Can any one explain me inheritance with example ?

@Yasser I think you might be in the wrong chat Yasser, this is the chat for workplace.se not programmers or stackoverflow

CMW
@RhysW There's bound to be a 'yo mama' joke in there...

@CMW yo mammas so large her stack overflows?

CMW
@RhysW That doesn't explain inheritance :)
oh, sorry. referenced wrong post :)

haha that makes more sense now then

Wait, @gnat, you don't have closing privileges here?

8:07 AM
We have quite a few users on the cusp of close vote privileges. This may be a good opportunity to take a look at some of their contributions and get to know them better!

(note: the data explorer dump is from 5 days ago, so nothing will return anything less than 5 days for last access -- this will change when they update the dump, so I'm not going to hardcode a magic number in)
And on an unrelated note, remember:

Have you ever wondered why the vote buttons and score are so prominent on every Stack Exchange question?

Putting voting front and center is very much intentional; it is how …

good content is voted to the top wrong or incorrect content is voted to the bottom users who consistently provide useful content accrue reputation and are granted more privileges on the site

@Chad I see. Well in this case, a quick closure to allow shaping it more thoroughly and without hurry would probably be more appropriate. When elections are over and we finally get moderators to handle janitorial stuff, I'll probably shoot a few answers to gain rep and get to 3K to be more effective in handling stuff like that :)
^^^ as elections are over, I am going to work on that :)

Glad to hear!

in Workplace 2014 Election, Apr 2 at 16:38, by gnat
@enderland as for me, I definitely plan for that after newly elected moderators will be there to off-load janitorial stuff to them. :) Surprisingly, 3K privileges feel missing to me here. For comparison, I dropped under 3K few times with bounties at MSO and it felt totally painless, thought it will be the same at Workplace with graduation drop... but it wasn't
^^^ as this was posted in elections chat, consider this as my election promise :)

(wait, everything I said in there was a promise? I thought I just had to hold kittens and babies to get people to think I am an effective leader, and then I could run amok and blame it on the economy. Isn't that how politics work?)

Hey user, and welcome to The Workplace! As explained on our about page, "The Workplace Stack Exchange is a question and answer site about the workplace and other career-related topics. It is for members of the workforce to get answers on topics such as the job hunting process, interviewing, salary negotiation, and professionalism within the Workplace." Asking for presentation topics doesn't match our format or topic. If you can edit your post to match the guidelines in our help center, your question will be reviewed and possibly re-opened. Thanks in advance! — jmac ♦ 12 secs ago

@jmac neat idea with that bounty, I didn't consider such a rocket jump. :) Much appreciated

@gnat I don't know if it's appropriate or not, so I've asked the other mods to deal with it if it's not. I looked through your answers to find a good one. So if it does disappear, I apologize for the misstep! Just trying to reward a good answer.

9:07 AM
@jmac I think as long as your assessment of the answer is fair, it's safe. I know, I am an expert in bounties :)

Is it wise to start a massive new side-project with only 8 days left at my company (I already started it, was just curious if I made a huge mistake)?

This has a couple of migration flags, would it work here?

Q: Jobs in EU - Relocation package

user2800789Right now I'm working in Middle East as expatriate, but I have the opportunity of work for an UK company. My question is: do European companies usually give relocation packages? My doubt comes because, in the EU, it seems that most foreign workers come from a country that is also in the EU. An...

1:22 PM
@YannisRizos I'm editing it now, the core question is "how can I find out if I have relocation or not"

please approve edits to this question

1:43 PM
@PaulDonny does the company know you only have 8 days left when the y assigned it to you?

@RhysW I never get assigned anything, I just see problems and fix them (I am in QA and nothing I code impacts customers)

@PaulDonny I would probably have asked then, otherwise fif you leave halfway through itll either be unfinished and not checked in (wasted time) r checked in and not working, which then requires someone else to come and fix

@RhysW I have nothing else to do. Once my notice went in I was cut off from all of the long term planning. I doubt what I am working on will be used as is but it's great experience for me and they will likely sample the source code long-term
(My company is used to and appreciate that I run on tangents coding random things in my spare time. It has increased our productivity in QA drastically)
I just am not sure why I started it to begin with. It has swamped me this last week

2:09 PM
@jmac Obviously not here.. because My RhysPAC Campaign strategy was pure gold and should have worked perfectly! Guess we should have promised openness, hope, and change.

@Chad And rainbows

@PaulDonny I hate rainbows! You'll just be sitting there, minding your own business, and they'll come marching in, and crawl up your leg, and start biting the inside of your ass, and you'll be all like, "Hey. Get out of my ass you stupid rainbows."

That's the best pat of rainbows. Unicorns also helps with elections

I dont really have a rant on unicorns

@Chad nonono chad thats rainBOAS silly chad, confusing light with snakes

"With me as your supreme leader/dictator errrrrr .... Moderator, you will have rainbows coming out of your ass and Unicorns running around. Without me, you won't get your medicine that makes you hallucinate"

Q: I'm not Junior/Entry-Level, but Senior Dev treats me like one

user18664I'm currently a 24 yr old contract-to-hire developer at this company. I'm five months in to a six month contract. My job title is "Developer." No prefix. I'm between Junior/Entry-Level and Senior. I'm on a team with two senior developers, one of which is driving me insane. He constantly talks do...

