What is the community standards around content on user's profiles? Just happened to be reading this user's profile workplace.stackexchange.com/users/98284/emilyscott
The borderline sexualized language specifically preceding the bullet list - any thoughts?

@Anthony Thanks for reporting this. Has been dealt with now. Clearly unacceptable.

1 hour later…
8:02 AM
Good Morning TWP!!

Morning!

8:30 AM
morning everyone

8:45 AM
Still top 5 for the year
surprisingly

9:21 AM
Mornin all

9:39 AM
Hello!

good morning
So, apparently, kilisi got suspended

@rath come again?

it seems so, 2 days left

@avazula hm...

What for?
Which post

9:49 AM
@Twyxz Usually that is not revealed, is not it?

Nope not usually
but some people tend to have suspicions haha
usually rather obvious
Gregory Curie is on an absolute rollllll 8 days rep caps
for a new ish user

@Twyxz I have that feeling too

10:07 AM
@avazula Sorry, which feeling? :p

@Twyxz that they're gonna be banned soon
unless I got you wrong?

@avazula I think contexts are mixed up, suspension and rep-cap are two different topics, unless, of course, I'm missing something.. :)

@SouravGhosh ha, I think I got rep cap wrong. Rep cap is when you hit 200 pts a day, right?

@avazula Righty
hey @motosubatsu, I casted a close vote on this
I thought it was specific to organization rules...

ha... then, oops, I got it wrong. Sorry. Maybe I'm the only one feeling this :p

10:14 AM
@avazula NP
this one
is it better suited at startup SE?

10:27 AM
Oh, darn, it's closed now....

Yeah I'm just really confused
What's closed?

@Twyxz Startup SE...seems it never crossed the beta
@Twyxz I read about it long back

@SouravGhosh it is.. but given that in many locations it isn't I think it's valid IMO, the answer happens to be that it's company specific but it's not unreasonable to ask whether it is

Thought it would have graduated

Q: Did I make a mistake by ccing email to boss to others?

PhilI am a new (3 months) software developer in a smallish software company (10 people). I've been given a new project which has complex and poorly documented requirements, and I've been asked to speak to my boss before I begin work so he can show me what to do. I did contact him, asking him to hel...

^ I'm almost literally facepalming for this guy

11:00 AM
@motosubatsu True
People need to understand the fact that complaining is not going to solve a problem, finding a solution is. :)

11:50 AM
@motosubatsu Joe gave him the spanking he needed though

1 hour later…
12:59 PM
ooooo, my letter to the mods is not being well received. no comments though.

@RichardU I suspect it is being taken by some the same way you took being told you had to be nice to new users

@IDrinkandIKnowThings um.... wut?
Yeah, that's why I have to fight the urge

It has an air of condescension about it. I know you mean well but it comes across very know it all
That said I think its got good content so I hope the mods take it in the way you intended

@IDrinkandIKnowThings If I were half as bad as I'm being portrayed, even I would hate me, but that's been my life's story. It's even worse in Real Life. I almost got into a huge bit of trouble at one job because something I said was interpreted as sarcasm. Luckily, my boss knew me well enough to know that I was sincere and he handled it.
There are times I feel that I could say "have a nice day" and get called out on that.

1:22 PM
@RichardU I have those days too

@IDrinkandIKnowThings I think it would be great if the "assume good intentions" rule was followed a bit more closely.
I see Kilisi is reaching his boiling point too.
I think part of it is that some of us have had it real rough, and it gives us rough edges and little tolerance for petty BS.
and IMO, there seems to be an obsession with petty BS

Those seem to be the questions that get the most activity(ones dealing with petty bs)

Afternoone everyone

@IDrinkandIKnowThings I suppose answering "Grow up, deal with life like the rest of us, and stop whining", wouldn't be an accepted answer.
@Nofel Cheers! How goes the hunt.

@RichardU market is asking what I have the least
I am race aganist time
to learn, luckily the TD I m doing have that module.
2 telephonic interviews, 1 went well, the other was dry and I dont wanna work there too where management is dry

1:35 PM
@Nofel What I do isn't asked for much at all, it's about finding your niche, you'll be okay.

