And I hope you don't want to have a discussion about the merits of package management, because I don't. I've had it far too many times.

9:14 AM
Oookay? You do you.

@AndrasDeak That probably sounded more unfriendly than intended. But I'm really not interested in discussing the advantages and disadvantages of package management systems. There is plenty of that on the net.

What if every point in the debate was a one-liner?

Hello, I am having a problem where my xorg needs two tries to work
it works on its own but the first try it says it can't find any screens
and then it tries again like 5 seconds later and it works

5:34 PM
Sounds like you found the solution! :)

6:27 PM
I did?
I'd like it to work on the first try always

@Ladiesandgentlemen pelase post a question on the site. That way, you can give us the relevant information and we don't need to ask for each detail in chat. Make sure to include: i) your operating system, if Linux also which one, ii) how you log in (over ssh? With a graphical login manager? Command line?) iii) how you start xorg (do you use xinit or startx? Does your GUI login manager log you into an xorg session directly?) and iv) any errors or messages you get.

thanks
although now I'm facing a different problem, chromium tries to use wayland
Oh
apparently in the past I added a flag in a file

unix & linux (stackexchange)

ooh, very nice ty

oh
so sometimes when you explain something to people it triggers u to find the bug?

yes
Imagine the "gru's plan" meme. In the first three panels you explain what the code is doing. In the fourh panel you realise why it doesn't work.

Oh I found a solution by adding sleep 1 before startx
although that seems kind of janky
but adding that sleep 1 definitely cuts down boot time by like 15 seconds
