Q: Would it be appropriate for me to post some questions or answers about disabilities in the workplace?

Richard UI haven't seen to many, and the answers all seem to be restricted to seek legal advice File an ADA action They can't do that Leave In fact there are far more options. The first two are impractical, the third is worthless, and the last shouldn't always be the only viable answer. Would it be...

8 hours later…
8:48 AM
Morning all

Good morning to you. Friday at last.
On Sunday, my mother is taking me for a birthday treat to the most dangerous place in the UK. I'm somewhat worried.

@Snow London?

@Snow Glasgow?

Worse. Salisbury.

@Snow Ah, nyet tovarich, Salisbury not dangerous, harasho?

8:58 AM
I'll be taking my own water and wearing Marigolds all day.

can I have your stuff if an unfortunate neurotoxin-related accident happens?

@motosubatsu I can't guarantee that my stuff won't be contaminated....

no problem.. I can get the local car valeting place to give the inside of the Macan a good going over. They took my S6 out for a joyride last time I left it with them so I might even get two birds with one stone

You'd have to get the key out of my cold, dead hands first....

9:20 AM
@Snow cool.. thanks for letting me know where it will be.. going searching through your pockets just feels a tad disrespectful. Do you know if I'll be able to bring my hacksaw on the train or will I need to purchase one locally?

Seems kind of ironic that I'm reading "Warm Bodies" right now.

also don't be pulling any of that hire company nonsense and leaving it on fumes

Haha. No. I usually fill it up when the light comes on.

@Snow that's been on my to-read list for about the last 5 years, I'm actually not sure where my copy has ended up
@Snow result.. it's a long drive back from Salisbury to Blackpool and having to stop for fuel first would be irritating

It's a good book, and an interesting perspective. I'm actually reading the sequel right now.
Blackpool. Is "The Big One" still running?

9:30 AM
@Snow erm.. I think so, I've never actually been to the Pleasure Beach - despite the fact that I can actually hear the screams from my house

I last rode that maybe 15 years ago. It was old even then. The ride wasn't scary - it was the general rattling/swaying/squeaking that was the scary part.

@Snow yeah I know a guy who used to work on the maintenance and apparently it was commonplace for the guys working the rides to be more or less permanently drunk

It is Blackpool, after all....

indeed

When I last went there, Sonia was the headline act on the pier theatre.

9:48 AM
@Snow you're not doing a very good job of dispelling your image of being old
although that's a pretty good effort staying away that long

The closest I get is the M6 going past. Tebay services.

@Snow the M6 is at minimum safe distance really
have you ever actually stopped at Tebay? it actually manages to make a service station a non-horrible place to be

Yes, we stop there most of the time, and stayed at the hotel once. They've done a good job with it. Shame that last time it was raining so we had to sit in the car to eat because there's nowhere dog friendly.

last time I was there it was snowing.. was sat in the car having a cig just watching the ducks wandering around looking pissed off with the weather

Did they have lasers?

9:57 AM
sadly not, don't think such tech would be in keeping with the rural asthetic

10:36 AM
A further sign of my old age is that I've taken on an allotment.

2 hours later…
12:09 PM
@Snow I can't even keep on top of my tiny garden

It'll get me out of the house. And I'd like to see if I can grow some veg.

12:23 PM
Ah, the Britriarchy is monopolizing chat again ;)

Oh, the American has arrived.... ;)

@Snow I seem to be an atypical one, at least ;)

Yes, that's true enough. Neo is our typical typical.

@RichardU I dunno.. rolls in mid-afternoon, first uttered words are to complain. Sounds like SOP for you colonial scallywags

@motosubatsu FOR THE WIN! LOL

12:36 PM
@RichardU bland TV catchphrase, txtspk and shouty.. that's it Yankee Doodle keep proving my point :D

And laughing out loud. That's an American thing right there.

Can't help it, you guys are great :D

@RichardU next you'll be telling us to "Have a nice day!" and bombing us for our oil

Although the only oil we have is extra virgin rape seed oil.

@Snow when has their esteemed President ever let facts get in the way of anything?

12:43 PM
Well he certainly got in the way of the Queen....

Hmm, the President's wife was apparently "terrified" of the umbrella guy recently, so ... how do they say it ... who's the boss? :P

@Snow I think you'll find that's Fake News, a total hoax and possibly a Democrat conspiracy (but he'll get back to you on that last one once Vlad replies to his tweet)

I'm still amazed he was allowed to keep his phone.

@Snow me too... I fully expected there would have been a firm boot-to-the-neck moment regarding his tweeting once he entered office.. how naive I was back then

Didn't Obama only have one dumb phone with just his family members on there? It didn't even have a camera.

12:56 PM
@Snow he had a modded Blackberry IIRC - I seem to remember him complaining because they wouldn't let him have an iPhone

Yeah, it was on that Bear Grylls program that he did. He had to get a phone of a security guy so he could take a selfie.

@Snow yeah I don't think many old-school BBs had front-facing cameras
(I refuse to call them "selfie cameras")

I've only used my selfie camera once. And that photo was mainly of dog faces.