@RichardU good thing is what I was doing is very transferable to what is needed
but they need a lot of commerical exp.
what is more disturbing that ur spouse asking, how did it go
I understand she is stressed coz we will run out of saving next month end
Thank God for savings
anyway, sup @RichardU
whats new at ur end

@Nofel finally broke down and got a new Playstation4. first toy I've bought for myself in 20 years. My SO is getting on me to stop being so worried about other people and start taking care of myself.

@RichardU yes, urself or myself comes first
we have saying "Jan hai tu jahan hai" which mean "if u have health then u have the world"
people run after world or worry about world while ignoring health.

2:09 PM
Anyone fancy taking part in the One Funnel away challenge?

@Nofel Never realized you speak Hindi... :)

@Twyxz I may be being unfair but the whole thing positively reeks of scam

https://workplace.stackexchange.com/posts/131833/revisions
I'm new around here, but I'm surprised by these edits. They seem to remove contextually significant information?

@motosubatsu It's ran by Russel Brunson, The site is god awful I know. I'm tempted to try and contact to get it sorted for access for free haha, but this guy is legit. Clickfunnels is 100% legit

@GregoryCurrie tough one.. I wouldn't personally have made the edit that Monica did, although I do think the primary thing those now-removed bits contributed was making the question look..suspect

2:17 PM
I've used it for my ecom business and it works wonders
but it also looks like a scam
his designer is awful I have no idea how you have that much money and make that much crap
but his concepts and system is the real deal.

I think it's a very interesting question. To be honest, the first thing I'd ask is, "how the hell would he suspect the guy has a fake family". Is he stalking him? What's the story here.

@GregoryCurrie At first look, it appears so...but if you read carefully, you'll see, the attempt is made to focus more on "time theft" rather than "having imaginary kids"

@motosubatsu The only worrying thing is he teaches how to make your funnels not look like scams ahahahha

I think the focus is the dishonesty, and someone getting either company or coworker benefit via a lie

@GregoryCurrie Sure I would not also have done the edit or approved it, but I don't think it's actively harming, either

2:19 PM
Fair enough, I'm still getting calibrated

@Twyxz I'd have more confidence in his ability to do that if his advertising for said "challenge" didn't look extremely scammy itself

It's legit
I assure you
I'd even guarantee your £100

What is this challenge?

onefunnelaway.com

Risky click
lol
What is this bullshit

2:32 PM
@GregoryCurrie a greater question is why do businesses have to cater to people who have kids

@RichardU I think that this point it's just expected.
I've raised this in person with people. Apparently the world population will die out.

@Twyxz The first time I saw that, I thought it said "One funeral away"
Which reminds me, I've got another one tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that

@GregoryCurrie I tried to sell my life's story to a country music songwriter, he said, nah, too sad for a country music song.

I can kinda make sense of some rationale to support people having kids, mostly around gender equality. Females are generally more impacted by having kids.

2:34 PM
@SouravGhosh Hindi and Urdu are very similiar
where u from @SouravGhosh

@RichardU With a rep that high, your life can't be that bad
That's why I'm here, to find rep and happiness

@GregoryCurrie Ever read my profile?

@Nofel OK
@Nofel India

@GregoryCurrie rep doesn't bring happiness.. only cookies :D

@RichardU It was linked in the meta post for 100K (special mention)
@motosubatsu I wish it came alongwith some pizza and pony....

2:36 PM
@SouravGhosh. I saw that, thank you.

@GregoryCurrie more seriously.. welcome to the site! you seem to be settling in pretty well :)

@GregoryCurrie It's annoying when you are single, or don't have kids, or don't have kids living with you, and your vacation plans get scrapped because a parent NEEDS that day off.

@RichardU I understand what you're saying. To be fair, it's pretty bullshit.
But I don't dare say such things in the workplace. Having children is a god-given right.

I'd get killed on the main site if I ever asked this, but here's one for the peanut gallery: Why should businesses accommodate parents at all? In this day and age, almost no pregnancies are unplanned, and certainly no birth is unplanned, so why should businesses pay for employees' choices.

