@Emrakul In my experience it's very common for Italy and Austria to be at each other's throats early. The placement of Venice and Trieste is just brutal for 1901 diplomacy.
I think the reason we see two game states that sort of resemble each other has more to do with Russia being eliminated in both games than anything else, because of the implications for naval builds
