So, to give you a rough breakdown of what it is: I've got an old PHP project I am working on converting to ASP.NET.
sounds simple enough.
The original project was simple, but what I want to do with it now is not so much.
is it a personal project?
sounds like my kind of fun
Yeah.
is the php site currently live?

Nah. It's a lot of work to get running again, too.
I do have a skeleton I started for the replacement ASP.NET project, though.
It was EF Code-First, as well.
Basically, instead of having to design the database, you design the classes and Entity Framework generates the database.
Though, I do believe I just found a more suitable project that has already been started, to some extent, and is another MVC/EF project.
sounds good. I just want to get some real life experience, I see how it works, but don't really have anything I want to build with it yet.
Understandable. When I first learned of it I got excited, but I had nothing I could actually apply to it. Now I have a couple projects it would fit well.
The ASP.NET MVC is very powerful.
I really like it.
So, what I'll do is get one of these projects around over the weekend, and get it read for some type of source control.
It'll probably be SVN, as Visual Studio has native SVN support.
Or Git, if I can find a good server for it (not GitHub, since I want private repo's).
oh cool.
I am using Freebie Visual Studio for Web at home.
I don't know if I have done anything with SVN or not.... I work a little bit with TFS at work....
You should check out Visual Studio 2015 Community.
It's free, and it's fully-featured.
I just got XNA working on the Visual Studio Desktop or whatever it is. I don't know if I want to mess with changing versions at the moment.....

I have a script to get XNA working with 2015. ;)
I've tested it with Enterprise, though we could definitely see about making it work with Community.
That script also works with all versions of VS 2012, and 2013.
18:46
I will have to look at upgrading to Community tonight
Provided that script needs no modifications for Community/Enterprise differences, it should work for you.

as long as I can work on my game I will be happy....lol
Heh, well you can also install 2015 aside any of the other ones, as well.
I guess I could do that, I have quite a bit of space on that machine ATM

I have 2013 Ultimate and 2015 Enterprise running side-by-side on mine.
Works out pretty well.
