@Izzy Has an AV vendor been selling personal data?

@DanHulme At least that was claimed for two of them. By Heise, which usually is a trustworthy source: Android-Virenscanner schnüffeln Surf-Verhalten aus
They check where're your surfing, and even transmit full URLs (including parameters) from https session (Avast+AVG are named for that). Part of the "safe browsing" feature. Article doesn't say what they do with such data (so "selling it to 3rd party" is not explicitly mentioned).
But what do they do with those data? Heise is no Boulevard magazin. If they'd thought it legit, they'd titled it differently.

@Izzy there's a bit of a difference between "selling your personal data to 3rd party" and transmitting what URLs you visit to the vendor

@DanHulme Yepp, sorry for that – I remembered incorrectly. That's why I checked as soon as I had access to the original article again, and updated it here. Unfortunately I was no longer able to edit or remove it.

@BryanDenny Are you around? May I ask you a favor?
All the services I sync with kill my battery. There has to be a better way.
I just found XMPP which can take care of getting me notifications without having to sync with a couple services...
now trying to get notifications for gmail without having to sync

@Izzy je suis ici
@Izzy what do you need?
15:36
@BryanDenny I need a little modification to one of my chat messages. Wrongly "quoted" out of my head, it's more than a little mis-leading (though I corrected it with a later chat-message).
Can you remove the part starting with "selling", and make that "spying on" – which is what the article really says?
don't change that, or my subsequent comments will make no sense
Not that I want to "hide my error" (feel free to blame me for that), but someone stopping to read at that point might spread wrong rumors. If you feel better just "striking" the part (for context), that would be fine as well.
@DanHulme just crossed... striking should be fine, though? I just want to avoid possible "wrong rumors".
@Izzy it's fair enough
Thanks! And as I wrote to Bryan: Blame me for being "overhasty", I deserve that :(
don't worry, I do :-p

@Izzy I changed it. Is there a way to strike through text in chat?
-test-
<strike>test</strike>
nope
--test--
I just changed it, if you tell me how to strike I will ;)
