@DavidK Unfortunately, question protection doesn't work that way. :( There need to be at least two "low quality" answers before a 15k+ user can protect it. Also, if I remember correctly there is a 24 hour waiting period before it can be protected, although shog made an exception for The Workplace, and we can do it "immediately" after getting 2 "low quality" answers.
Of course, diamond moderators can protect any question without any restrictions.
@Lilienthal it wouldn't get to HNQ (maybe one of the most annoying things for trolls posting such questions, and most exciting for those who observe how these trolls fail to get what they want). For quite a while words sex, sexual etc in title block questions from getting into HNQ...
...just enjoy watching how such questions could be handled normally, without being polluted by hordes of Stack Overflow lemmings. :) Lucky folks at Math.SE can do tricks like that to almost all of their questions by injecting MathJAX into titles. Just put dollar signs around some number or letter and say bye-bye to HNQ (and they do that, I saw it)
...at Math.SE any 2K user can drop the question off HNQ with a simple title edit. And guess what, sky didn't fall on them because of that, their site is doing fine
I'm doing a lot of learning and playing around with different technologies on my own, but I don't use them professionally or on daily basis, so I am kind of hesitant to put them in my skillset
on the other hand linked is bloated with skills, every other person is a CTO or CEO, so I feel like I'm losing the race if I don't play the same game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@angarg12 I basically update my CV when I'm applying for something (or occasionally if I learn/do something I want to add in between), I have more stuff than I have space for so I just choose whatever is most relevant to whatever I'm applying for that can fit
@Magisch I taught myself VBA in about a week, but I had a strong foundation from a top school. I think it depends on how strong a programming foundation you have.
@angarg12 When it comes to CVs. If you're not coming in through a personal connection, then getting past the Applicant Tracking system does involve a lot of "Keyword Bingo"
The key is to get the word on your CV in a form that won't get you picked out for being deceptive later.
If I were you, I'd have 3 lines at the top of your CV like this: Proficient In: [Technologies] Some Experience In: [Technologies] Knowledgable Of: [Technologies]
That lets you get your widespread experience on your CV in a way that a hiring manager isn't going to consider deceptive when they actually read it.
@RichardU My first day in my job, I was given an Excel-Based dashboard and asked to automate it.
About a year of reading, googling, and coding later, I considered myself proficient in VBA.
Today, 2 years after that, I now consider myself vaguely-not-terrible in VBA ^^
findCasingFromPCBType(pcbid as string, optional findfileidinstead as boolean, optional findconfigidinstead as boolean, optional findorderinstead as boolean, optional orderfilteryear as string)
@Kaz or, more annoyingly, from the one apprentice project that somehow became a business critical application 7 years ago:
public function asl_c (b as variant, dl as variant, nl as variant, optional cz as boolean, optional uz as boolean, optional uzx as integer, optional uzp as float) as variant
If you're anywhere in europe - just go. If it's as bad as it sounds your employer has no right to advance notice or objection. Simply deliver them the doctor's letter afterwards
You could have just called in one day "I'm experiencing heavy pain / a medical issue that requires urgent treatment. I'll be on sick time until $date. Doctor's note will follow in $time"
You don't ask to leave, you just say "I have a medical emergency. I'm going to the hospital". Give them any information they might need in 1 minute flat and then go.
Let me repeat again: Deadlines and your manager's opinion are of no concern. Make sure to get the treatment you need. No job is worth dying over and this one certainly isn't.
@Kaz apologies wasn't clear.. if he can get an on-spec appointment at his GP that can sometimes be faster than waiting times at a walk in or A&E and I think we're both on the same page that getting seen by a medical type ASAP is what he should be aiming for
The only thing that could mean coughing up blood and nothing serious would be a cut in the mouth and you swallowed a little blood. everything else should be treated as an emergency
the only non-serious one I can think of that would have you spitting a significant amount of blood is dental work, and since he didn't mention it I'm guessing that's not the case here
well just that really.. you were coughing up blood (which is scary and can be a sign of very, very serious problems - see everyone's reaction here), you told him this and he responded by telling you that you can't go as you're "behind on X, Y & Z" That makes him an arsehole
@Magisch To be fair, we are making all sorts of assumptions here about what, exactly, @Nofel communicated to them, and what, exactly, they thought was going on. But yes, doesn't look good either way.
the thing is if en employee of mine was asking to go to the docs because they were coughing up blood I wouldn't give a shit about whether they were behind or not on their work
Yea, Even I told him I will in late today coz of XYZ, He texted me saying if ABC is checked in on friday (I missed one file) and when I came in, he was all ninja on me
@Kaz sure, sure. But even downplaying it if someone mentions coughing up blood the only(!) humane reaction is to tell them to get to a medical professional now
There is a reason why generally people freak out when you mention it and that's because it's a serious symptom that needs immediate investigating
I have a long line of service and I can trace my family to both the mayflower and Jamestown. I have ancestors that served in every war and conflict, and have 8 years service myself... and I find myself crying at the state today.
@SoylentGray I tried to enlist, but was rejected due to my hearing. Both my brother and my father served. My father saw what was happening and shared your feelings. It's disgusting.
I wanted to say thanks for the admins and helpers who do what they do to help out plebs like me! <-- Thank you. However, part of the things we do is close/delete and control off topic content.. — enderland ♦1 min ago
guys, dear admins, I need some help very badly... I have posted an ANONYMOUS question here at workplace but somehow the profile picture was assigned from my other stackexchange accounts... This is terrible because this profile picture I use everywhere and I don't want to be related to this question (that's why I made it anonymous) ...but since it is an "anonymous" user I can't edit the picture... HELP please :(
When I'm being anonymous I do a couple things. First, I have several emails and the domains I own all have "catch-all" aliases so I can make one that says "[email protected]" and it'll get to me.
Second, I use a completely different browser. Normally I use Chrome so I'll use Edge or IE if I'm being "sneaky"
That way there's no risk of cookie collision.
let me rephrase that. with a catch-all I don't have to make one, I just put whatever I want as the account and if the account doesn't exist, all email goes to my main account automatically.
I think I'm still too naive :( this was my first anonymous post... usualy I only use Stack Overflow... but will definitely have in mind your advices @ChristopherEstep
I'm sneaky, plus I'm old. I've been on the net since before there was a "web" :)
It's a good idea in general to have several addresses anyway. I have gmail, hotmail, and yahoo, icloud plus a personal domain name and 2 side projects.
@LangeHaare not too well unfortunately. I don't really know enough to a. know where to look or b. how to interpret the prerequisites on ads. And also, being a student severely limits jobs - remote/in-area, and part-time in some manner.
I am doing better in some ways though - I've added more things to github, gotten more involved with an open source project I use, and i'm writing my first question to post on code review.
@Nofel Can you get a doctor's note? You shouldn't have to, your manager sounds like a piece of work, but at least it would lay to rest his accusations of dishonesty.