@RichardU You're welcome, but don;t thank me please, everyone should read it...we all need motivation and learning lessons, who better than you?

2:39 PM
@motosubatsu I'm going alright. I really enjoy answering questions on unprofessional behaviour, especially cause I was fired from my last job :)

@SouravGhosh well, perhaps from the "Nothing serves so well as a bad example" perspective.
@GregoryCurrie oh, do tell o.0

@RichardU Because it helps to build a culture where family matters.

I don't know if I can deal with both these convos happening concurrently :)

@IDrinkandIKnowThings aaaaaaaaah!!!! "build a culture" RUN AWAY!!! RUN AWAY!!!
@GregoryCurrie it's fine if you're autistic or have ADHD

@RichardU Interviews should be as much about you finding out if you can fit in with the company, as if the company wants to hire you.

2:42 PM
I'm also answering a question, give me 10 min

@IDrinkandIKnowThings yeah, learned that one the hard way

@RichardU Most of us have

@IDrinkandIKnowThings I used to scan for Dilbert comic strips when I walked in. Employee happiness = 1/number of dilbert strips visible

@IDrinkandIKnowThings much less prosaic but probably more accurately - it means that valuable skills aren't lost to the workforce by forcing people to choose between having kids or having a job

@RichardU I really can't get into too much detail, but fundamentally I said something to a member of staff who I thought was a friend, they complained to HR. I owned my words (I was actually under a bit of shock that this was the person to complain), and yeah, they suspended me and then fired me.

2:56 PM
@GregoryCurrie ooof.. that sucks :(

@GregoryCurrie yeah, rule #1, you have no friends at work, only people you are friendly with.

I really don't miss the work. But I really miss the people. My friends.
I don't want to say I was revered at work, but I had a lot of respect. I was quite well know, and I was usually quite inappropriate with what I said to people at work who I considered friends.

@GregoryCurrie time for r/ProRevenge

And to be honest, I lasted 7 years, so I think I was very much overdue

@GregoryCurrie yeah, if they terminated you over one thing, it was prob for the best. Sounds like they were looking for a reason to be rid of you, and you were looking for one to leave.

2:59 PM
:)
Perceptive

@GregoryCurrie are you familiar with trickster myths/legends?

I was known as a bit of a disruptor.
I am not

@GregoryCurrie sounds like you're a bit of a trickster yourself.
The trickster achetype is the creative destruction that comes from different perspectives and points of view.

I was also a technical lead of about 15 people, so maybe not the right archetype for that role

@GregoryCurrie yeah. You can't be the leader and the rebel, unless you're the rebel leader, and that brings problems of it's own.
@GregoryCurrie I once got thrown off of an executive board for asking too many questions that they couldn't answer

3:03 PM
I actually got on quite well with the CTO, so it's a very strange situation.
Just for context, there were a lot of tech leads that were very... head in the sky. Where I was more focused on the practical realities of day to day, and the impacts on some of these changes on our clients.

@GregoryCurrie yep, I know the type. Ooooh, those types react to pragmatism the way Dracula reacts to a cross

But yeah. All good. I went from a tech lead, to a senior dev earning more money. A lot less stress. Less hours.
But yeah. Miss the people.
I feel like when people lose their job, that narrative is often missed.
Like in movies and stuff. Downplayed massively.
It's not just the people, but the interactions you have with people on a day-by-day basis.
Sort of hard to explain.
And yeah, I'm sympathetic that you may not be able to relate too much.
(no offense)

I think I understand what you mean about missing the people. I'm relatively young in my career and already the best part of my job is the people

Can anyone understand what is the question here? Taken on as junior developer boss pressurising me

@SouravGhosh was just reading that

3:09 PM
I think they were hired as a junior member, senior member left. They pick up the pieces.

I think it might be heading for a "needs a goal we can address" closure
I feel for them - sounds like they have been dropped in at the deep end through no fault of their own

I read it as general confusion/fear of rumored termination and not sure what to do
and would agree with the needs a goal.

Is the closing process usually slow on TWP?

@avazula we've been deliberately slowing it down, as we want to have at least a few of them open.

