@FaheemMitha: gnome's problem is that they have too many (>0) users. they're working hard to fix that.

@cas Yes, seems like it.

@cas yet Unity proved that it was actually possible to do worse

I never used Unity enough to know. I didn't instantly hate it the way i instantly hated gnome 3 (which caused me to switch to xfce). i expect i probably would have hated it if i had used it more.

@Gilles: Why do you spend your time editing posts here? Who will appreciate it? After few years there will everywhere be “authors” who can’t tell slash of backslash. The wall erodes inevitably.
Wouldn’t be better to invent something that would improve documentation supplied with Unix&Linux systems?

9:00 AM
@IncnisMrsi most beginner admin do not read documentation and advenced admin comme with question so complex that they cannot be handled by documentation, hence this forum.

Or you are happy to troll them sometimes with <( or whatever?
In my opinion, all scum not reading documentation should be kicked off. Let them learn that reading docs is necessary.
How beneficial for the humankind would be feeding vampires?
A vampire, possibly, has a salary that (without such “helpers”) would belong to someone else who rightfully deserves it.
It was a mistake for me to come here if guys with such ideas (most beginner admin do not read documentation) make career here.
Such communities shall be burned in hell, not participated in.

9:21 AM
I, for once, do have mistake return code and standard output some thirty years ago.
I am note sure all folks who ask question here "steal" my monney and my time.
And I have see (read "work for") real vampires, real vampires do not write question, they order there minions to do so.

@Archemar: there is editor in the chat.
You see menu at the left of each message.

thanks, I supposed I now look like a nood :-(
worst, like a vampire !

@Archemar: Ī̲ hope you live in a society where bosses who order you a job pay you a salary.
If they don’t, then get out of such city or country. It would be the first priority in such a case.
Ī̲ live in a country where salaries exist, but people is generally treated like shit.
For what on Earth should Ī̲ help imbeciles from North America or CE that, possibly, earn money for a job that a smarter person from less wealthy country could receive?
Imbeciles that have mobile devices and broadband Internet, who access forums and ask a question where documentation shall be learned.

9:50 AM
Sure, some people from North America and Europe help the world much. Much of technology is developed there.
But developers namely read the documentation, damn.
So it’s reasonable to help a prospective open source developer or webmaster of an international site,
but not a monkey who works in some Unixified busyness and holds his/her position only because has skills to crap with his/her questions on forums.
Skills and possibilities (devices, Internet access), damn.
Did anybody of you heard about Internet in Burma (Myanmar)?
This is one of worst examples, but generally Internet availability on Earth is lower than in North America and Europe.

@IncnisMrsi Wow man. Then why don't you stop participating? You seem to hate it here and just come into chat to complain. The door is open, you know. Nobody is forcing you to stay. Perhaps you would be happier elsewhere.

Sure, only waiting for Gilles’ reaction.
He possibly didn’t realize timely what a bad cause helps to promulgate.

@IncnisMrsi To your asking him why he "wastes" his time on something you just ridiculed? Why do you waste your time and ours by insulting the community we have chosen to participate and put our effort in?
@IncnisMrsi Of course. He's been here for years but he needed your brilliant insight to realize that he was just wasting his time.
Please.

Maybe. Ī̲ was in Wikimedia projects for years, and waited for a brilliant insight to leave. It’s possible, perfectly. All humans make mistakes, and there is such thing as the sunken cost effect.

You seem to have gone through various SE sites, where you simply join up, complain loudly about how things aren't done they way you think they should be done and then leave. Why not walk away and find a place where people do thing your right way©?
In half of the sites you have an account on, you've used your "about me" section to whine about how the site isn't recognizing your stellar abilities, enormous expertise and staggering intellect. Since the SE network obviously is not ready to appreciate someone of your caliber, why do you waste your efforts trying to help us?

damn, some browser glitch.
@terdon It would be advantageous for you to learn the difference between «©» and «™» ☺

12:01 PM
See? Yet again, the regulars here show their inferiority. Why do you subject yourself to our pitiful ignorance?

Only because Wikimedia and Quora are generally even poorer, leaving patented social networks aside.
Nobody is guilty, in person. We live in such epoch.

Poor you.

Incompetence poured to the noosphere on the scale previously unseen.

@IncnisMrsi I fully support your quest to find a better place where your efforts will be appreciated. Maybe you should set about building one? With all your knowledge and your grasp of how humans interact on the internet, I'm sure it would be awesome.

how can I flag sandeep's answer in unix.stackexchange.com/questions/231042/… as link only ?

12:48 PM
@Archemar Yes, but never mind. I dealt with it.

Q: removed a vagrant file and now I see .nfs0000000000b869e300000001?

Michael DurrantI rm'd a file and now I see: $ l total 64 -rw-rw-r-- 1 502 17229 Sep 17 16:42 page_object_methods.rb drwxrwxr-x 7 502 238 Sep 18 18:41 ../ -rw-rw-r-- 1 502 18437 Sep 18 18:41 new_page_object_methods.rb -rw-r--r-- 1 502 16384 Sep 18 18:42 .nfs0000000000b869e300000001 drwxrwxr-x 5 502 170 Sep ...

Surely we must have a duplicate for that, but I can't find one!
unix.stackexchange.com/questions/147377/… is not the same question, despite the likely-looking title
