I keep trying to answer this question, but the more I try, the more I think it's just a rant:

Q: Bad Language in the Office

Steven WoodI started a new job as a software developer around 3 months ago in a small IT department of a Window Factory in Wales. Since then I have become increasingly concerned about the level of language that is in ordinary use, not just from the "workers" on the shop floor but also from managers and off...

While the title sounds like a good topic, the content seems more like a young guy with an office job coming in to a blue collar workplace and trying to get everyone to match his idea of what work should be like.

In the Bay Area, without even a high school diploma yet, you are unqualified. Stop looking at online sites for jobs designed for people with more education and/or more experience that you can have at this time. Instead, talk to your high school guidance office, or talk to friends and family who may have some personal connections that could land a summer job for you. — Joe Strazzere yesterday

@RhysW, My main intention is, I don't want to hear through my employer, by that time it is too late for me to improve things or control things. I have been seen that some of the clients wants to be nice with consultants and they don't give much negative feedback and don't talk about much about areas of improvements in the work delivered. But when they get chance confidential channels from employers they will give real and true feedback.
By that time consultants/Vendor employees lost their control and some times it is too late for them to change the things. Hence I don't want to hear those feedback directly or indirectly from other channels and I want to be hear early and improve or control things at early stage if I can.

A: How can I ask a coworker about their salary package?

Aaron HallIn the USA, it's actually illegal for an employer to prohibit salary discussions amongst employees, according to section 7 of the National Labor Relations act. If that's your company's policy, and it is a US company, they are breaking the law. Here's 29 U.S. Code § 157 - Right of employees as to ...

These are always my favorite types of answers: 1. Well formatted and clearly worded. 2. Backed with a nice explanation. 3. Supported by official references. 4. About three paragraphs.

This is a creative answer on Project Management SE on one of the older questions there. A user interviewed her colleague, asking him the same question, then posted the responses in her blog and on the PMSE site.

A: How technical should a Project Manager be?

Dana OkapiThis is a great question! It inspired me to take action and do some research of my own. I interviewed one of my techie colleagues, and I wrote this blog post titled Monday’s interview – Tech Talk with Ciprian. I asked some more questions related to the same issue: "how much tech is too much tech ...

A: Migration path to Workplace?

Tim PostI'd like (and have asked for) mods on both sites to chime in, but this isn't looking like a good idea at this point. Stats are pretty clear, 52% of all moderator initiated migrations from PSE to The Workplace (as obtained on The Workplace) have been rejected. That's moderator initiated, which o...

A: Migration path to Workplace?

ChrisFI'm with Tim on this. We haven't had a good record when it's come to migrations to The Workplace and opening it up to more people is only going to make it worse. Part of the problem is that the questions that could be sent really aren't good questions full stop. This is actually a problem with ...

@gnat At least they recognise there is a problem. That I think is a good start

we need more active mods. poor @jmort253 can't run the mod show by himself (jim pokes around some but jmort is way more active)

@enderland I think that is a good question... but most people answering do not have the context of Indian Culture to actually provide a good opinion.

@enderland Moderation is a volunteer activity, and sometimes we need a break. You'll notice other mods around more than others during some periods, or you may see members of the community team hanging around to help fill the gaps.
I find that, for me, it goes in spurts of activity for a period and then just "checking in" daily for a period just to make sure nothing is blowing up.

A: What advice do the veteran moderators have for the newly elected?

Brad LarsonThe biggest piece of advice that I can provide to any newly elected moderator is to maintain proper perspective. As a moderator, you're going to be handling an awful lot of absolutely terrible content. You're going to have people write obscene tirades and sometimes outright threats against you i...

@enderland I think Jim and Nick are both great mods and hate to have to replace them... be I agree we need mods that are active on the site.
I would rather augment the current mods with 2 new ones than replace any\
assuming nick and Jim still want to be mods

3:27 PM
@CMW I don't really, I'd rather active non-20k people be mods

@Chad I think they're pleasant people and I think that even they would agree that they're not monitoring this site as much as they should be.

Generally a question asking, Anyone with any legal background or anything similar have any knowledge on this? probably is a question searching for an authoritative legal answer... — enderland 7 secs ago

This question is now basically asking for interpretation of effectively this question: "what is a valid reason for terminating a probation period?" This is a question which effectively requires a lawyer to definitively answer. — enderland 5 secs ago

well now we really weighed in on this topic :)

There is not really a question here that we can help you with. It is not our place to pass judgement on your company for the salary that they offered you. If you could focus the question on how to go forward with your career then we could help. I think there are a few questions on the site already that deal with similar situation you should check them. — Chad 21 hours ago

A: Why so many +1 comments?

jmort253I don't see anything wrong with comments that highlight important points in a long answer. That comment makes me want to read the answer to see what the fuss is about. On the other hand, comments that do nothing more than say "+1 good answer" should just be flagged and removed. I also edit out ...

@JimG. when are you going to grow up, seriously

@enderland: So are comments like this permissible or not?

@JimG. we've been over this ad naseum over the past year, stop provoking a small number of users on this site
every time this conversation happens you seem to want to change how you act, yet consistently don't

@enderland: That's a straw man, dude. Are comments like this permissible or not?

Hi and welcome to The Workplace. It's an great road you have taken and makes for an interesting story to read, but unfortunately, there is not much in ways of a clearly cut problem between your story and your worries, that we can help you with and this is not a place to poll for opinions. Maybe if you take a look at the help center and edit your question some, this might be salvagable. As it stands your question I expect it to be closed for being something between rant, asking for opinions and generally unclear. — CMW 31 secs ago

Q: Boss is reneging on a proposal and making bad decisions

Part of the proposal was a complete brand design, from colour pallets to imagery specif...
