think to be in the film industry as a mainstream actor you have to be good looking?
@Twyxz you don't have to be..but I believe it helps
It just seems that you never see an ugly cast these days or a fat cast unless obviously the role is specifically built for those types of things. But for generic characters the norm is for people to be good looking
I mean it makes sense if you're spending millions and millions on actors you want to have someone who'll help boost your sales
fundamentally people prefer to look at pretty people
12:13
Also. I drove an Insignia last night. Was pleasantly surprised hahaaha
@Twyxz I've not driven one actually.. although I've heard that they are surprisingly competent
Yeah nice smooth drive, very comfortable car. Not only that but it's nice on the eye also
@Twyxz they are quite pretty aren't they? much better than the Vectra ever looked
That's basically what it is
A more upmarket less chavvy Vectra
Modern day
cool.. hopefully they've sorted the chassis out a bit in the process - the Vectra was dreadful
12:27
Go test drive one hahah
12:51
You drove a Vauxhall?
@Snow we all have our crosses to bear
It's like choosing to eat at Gregg's.
Hello!
HNY to you.
@Snow tbf I've driven a couple of Vauxhalls that I rather enjoyed
far outweighed by the truly terrible ones of course
12:59
I've only driven one once. That was enough.
Hey @Summer did you get the whole month-unpaid malarky sorted?
Summer returns!
I saw the good ol' purple profile picture
Where's Kilisi these days
@Snow the original Corsa VXR was quite amusing (impressive given the extreme shonkiness of every vanilla Corsa), as was the VXR8 (although calling that a Vauxhall is perhaps a stretch)
@Twyxz and you came running?
Only reason I'm here
Do I pay £2k for a private plate...
Or do I take the smart option and pay £500.. for a less desirable plate with a difference of 2 numbers hahahaha
Seems a bit excessive. I paid £400.
13:07
or take the smart option and do neither?
My level of smart does not extend that far unfortunately
I can literally get my surname on a plate for 40k if anyone wants to chip in
I will never understand purchasing license plates. for vehicles.
£500 buys a feck-ton of fuel
@motosubatsu that much money would keep me in fuel for six months
me for about 1
13:09
@RichardU in my case.. well it's probably 4-5 weeks worth
my commute to work is only five miles.
still didn't keep me safe from accidents... in the work parking lot no less.
Is that the only driving you do? @RichardU
The police threw the book at the woman who hit me.
@Twyxz pretty much. The market is on the way home, as is the bank. I don't have to deviate from my commute to do my shopping.
Having no life helps as well.
@RichardU that's nice.. I mean you'd probably prefer them to have arrested her or something but I suppose a bit of constructive police brutality will do in a pinch
@motosubatsu yep, I have a lovely paid holiday of 4 weeks. :)
13:11
@motosubatsu young, dumb, and distracted. I don't envy her husband.
@Summer Result!
@Summer I don't know what I would do with that much time off.... die of boredom, perhaps.
@RichardU 2 of my last 3 accidents have occurred within 100 yards of my house
We just 'finished' renovating and there's a lot of detailing still to do so it's actually kind of nice I finally got to finish all those things. Did a lot of painting, shelf hanging, organising etc. Visiting relatives I hardly get to see, play some games. It's been pretty good!
@motosubatsu The most glorious people's republic of New Jersey is quite the experience.
13:13
The only accident I've ever had it with a central reservation and myself
But it attacked me, I swear it wasn't my fault.
@Twyxz you're young, give it time.
I've already accepted that I'm going to lose my license in the next 5 years one way or another
@Twyxz I would torment my brothers by commenting that they spent more time in Driving school than they did in high school.
That'll be my next answer to where do you see yourself in 5 years
Without a drivers license maybe?
@Twyxz I managed two in 2016 - both tiny and both my own fault, and one in 2018 which was even tinier and even more my fault.
13:15
Audi drivers
Typical O.o
@Twyxz generally to be avoided where possible
@Twyxz here, it's amazingly easy to lose your driver's license. There are over 60 ways to lose your license that have nothing to do with motor vehicles
@Twyxz <shrug /> two of those were in the WRX
But you're an audi driver now which is what matters @motosubatsu You always end up where destiny takes you
@RichardU Is that in the States?
@Twyxz is that why you've started test driving Vauxhalls?
13:16
I tore off the front bumper of our Audi in a parking lot so I guess I have to confirm the audi driver thing lol. Other than that no accidents hehe.
@motosubatsu tested the insignia to pretend but in reality I'm buyin an 06 Corsa with dipped suspension, custom exhaust and a spoiler bigger than the lanes will allow
Brum brum
Might I add it's going to be 1ltr
No turbo. but I'm gonna be the fastest driver in the North East.
you've given in to your destiny
I mean I also drive a ford
That's no better hahhaha
I suppose with a 1ltr Corsa as the alternative having no license looks much more attractive
That comment has just made Mondays great again!