^^^ This question is currently 21 hours old with 11 answers. I haven't read everything yet, but there are no obvious problems there -- a couple answers are mildly downvoted, but I don't see big arguments in comments, flags, etc. Could y'all look over the answers here and do whatever curating you think needed? Upvote the good ones, downvote the bad ones, flag anything that doesn't back up what it says, leave helpful comments, and check for duplication, please?
This is the sort of thing where the community is stronger than any mod. Thanks.

4:12 PM
I read through them and really didn't like any of the answers honestly but not sure what really deserved flagging. The few that applied back it up didn't really answer the question other than giving methods to avoid the interaction and not to assist in getting the person to view them as a professional.

4:32 PM
@MonicaCellio okay, the right thing to do is close as unclear and request asker to add missing details (that seems to be causing such a mess there). Missing details are about that "senior dev": 1) what it their work experience (we only know that asker has 7 years, without data to compare against any answer is shoot in the dark) 2) is asker the only one who's experiencing issues with them 3) how are asker and "sr dev" treated by colleagues and management. After these details are added...
...walk over current answers and put mod notices where update is needed to accommodate to added details. A day or two later, revisit notices and delete either notice or the answer, depending on updates in the answer

Seems like a reasonable way to handle it

@MonicaCellio I kind of agree with paul. The answers are alot of meh just like the question.

@gnat thanks. The only comments I see requesting more info ask what he's tried and how these conversations start; maybe there needs to be a comment about the issues you've raised here too? (Or did I miss something?)

Is there a list of sample questions that would be considered exemplary to demonstrate how to ask such questions?

@PaulDonny that would be a great question to raise on meta! Let's compile some good examples from our own site for asking subjective questions well.

4:38 PM
@gnat I dont know that it really matters if the Senior is actually a senior or just has the title.

@Chad Yeah but knowing how to deal with a person without knowing anything about the person is like asking how to fix a car without knowing what type of car it is

FYI: that question is an excellent test-case for the systems that have replaced auto-CW. With less than 15 answers, it was automatically protected by Community and flagged for moderator attention, based purely on the rate at which new answers were added and the reputation of the authors.

@PaulDonny not really because you do not needto change the Senior to deal with the problem
its morelike designing tires to run on any road knowing how different roads are
What it is, is a poster child showing why asking "What can I do?" is a really bad question but we have hunders maybe thousands of them elsewhere

@MonicaCellio you didn't miss it, I only figured this after you asked what could be wrong there :)
@Chad title doesn't matter, answerers need to know years of experience in general and years of experience in this particular company / project / technology

@gnat Why? If the Senior has 20 years of completely horrible work or a senior with 5 years of brilliant development... what does it matter number of years
and how does it affect how the OP acts?

4:48 PM
@Chad if that guy had horrible work, asker would mention that in their answer. Unless they explicitly state otherwise and demonstrate that their judgement is substantial, answerers have no reason to assume horrible

@gnat He doesnt say anything about the work just that he is hard to work with. So how does the number of years matter?

Q: How can I overcome "years of experience" requirements when applying to positions?

marco-fisetHaving just been rejected as a candidate for a job because I do not show the number of years of experience they require, I have some questions about how "years of experience" is interpreted by hiring managers. More to the point: How can I overcome the assumption that I do not have the skills ...

^^^ as explained here (unless of course, their years are about same as of asker, or there is evidence that their skill is inferior)

How does it matter here....
\not in general

@Shog9 that flag is what drew my attention to it, and I saw that it was auto-protected. So far this seems to be doing what it's supposed to, yay.

@Chad unless we get basic objective data (that's why I ask about simple plain years) we can't even guess. After we get it, further detailsation may be needed (not necessary to reopen question after first edit, there may be a series of clarifications)

4:53 PM
@gnat My point is if I say 20 15,10, or 5 how does any of those answer really affect your answer. I really dont think that they do.
FWIW there is a comment somewere that says 6years
so how does that matter?

Q: How to avoid errors and not miss anything

Aitor GonzalezI have a problem that is more serious than it might seem. I've been programming for about three years , and I have learned and improved a lot , I read the code easily to others, understand the problems and transform them into code, I easily adapt to new technology and I love to learn how it all ...

^^^ another test case at Programmers, system works

I tend to agree with @Chad here. This is one of those cases where specific details risk just turning it into an agony-aunt question: either there's guidance that applies to this sort of situation or there isn't.

If there is refining to do it is a better definition of what the OP would like the end result to be ... IE How do I achieve x while working with this type of person.
Every time I see a question where someone asks what should I do I so want to answer strip naked, light your hair on fire and then run in small circles
When they say thats not what I want to know then ask them Well how would I know that?

@Chad well all right, what I want to find out is really data that would help answerers avoid "branching" like that: 1) if you consider their skills inferior, do this 2) if you consider their skills superior, do that 3) if you consider their skills comparable, do whatever. That's what I think is missing
asker doesn't tell us

@gnat Do you need those to answer the question? Or do you just think someone else might?

5:07 PM
@Chad without these, I believe question would be too broad (not unclear but too broad). I would certainly have to take this into account if I was to answer

I think anytine you ask a general what should I do in this situation is too broad
but I tired of tiliting at that windmill just to have them reopened

to use a programming-question analogy: you can include all of your code and gratuitous information on the OS, software versions, CPU architecture, chipset, mobo mfg, ambient temperature...
...and forget to mention the problem you're encountering.
...or how you'd like it to behave differently.
