@IDrinkandIKnowThings If I were half as bad as I'm being portrayed, even I would hate me, but that's been my life's story. It's even worse in Real Life. I almost got into a huge bit of trouble at one job because something I said was interpreted as sarcasm. Luckily, my boss knew me well enough to know that I was sincere and he handled it.
There are times I feel that I could say "have a nice day" and get called out on that.

I think it's a very interesting question. To be honest, the first thing I'd ask is, "how the hell would he suspect the guy has a fake family". Is he stalking him? What's the story here.
@GregoryCurrie At first look, it appears so...but if you read carefully, you'll see, the attempt is made to focus more on "time theft" rather than "having imaginary kids"
I can kinda make sense of some rationale to support people having kids, mostly around gender equality. Females are generally more impacted by having kids.
@GregoryCurrie It's annoying when you are single, or don't have kids, or don't have kids living with you, and your vacation plans get scrapped because a parent NEEDS that day off.
I'd get killed on the main site if I ever asked this, but here's one for the peanut gallery: Why should businesses accommodate parents at all? In this day and age, almost no pregnancies are unplanned, and certainly no birth is unplanned, so why should businesses pay for employees' choices.
@IDrinkandIKnowThings much less prosaic but probably more accurately - it means that valuable skills aren't lost to the workforce by forcing people to choose between having kids or having a job
@RichardU I really can't get into too much detail, but fundamentally I said something to a member of staff who I thought was a friend, they complained to HR. I owned my words (I was actually under a bit of shock that this was the person to complain), and yeah, they suspended me and then fired me.
I really don't miss the work. But I really miss the people. My friends.
I don't want to say I was revered at work, but I had a lot of respect. I was quite well know, and I was usually quite inappropriate with what I said to people at work who I considered friends.
@GregoryCurrie yeah, if they terminated you over one thing, it was prob for the best. Sounds like they were looking for a reason to be rid of you, and you were looking for one to leave.
I actually got on quite well with the CTO, so it's a very strange situation.
Just for context, there were a lot of tech leads that were very... head in the sky. Where I was more focused on the practical realities of day to day, and the impacts on some of these changes on our clients.
@GregoryCurrie to be fair I wasn't the final close vote on that one, I'm generally reluctant to vote to close unless I have to.. but I thought about that one up, down and sideways and the closest I could get to an actual question in it was "should I go freelance?"
@motosubatsu Well he already asked me "when are we going to install the Xmas tree", to what I said not until December 1st, then he said "on which is your time notion based, are you referring to your computer clock system", I said "nope, the Geneve atomical clock". He froze for a minute and went back upstairs to play video games

@Kepotx it's usually worse when it's the jews being singled out, because it's never just about the jews as a race. Jews are notoriously resistant to government's attempts to curtail their faith. when they become targets, they're usually just the first