When a girl says "Why don't you drive" rather than "Ew". I guess it's a conversation to be had rather than not having one at all? :p
13:21
my brother just bought a new Corsa and he's got a less appealing personality than a 270lb fatberg so using the indisputable scientific evidence of that all Corsa owners are oxygen theives
at least the storage bins are large enough for tubes of pringles....
@Snow classy
... or whatever the Asda own-brand equivalent is...
@Twyxz yes, New Jersey, USA.... Also called "New Germany" for our abusive, authoritarian government.
13:41
Stackers?
or are they cheap pringles
then theres own brand
At least we know @motosubatsu has the utmost respect for his brother
@Twyxz he's a twonk
to put it lightly...
how old is your brother?
@Twyxz couple of years older than me
Clearly your destiny was chosen slightly better than his @motosubatsu
14:01
Wow, this morning's crop of questions are.... interesting.
@RichardU it's pretty quiet tbh
@motosubatsu I have noticed a sharp decline.
I'm just wondering if the past tumult is having lasting effects.
@RichardU hard to say.. there's been quiet periods before
@motosubatsu I suppose we will have to wait and see.
no doubt in a few months we'll get the usual round of people who have just graduated uni/school/college and can't believe that work != college
14:11
@motosubatsu yes, and the usual crop of "My manager is meeeeeeen to me, I'm going to tell HR on him" types of questions.
I mean I got +140 rep for the most stupid question I've ever seen
on one hand he has double salary, and on the other he has leaving a overly busy company where work is extremely hard
@Twyxz some of us older folks need to remember that we were once young and foolish. That's one reason I'm a bit harsh on people at times. They don't realize how foolish they are being
But I'm 4 years younger than OP
@Twyxz I've been using black magic at night to age to transfer some of my excess age to you
Oh sweet does that mean I get paid more?!
14:17
you should start to develop liver spots sometime in the next couple of weeks
Or is it just the visual decay and physical disability
@Twyxz depends.. have you invested in a suitable pension plan?
What's a pension?!
Nah I'm joking yeah I have hahah Local government pension is the reason most citys suck
@Twyxz it's what pays for those adult diapers you'll be needing soon
It's okay, My girlfriend works in Gastroenterology as a nurse. Any issues I'll be in good hands
When do I receive these years?
14:23
@Twyxz about that.. you know you recently had an inexplicable urge to drive a Vectra and "quite liked it"
?
well that suggests you're already feeling the effects
He'll be shopping at EWM next.
For a start it was an Insignia, and it wasn't a test drive
My friend just bought one hahaha
Simply because of the fact I don't know what EWM is, I'm beginning to feel worried
I drove my brothers Camaro at christmas. Slightly trumps a Vauxhall, I'd say.
Some stylish stuff right there
Wouldn't mind if I did
14:27
@Twyxz where are you going on your first Saga holiday?
When you walk into an EWM shop, you'll notice that they scent the air, to make old people feel more at home.
And you know this? @Snow
@Twyxz Have you never gone shopping with your girlfriend? They force you to enter shops like this, candle shops, M&Co, etc.
@Snow nah.. last time she asked him to go shopping he demanded to be paid up front
@Snow I just wait outside and cross my arms n look grumpy like a normal old man
14:36
@Twyxz muttering about how nice that brown insignia looked that just drove past
?
talking about how my wheels have no tread left...
tyres even..
@Snow I have learned - only go shopping to places that have a chair near the door. That is where husbands sit :-)
@motosubatsu See I'm preparing early for the future ^^
@RoryAlsop The better shops have a chair and a coffee machine, and a biscuit tin.
14:54
@Snow there's a decidedly odd charity shop near me that has chairs and a coffee machine
@Snow or even better - gin or prosecco (I discovered at Christmas)
I've been dumb enough to answer an Astronomy question - basically as an excuse to quote my favourite movie.
To preserve my sanity, I allow my SO to do all of her shopping alone.
more like "beg", but it's just semantics
I've decided to become an atheist, but only on Christmas and Easter
I sometimes go, in order to earn brownie points.
15:09
@Snow I would rather clean the bathroom with a toothbrush than go shopping
Same here, but doing these things allows me negotiation points toward stuff that I want to do.
@Snow while I don't disapprove.. I feel it was a missed opportunity for a Douglas Adams quote
Armageddon pretty much trumps everything I'm afraid.
Just curious, but would it be possible to put a filter out there that would automatically kick out any question that had the word "Fair" in it. It would save so much trouble and anxiety.
15:28
@Snow I haven't seen Armageddon in frickin ages
Same.
@Snow I've got it on DVD but I feel like standard def is no longer sufficient for such a cinematic magnum opus
I bought it on BluRay, but I think it was filmed in VHS format, sadly. It looked awful on BluRay.
