I don't think any would have objected to that but it also seems like kind of a poor reason to bring your machine to work. Just put your notes on a thumb drive or in the cloud
I dunno, I just don't really blame a company for not wanting people to be on their personal machines during work hours. Any job specific notes should be saved in some sort of company wiki and 99% of everything else can be solved by a quick internet search
In the mean time, you recall you have some notes about bash knowledge in your computer, and may also learn some new bash knowledge which you want to merge into your files in your personal computer
Maybe my way of learning and accumulating knowledge has some flaws
