No, it's not. In the bug report that bug was specifically mentioned as breaking boosters before it was fixed. I think Notch is fairly ok with boosters (for the moment at least), just like with everburning logs.

Personally, I think that as you can still see the burning block, logs still make sense. You're more likely to burn wood than some amorphous red mass in a fire. Although I do like the idea of having them burn out after a long duration. (Too short would ruin their usefulness for this, too long would keep the existing problem)