@avazula Dunno, I already cast mine on this

3:19 PM
TWP?

The workplace @GregoryCurrie

Now I feel dumb.

It's fine, just laugh at @motosubatsu You can't get worse than that

Damnit. I was halfway through an answer!
@motosubatsu is evil

@GregoryCurrie that's certainly true... but at least I'm good at it :)

3:23 PM
I can learn a lot from you

@RichardU ok thanks for the info :)

@motosubatsu Chaotic evil means never having to say you're sorry

Remote work is ... interesting

@avazula here we like to give the user to edit his or her post before we swoop in. For a while there though....

@GregoryCurrie to be fair I wasn't the final close vote on that one, I'm generally reluctant to vote to close unless I have to.. but I thought about that one up, down and sideways and the closest I could get to an actual question in it was "should I go freelance?"

3:26 PM
My partner is currently trying to install the Christmas tree

O.o

And my cat's watching
^^

Well, this is interesting, my meta post sits at zero. +5/-5 I think I've mastered the art of being divisive.

o.O

@RichardU I'm more Lawful Neutral
@avazula how far are you going to let him get before point out that it's March?
3

3:28 PM
Im neutral good

@motosubatsu I suffer from too much Oppositional Defiance disorder, brought on by PTSD to be lawful.
In other words, people in authority abused it.

@motosubatsu All good. What do I do with my answer. Can I PM it to them or something?

I think I can call myself Chaotic good, with evil tendencies.

@motosubatsu Well he already asked me "when are we going to install the Xmas tree", to what I said not until December 1st, then he said "on which is your time notion based, are you referring to your computer clock system", I said "nope, the Geneve atomical clock". He froze for a minute and went back upstairs to play video games
I think he may be getting bored of unemployment ^^

@GregoryCurrie Might be worth doing an edit to the Q to clarify the question you believe they are asking - then you can post a re-open request on meta

3:30 PM
@avazula I could have gone on perm disability, but I would have died of boredom.

@RichardU Ok, I'm trying my darndest to figure that one out, but I admit, it's a bit of a stretch

@RichardU I totally understand that

@jdkorv11 figure which one out. Sorry, I'm carrying on 15 conversations at once, not counting the ones I'm having with my various personalities.

@RichardU the alignment. My best understanding is Mischievous Chaotic good
it just caught me off guard and I thought it was self contradictory for a moment

@jdkorv11 Oh, I'm quite mischievous, that's true, but I've been known to go full "bugs bunny", when I witness cruelty.
"Of course you know, this means war".

3:40 PM
The only proper response of course

Trolled some neo-Nazis right off of a few boards on Delphi, back in the day

Real neo-Nazis, or just people who are right-leaning?

@RichardU just remember to take that left turn at Albuquerque

@GregoryCurrie real neo-Nazis with the 18 or 88 in their name

Bugs bunny reference
How do I know that

3:42 PM
and oddly enough I had the opportunity to introduce my wife to that specific bugs bunny cartoon just last week. "Presta pu da gay, Puta Presta, pull a rabbit from the hat"

(Not 18 or 88)

BTW, the neo Nazis include 18 or 88 because 1 = A and 8 = H. 18 = Adolf Hitler, 88 = Heil Hitler.
<= lost family in WWII to the REAL Nazis. has zero tolerance for them
I learned all about them so I could disrupt them at every turn.

4:00 PM
OK People, need to wrap up for the day
Have a good evening / good day
See y'all tomorrow

HAND

@RichardU 88 also make reference to SS, and the 88 precepts of david lane

@Kepotx most of them are not sophisticated enough to understand that. Not the brightest bunch, for the most part.

sure. A good example is the existence of frenchs (also work with slavs, but I don't know them enough to talk about them) neo-nazis
sure, you can be fascist, but nazism also adds a whole race package, where some people are seen as inferior, including french, the natural enemy of german people...

