I'm hoping to be able to provide insightful help to new users of the site to ensure the quality remains high, and that DBA.SE remains one of the best places to get database administration expertise.

That, and perhaps crack open a bottle of champers.

This is the first time I've nominated myself as a moderator for this site. I'm interested in helping the community and the existing moderators since there is a fair amount of work involved in maintaining the site. I'm on the site most days, and a fair number of times in the evening and want to help ensure the continuing success of the site.

If you see, the number of upvotes even for good answers nowadays has been drastically decreased compared to the older days, do you think people just come here to get answers and not helping grow the community? (sometimes) Ah, I got the answer, see ya

I think the vast majority of users of Stack Exchange sites in general do not sign-up. If you don't sign-up, you can't vote. Once a site has a large number of questions with good answers, its more and more likely the visitor can find the answer without having to ask a new question.

As you can see from my voting record, I do tend to upvote as many good answers as possible. I normally only down-vote when there is an egregious issue with the content of the question/answer.

Many comments under nominations say absolutely nothing other than expressing support. Should these be removed, @GraceNote? It looks like they set an example for others to say "I support, too".

@MaxVernon yeah I can see that. I know you are an user for 2+ years. What difference do you see now compared to then?

@tesla747 As the site has become more widely known the number of answers being received looks to me like it is going up. Answer quality is still very good, in my opinion. We have some of the world's foremost technical minds answering questions across a very wide variety of database platforms, as well some excellent answers by more junior people.

I see that as traffic is increasing there is an increasing need for maintaining quality of questions and answers. I hope to be able to help with that by becoming the newest community moderator.

I have dealt with both, shawn and max, and I find lots of similarities in them. I don't know neither personally, but they have spared me hours providing me with some info in the sometimes-not-so-logic-sql world. Can't both be moderators? It's a tough one to pick one and let the other down

I appreciate that vote of confidence, @marcelomiorelli ! When it comes time to vote, you can choose more than one candidate, if you so desire.

@MaxVernon also: both candidates are sql server profiles, I would like to check what the specialties of the other mods are and technology might be a factor

say we already have 2 sql server mods and no postgre or mysql... that might influence my choice

@TomV Another very valid point. However, moderation doesn't necessarily require technical competency in any particular technology. Moderation is, as I understand it, more about ensuring the integrity of the site and ensuring participants are friendly and respectful.

Yes, but some knowledge in an area can be beneficial, so a SQL guru alongside a PostgreSQL guru might have an added benefit

I'm not the only guy who gets to vote, and I had more 'encounters' with the SQL Server public

but other people might prefer other community members

If e.g. all someones activity is in MySQL they would rather be voting for rolando (a mod already I think) or if they are into oracle they might be voting for Jack Douglas (also a mod)
