Aaaanimeeee
@Aarthi octosquids :(
:/
shoujo!
you know it really annoys me when people think all anime is tentacleporn
it's the same thing with fandom; everyone thinks fanfic is all underage teen slash porn. :/
@Aarthi I don't want the porn part. I just like octosquids.
they're cool.
@Aarthi . . . not all, just a depressingly large amount of :-/

is found in some horror or hentai titles, with tentacled creatures (usually fictional monsters) having sexual intercourse with female characters. The genre is popular enough in Japan that it is occasionally even the subject of parody. In recent years, Japanese and Asian films of this genre have become more common in the United States and Europe. This, along with the presence of many websites featuring it, has expanded the genre's audience globally, although it still remains a small, fetish-oriented part of the adult film industry. While most tentacle erotica is animated, there are also ...

@voretaq7 also false. the vast majority of lampooned fic is this. the vast majority of fic is shippy, or is intense character study.
and really there's only so much batman/robin slash you can tolerate before the joke is just as boring as the TV series was.

, also known as Girl Diver and Octopi, Diver and Two Octopi, etc., is an erotic woodcut of the ukiyo-e genre by the Japanese artist Hokusai. It is from the book Kinoe no Komatsu (), a three-volume collection of shunga erotic prints first published in 1814, and is the most famous shunga Hokusai ever produced. Playing with themes popular in contemporary Japanese art, it depicts a young ama diver entwined sexually with a pair of octopuses. History and description The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife is the most famous image in Kinoe no Komatsu, published in three volumes from 1814, during the ...
@DavidPerry ukiyo-e is not anime/manga.
this is my contribution for the day
19:36
@Aarthi not false - the amount depresses me. I don't mind smut, but kiddie smut viscerally displeases me.
good try though
@Aarthi true but old art does inspire new
@voretaq7 i'm not saying it doesn't exist. i'm just saying it's not the only thing out there.
@DavidPerry I pair this woodcut with this song
the point being that this is more than a fad that seems to have found a niche, it's a cultural obsession that runs startlingly deep and old
19:37
@DavidPerry sure, but again, it's not all anime, like people seem to think.
@Aarthi you just be glad Anime is only judged by scary hair, big eyes, and the occasional octopussoir rather than by the shit pintsize0101 posts on twitter. (DO NOT CLICK IMAGES. I made that mistake once and even I can't handle that.)
my personal problem with most anime is the hair
whatever. it's a medium for storytelling, just like TV or movies or books. there's not just one genre.
and that's only modern anime. Old stuff like robotech didn't have hair you could impale someone on
(and fruits basket is amusing to me, but only because they cut out all the creepy incest and innuendo from the manga)

wait a minute
you're doing this on purpose
:o
I haven't watched any good anime in a long time
it's gotten difficult now
used to be nobody would bother importing something unless it was of a certain quality or above, then all the mainstream vendors went "HOLY CRAP JAPAN" and started cramming the shelves with everything they could import
signal to noise ratio sucks now
yeah. that's a big part of what happened to me.
I fell out of it around 2005, switched to live action jdrama
@Aarthi I don't do ANYTHING on purpose!
uh huh.
20:00
@Aarthi THIS IS RELEVANT TO YOUR NEW PRIVATE BETA:
@voretaq7 yeah, Lain will in fact "fuck you up pretty good"
@Aarthi BTW I'm not just picking on anime with the squid jokes. Germans have Das Hintersquid. There's a story behind that one.
@DavidPerry It's been my experience that a lot of stuff from Japan can "fuck you up pretty good"
cough*TokyoGorePolice*cough
@voretaq7 have you actually watched Lain?
@DavidPerry nope, my interest level is too low
@voretaq7 totally brain-rapingly weird
I've watched it like 12 times I'm still confused
20:10
@DavidPerry so... a typical day in The Comms Room?
@voretaq7 does the internet become self-aware and spawn an omnipotent life form in the comms room?
@DavidPerry . . . mmmmmmaybe (but that's not a concept unique to Lain)
@voretaq7 not unique at all no, but a hell of a pretext to start a series with
@DavidPerry Is the internet aware that it is for porn?
@voretaq7 there is actually a scene sort of to that effect
more like random hookups and freaky paraphilias than porn but the point is in there
20:17
@DavidPerry yup, that's the internet!