@Snow I think I've used the front-facing camera a few times for skype calls or whatever but that's about it

Oh no. I don't do video calls...

1:04 PM
@Snow good shout.. they are generally completely rubbish

Good. I shan't bother needlessly then.

1:20 PM
One good thing about the USA is that it's never boring. I'd love to move out of my insane section of it though.
NJ literally taxes anything that moves.
the latest is water

Houses are free then!

@Snow my father was paying more in taxes every four years than he'd originally paid for the property. He was going broke by the time he died, and his biggest expense was taxes.
My ex wife pays less than half in taxes in a year than my dad did in a month. She lives in a different state.

Contractors hate taxes. I was forever paying taxes.

@Snow amen to that
if it weren't for my accountant I'd probably go postal over the whole issue

1:36 PM
I've always said that all taxes should be paid in five dollar bills at the courthouse with your entire family in tow.

once they had to rebuild a few courthouses that had been burned to the ground, the tax burden would be seriously reconsidered
can we get two more reopen votes for this one?

Q: I have absconded from a reputed company after 7 working days before signing any offer letter. What could be the consequences?

user90351I joined a reputed company in India, and worked there for 7 days. They did not provide me any offer/appointment/joining letter until that time. I haven't signed any document stating the notice period policy. I absconded from the company after sending them a decent email from my personal mail, w...

@RichardU I will cast the 5th if someone casts the 4th.

@MaskedMan I could use a fifth myself ;)

I could use a double.

2:03 PM
@MaskedMan 4th VTRO cast

Hello good people of water cooler

@motosubatsu arigato

2:19 PM
@MaskedMan bitte sehr

hey y'all

@RafM. yo

how's things with everyone?

I'm cold. The air conditioning here is set too low.

not bad.. glad it's Friday and I've got less than half an hour of work to go

2:32 PM
@Snow isn't that a nightmare? Same in my office - AC is set always 10-15 degrees lower that temperature outside. It's freezing cold inside and extremely hot outside!

It's like a see-saw. When it get hotter outside, it gets colder inside.

Hm, how can I move discussion form comments to chat? Should I create a new chat room relevant to the question, or just expect people to discuss it here?

@RafM. one of our benevolent overlords can move it for you

Either is fine. We normally only move comments to chat if there's way too many comments.

Got you. Thanks. :)
Benevolent overlords - LOL

2:39 PM
Which question/answer is it?

I don't think it deserves its own room, tbh.

Q: Got hired without being asked relevant questions in the interview

Double Vision Stout Fat HeavyI recently got hired as a Java programmer. The thing is, the interviewers were looking for both Javascript (front-end) and Java (back-end) programmers, and I told them I had experience in both. During the interview, they only asked me front-end (Javascript) related questions. I answered the quest...

I downvoted Grandmaster's answer and suggested improvements, I think like they felt this was unfair. I proposed we discussed it on a chat, and logged here expectim they will be here so we can talk it over
Don't think this is going to happen though. :) All's good.
There was few more comments earlier, I think they removed them. ANYWAY, water under the bridge

Uhuh. I see that got suckered into a discussion on coding rather than anything TWP based. Which happens a lot - it's all too tempting to get sucked into detail....

3:15 PM
Plot twist: another benevolent overlord entered the scene and purged the bickering discussion.

3:31 PM
@Snow thnx for editing my question
I am likeabke in workplace
ho ho ho

@Nofel No problem at all. I hope it helped.
End of the day for me now. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

and u @Snow

Q: Why is any question about security clearance closed as "job-specific"

pbarranisI came across this question today, and I am flabbergasted at the reason for closing the question. Security clearances are permitted by and obtained from the US Government. Companies have little involvement in the process. This is a fair and reasonable question I've heard asked in a variety of ...

hello everybody
Today I forgot my cellphone at home
I feel strange

Another case of "I don't know, so it must be off topic"
0
A: Why is any question about security clearance closed as "job-specific"

Richard UThis is exactly what I've been railing against. "I don't understand it, so it must be off topic". This might not surprise people, but I know about security clearances as well. Voted to reopen.

Really, people???? ^^^^^

5:10 PM
@RichardU VTRO

@RichardU This on was actually - OMG it has something that might be legal we must close it...

@IDrinkandIKnowThings That's just it, it's not a legal question. A security clearance is nothing more than an intense background check.

@RichardU Ohh I cast a reopen vote... there are alot of questions on the site that are closed because they had some legal aspect that the NIMBY Folks jumped on

@IDrinkandIKnowThings thanks. This has been my new pet peve.

@RichardU If you look at my meta posts i would bet half of them have to do with people closing things because they had some legal aspect.

5:22 PM
@IDrinkandIKnowThings Yes, lets unite against our peeves!
I wounder what would happen if an LE officer posted a question. Would they vtc because a cop deals with the law?

@RichardU I would vote to close
Actually no, I would love to see a cop actually ask a question. It shows they realize they can and should seek help outside the LE Community... I just doubt it will ever happen for that same reason

5:36 PM
@DarkCygnus Great, make good productive use of the stroke of luck lol

5:52 PM
@MaskedMan already am, I can feel my productivity is higher today already :)