@Snow ugh.. badly done BD releases suck :(
I tend to watch more films in streaming mode these days. I just rent new ones off sky.
15:38
@Snow I still pick up a few choice ones on BD
depends how many times you're going to watch them I guess. I watch films once or twice, so it's cheaper to rent.
@Snow I've rented a few times - mainly when it's obviously something I'm unlikely to watch again (such as when it's someone else's choice of film to watch)
I never really liked Armageddon.
It was a damned sight better than Deep Impact.
@Snow Deep Impact disappears into a mire of it's own melodrama about a third of the way in
by the third act I was cheering for the asteroid(s)
15:48
Move that decimal point one to the left and you're about right. The melodrama starts with the appearance of Tea Leoni and her father.
I felt sad at the ending of Rogue One where they reference Deep Impact.
yeah but Rouge One was awesome so we can forgive it that
Yes, it remains the best Star Wars film yet.
But don't make me watch Solo again.
Well, apart from the feminist robot, which was excellent.
@Snow I still haven't seen Solo
and I'm still apathetic about the prospect
You will probably end up watching it when you want to watch something any too apathetic for anything else.
And if that's the case, watch Billy Madison instead.
Or Happy Gilmore.
@Snow damn.. that bad?
16:01
Oh yes, "Soylo" as they're calling it. The first movie in the franchise to lose money
@Snow Happy Gilmore was entertaining..ish.. once. I think I'd rather just bang my head on a wall until I pass out before watching it again
But nothing cmpares to the dumpster fire that was "The last Jedi"
@RichardU ugh.. don't remind me
@motosubatsu yes, admiral Gender Studies, leading our ragtag band from Poe Solo, to diversity hire, as MarySue studies under cuck skywalker against the patriarchy.
With special appearancy by Lea Poppins.
:4849391 I'm fairly sure that future film school/creative writing students will be forced to study Last Jedi as a form of object lesson in what not to do
16:08

Q: Is this a rant disguised as a question?

dwizumIs it fair to require a candidate to take an automatically-graded online coding test if they have lots of demonstrable material online? The OP asks questions (in the sense that there are sentences with question marks at the end) but he/she seems much more interested in complaining about how they...

I can imagine the whole thing having come about following some sort of personal vendetta between Rian Johnson and ADHD Abrams
"try fixing it now sucker!!"
either that or he just couldn't take the pressure and cracked
everything else I've seen of his suggests he knows how to write and direct a solid effort
16:34
@motosubatsu even the cinematography was amateurish. Having the First order built up to be terrifying, then framing Poe's ship so that from the perspective shown, Poe's ship doesn't look that much smaller, then the stupid "hugs" joke that completely breaks the buildup....
An entire doctoral dissertation could be built on the flaws of TLJ
@RichardU I know.. it was bizarre - Rian Johnson might not have been the most experienced of guys out there, but he's clearly better than the steaming pile of excrement he churned out for TLJ
@motosubatsu The fight scene in the throne room. SHM! When his lightsaber goes to the floor, the "elite guard" strikes at the sword instead of the wide open target being the body... ugh.. Rian "round-head" should have stuck to "chick flicks".
@RichardU and lest we forget the whole Casino planet sub plot that manages the perfect trifector of being a) tedious b) nonsensical and c) utterly pointless
@motosubatsu and the whole message is "Capitalism BAD"
I don't object to politics in stories, but er... there's that little matter of HAVING A PLOT!!!!
16:50
fortunately most of the films attempts are proselytising at me had little effect.. it was all mostly lost in the general jumble of when oh when will this end
with the caveat that I haven't seen Solo it comfortably ranks as the worst Star Wars movie for me
I'd rather watch Attack of the Clones twice, back-to-back then rewatch Last Jedi
yeah.. I went there
17:05
@motosubatsu I've found myself watching reruns of old shows and old movies on Amazon because the new crap holds no interest for me whatsoever
@RichardU I go for a mix.. started watching Titans last night, it's done enough to intrigue me so far
Jury's still not returned a full verdict yet though
@motosubatsu I will confess to watching "The Expanse" and "Goliath", but that's about it. Then again, I look like Billy Bob Thornton.
@RichardU The Expanse is/was excellent
haven't watched any of Goliath yet, although it's tentatively on the list
@motosubatsu yes, but just don't watch it if there are any sharp objects nearby
@motosubatsu Goliath is EXCELLENT, but very depressing.
@RichardU I may have to pick my time for that one then.. not sure I could handle much more depression right now
17:10
@motosubatsu Yeah, it's a real "earn your happy ending" type of series
My own life is depressing enough.
At least I'm past that rough patch of last year.
17:23
that seizure question is (I presume) in America - that being the case you guys officially need to sort your sh#t out with regards healthcare
18:06
@motosubatsu If it's in America, then chances are, not a thing can be done as the employer would expose themselves to massive liability
