I have a problem that I need to solve, and it may require the recommendation of an app. How do I ask this type of question so that it isn't closed? (Inspired by this question at meta.superuser.com.)
hmm didn't realize how close the N4 was to the iPhone in PPI. the new phones are insane though ... this is the classic "give in, be poor but have THE phone" vs "resist, don't break the bank and still have a great phone" decision :P
@LiamW: I meant CM10.1 (with the S2). But hey: It's actually a good phone. I just don't like some things, like the missing CM support for HDMI out, which is never going to happen (according to teamhacksung members)
Ah: There's no S2 hdmi support for any CM release, afaik.
@MatthewRead: as for the 'what to buy', I'd say either Sony or Nexus. If you mind hackability (unlocking bootloaders) and 3rd party firmware quality/support. (Sony's Android devs work with the community and acts nice: developer.sonymobile.com/2012/09/03/… )
Here's a project for us non-Moderators:
The tag multiple-accounts appears to be covering much of the same ground as multi-user.
The tag wiki of the latter currently states:
Multi-user is a term that defines an operating system, computer program, or a game that allows use by more than one us...
@MatthewRead: FYI: Some of CM's teamhacksung members sold their S3's and went 'sony''. Most of their reluctance to do it earlier came from remembering Sony's rootkit incident in 2005. PS: Sony's phone division is the former SonyEricsson joint venture which presumably got it's FOSS mojo from Ericsson. And: Their tablet division is more locked up though.
@MatthewRead: What went wrong with CM7? Presumably a half-supported device, right? (Hence my preference for a benevolent manufacturer (community+FOSS-wise) or at least for a very popular phone (increases probability for good support too))
I am using CyanogenMod 10 on my device and saw that CM10.1 (Android 4.2) is available on get.cm.
If I upgrade, do I have to wipe my phone or will it just work?
Or what problems will I have to expect if I don't factory reset it before?
Rather stable. Doesn't reboot, just minor stuff like the dialer blocks sometimes (ie. the screen won't turn on when on call, some proximity stuff, don't know) and mobile data sometimes needs a airplane mode and back operation
Oh, and of course bluetooth problems (but those come from the BlueZ -> Broadcom stack switch)
