Hey Workplacers, you're mentioned in the Programmers Community Blog:
Yannis Rizos on December 16, 2012

Hey all! Today is our second anniversary since graduation, Happy Birthday!

No, I don’t have any cake for you, I think by now, we all know the cake is a lie. Instead, I’ve a not-that-long blog post, summarizing all the awesome things that happened this year. We’ve certainly come a long way since our humble beginnings, the community is stronger than ever and the site has been steadily growing for quite some time now.

So, without further ado, here’s what’s been going on this past year: …

Q: Politely and professionally declining overtime

foampileI work as a contractor at a large company most of you have heard of. I've been there for three months, working on a small team where I am noticeably the most seasoned developer (not by age). So far it's been a good relationship. However, as of a couple of weeks ago, they started demanding week...

Anyone able to offer edits to this question to make it significantly less localized? I'm apt to close it soon, otherwise -- it has 3 votes already and it is currently geared toward a single person's actions.
Then again, edits to make it more appropriate would probably make it a dupe of this:

Q: Asked to work on weekend vs overtime

dimitris mistriotisThis just happened to where I work and I need some feedback, before I discuss it. The project I currently work on is slipping and members of the team were requested to work overtime (if they want and paid), which is OK. On a meeting, I asked for a definition of "overtime", specifically if stayin...

Hi @jcmeloni, I'm just not seeing the too localized close reason on the first question. In fact, if the first one is too localized, then I'm not really sure what makes the second one not too localized.
Both are about a specific problem, and both problems are slightly different. In the first question, the asker is a contractor who wishes to decline working overtime and do it in a manner that doesn't create animosity. The second question is about a person who prefers overtime lumped in the same day because of productivity reasons, instead of only getting paid overtime for having to work weekends.
With that said, I just edited out the third part of the question, since it's speculation. However, I'm not sure there's something inherently wrong with asking about something after it's been done or before it's been done, as the results and answers could still be useful to future visitors who wish to find the answer of how to professionally decline overtime.

@jmort253 Totally agree. Not sure why @jcmeloni feels super-compelled to close it.
@foampile ^^^ So that makes two of us. Just let either of us know if your question gets closed. We'll reopen it immediately.

@JimG. I'm sure she has a good reason. Let's just try to understand why so that we can further help define the site scope. ;)
and for the record, I'm not saying I'd reopen it, as I don't feel I have a good enough understanding of why it has 4 close votes for me to take any action. Just that it's worth discussing so that we can understand the reasoning and then possibly take steps to address those reasons with helpful edits.

@JimG. obviously I didn't feel "super compelled" to close it, since I didn't.
@jmort253 Typically, anything that is "please review my actions and tell me what I did/didn't do right/wrong" is a construction that is always going to be too localized. It's very specifically for them. As you said, the root of the issue is "a contractor who wishes to decline working overtime and do it in a manner that doesn't create animosity". That's a great question.
Edits to this question to strip away the personal review request would make it a good question, which is what I was hoping people would do.

@jcmeloni That makes sense.
When you say it like that, it makes me think of Code Review SE.
Which isn't really what Workplace SE is about.
Thanks for clarifying. :)
Just to play devils advocate for a minute, do you think it's possible that, for instance, I might run into an overtime issue, wish to find a way to peaceably decline it, and happen upon this question and it's answers?

@jmort253 precisely. That's why we have the thing in the faq about not being a resume review service. Won't review a specific resume and pass judgement on it, but questions about reasoning, organization, too much/too little, etc are fair game and helpful.

In a way, I can't help but keep thinking that this question has sort of a "what have you tried" element to it. I'm not sure WHYT really applies in Workplace SE though... but I thought I'd throw that out there. ;)
However, thinking out loud, the main difference is that this person tried something that he/she doesn't know the results of, at least not until Monday.
Whereas with code, typically when people say "I tried using JavaScript setTimeout, but the variables are still showing undefined even though I verified I defined them beforehand...."
@jcmeloni, thanks again for the clarification.