4:17 PM
@Kepotx well there's also a resurgence of hatred towards Jewish people, who knows why
Media love those stories because it makes the yellow jackets movement racist and dangerous, without even trying to know whether they're indeed part of the movement
@Kepotx Are you French as well? I see you talking about France quite often

@avazula anti-Semitism is a special kind of awful, as it is usually a clear signal that a nation is about to fall apart.

yes, I'm french

@RichardU ha thank you, I couldn't remember the word. Yeah, that's terrible to see this kind of things happen in our country. We thought we'd be past that.
@Kepotx Ooh, hi neighbour!

@RichardU well, i guess anytime a scapegoat is designed, it means something is wrong

@Kepotx it's usually worse when it's the jews being singled out, because it's never just about the jews as a race. Jews are notoriously resistant to government's attempts to curtail their faith. when they become targets, they're usually just the first

4:25 PM
and about yellow jackets, the movement is way too broad and heterogeneous to be qualified by any "ism"

@Kepotx yes, I've been following the yellow jacket protests. Frightening.

@RichardU When I traveled to the Czech Republic last September I was impressed to see how were the Jews segregated as a people like, for centuries ... I knew the Jews were targeted during the Middle Age but it's scary to see how far it went

don't know the name, but someone on medias called the yellow jacket anarco-fascist. These two words are exact opposites, anarchism is the construction of a society without state, while fascism is built around a strong state

@Kepotx that one's funny

@Kepotx two great tastes that taste great together eh?

4:27 PM
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Do you have a lot of strikes in your city today? I chose to work remotely because the buses announced they'd be on strike.

@Kepotx my grabdfather was a unionist and a Catholic, at least until he got excommunicated, but that's another story.

I'm on Nantes, so they are a lot of yellow jackets, but at least this saturday, it went well, as they gather with climate march

Here we have a bunch of white, middle class, knuckleheads LARPing as revolutionaries.

@Kepotx oh right, you must have a lot of yellow jackets in there. I'm originally from Loire-Atlantique and I see a lot of them on the roundabouts near St Nazaire when I come to visit my family on the weekends. I'm from Rennes and there's not so many people during the week, but on the weekends, I hear the flash balls when I'm walking in the city ...

4:31 PM
I wonder how long my meta question will be at Zero. It seems everytime someone votes it in one direction, another votes in the other.

Hi Neo @MisterPositive
@RichardU if you share I can vote and make the scale move towards one direction or the other :D

@avazula I have achieved perfect balance at this point.... +5/-5 = 0

Q: An open letter to the mods of TWP

Richard UFirst of all, let me congratulate you all on the fine job you do, most of it behind the scenes with little visibility and virtually no thanks. So, on behalf of myself, and everyone who has thought it, but not said it: A warm, sincere, and honest thanks. You take a good deal many verbal kicks i...

@RichardU that's my point, I can make it move evil laugh

@avazula :D

Well ... I shall say, I don't disagree with you but, what is it you're trying to achieve with this?
Oh dear. I read this, immediately thought "sounds like OP's in the French VG industry". Checked their profile, ha. They are, indeed. I feel for them.

Q: Exposing a company lying about themselves in a tightly knit industry (videogames) : Is my career at risk on the long run?

NyakouaiTLDR : My former company is the example of start-ups malpractices. They're also vastly lying about themselves. Darn, I just realized I have access to the review queues here as well!

5:46 PM
@avazula Hello there! Been swamped at work today....how is life treating you?

@MisterPositive Ouch... hope it's doing better now :)

slowing down a bit. production issues are always fun...

Ha, production ...
I'm a DevOps engineer, God knows pushing into production is hard ;)
well, I do too haha

@avazula LOL

tbh I'm freaking out about not being good enough for my new job but I shouldn't worry about it rn, I'll only start in June...
I got to see some of your IPS answers today btw, you've got great advice
I know you don't like the site but I still think you brought something to it so, thank you for that

5:51 PM
@avazula Very kind of you to say!
@avazula IMO its a lot better now.
I try to pop in from time to time, but time is my issue....

@MisterPositive smiles we're good people, trying our best :D
I bet, with the job, the moderating stuff and the family... must be challenging

@avazula Its usually not too bad. :-)

Good to hear :)

Got to get back to it, take care!

Have a nice day!
