Q: Software Recommendations is online

Al E.Well, closed beta. But if you committed maybe you could start answering some the Android questions. And, of course, soon we can let people know that such a site exists. I hope it does well.

I can't resists the feeling that EA buyed 5 stars reviews for Dungeon Keeper
I mean there are 50.000 5 star reviews, but all "recent reviews" are 1 or sometimes 2 stars reviews.
from what I've seen of what people said of it? Yeah
My review: "1* Additional stars can be purchased for 69.99 (best value)"
I enjoyed it until i realised how much you needed to pay
The sad thing is?
The orignal game might have been perfect for a cellphone
wait what?
Yeah, that looks kinda dodgy
Maybe it can run on a DOS emulator ?
There are people that the run the original 1997 Dungeon Keeper on Android using DOS box
10:07
XD
Thats exactly what I was thinking
and you can get the game pretty cheap on GOG
This game was so cool...
yeah it was ;p
But I really would appreciate a Android remake of 1999 Dungeon Keeper 2
@Flow:with deeper dungeons!
(and the fact that it turned RTS mechanics on its head by removing direct control of your units from you)
@JourneymanGeek course
10:09
I don't know how people can possible be down on app with lines like this in its description: "Set the Dungeon Keeper rap as your ringtone and jam out. "
GOG didn't have it when I got it :/
blah
Also lol at "Stop playing with yourself & send those invites!"
(amusingly, I currently have the oldschool phone sound off my old HTC phone, cause most of moto's ringtones suck)
playing with yourself Hmmmm...
What kind of people make these descriptions ? XD
@Shywim: people who spend too much time playing with themselves, naturally.
(solitare for example. HOW MANY HOURS HAVE BEEN LOST TO PEOPLE PLAYING WITH THEMSELVES!)
It's not only the store's description...
@JourneymanGeek but "touch my horns to proceed"?
10:18
@Shywim: thats what he's been always called
Thats just being childish
@Journeyman: I played the original in french, he was always called "Démon Cornu" (for horned reaper), but he never had a surname, so I don't know
@Shywim: His "proper" name is that. Calling him horny was just typical slightly off colour british humour
Of course, this is a game that also had dominatixes...
but.. touching horns. I blame the americans for that.
I must have accustomed myself to all those "social" childish games that say "you're the hero of the world and we love you" when you have just opened the game for the first time xD
lol
Everyone wants to be the hero. Then its moral ambuguity
Being the bad guy is oddly fun, even if you're the sort who usually plays a paladin or a knight ;p
I play chaotic evil paladin :P
10:27
lol
I'd probably end up chaotic good ;p
(or goddamned batman)

@Izzy So I was looking at this post

Q: HTTP servers with scripting support on Android

Giulio MuscarelloI'm looking to host simple web apps on my smartphone in a group (like a LAN party, just not as hardcore). Because of both lack of portability and lack of specific programming skills, I can't just develop a client app to play. Therefore, I need a server - preferably an HTTP one - which can serve d...

And it made me curious. You may've been around here longer than I. Any idea how long the beta for Software Recommendations will last? (Or: When will we be able to say "This may be better on Software Recommendations.")
@dotVezz It may never get out of beta
@DanHulme That's true.
Is there not really a ballpark guess for how long something will be in beta before it gets axed/opened?
@dotVezz If there is, I don't know what it is
19:21
@dotVezz Maybe the better question would be: "on what conditions a site leaves beta and get's opened", as it's rather bound to other terms than "how many days it was in beta". I remember having seen some corresponding information, but don't remember where.
Something about activity, question/answer count, user base, etc.
Let's scroll back to Al's post, this stuff should be mentioned on Area51 for sure.
The recommended conditions are on the proposal: area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/60887/…
If a site reaches critical mass, it becomes a full member of the Stack Exchange Network. (Area51 FAQ)
Oh, @Shywim was faster :)
Yes, I was on that page before. No absolute values either.
Yep, and there isn't some words like "insuffisant" or "excellent" like on open beta proposals, so I think the answer is "it depends"
"a lot", "we recommend", "eventually"...
@Shywim Yupp. Can't they say that straight ahead?
"Random" one in open beta to compare... area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/29480/french-language
19:30
rofl well then, that's about the best I should have expected. No idea why I was expecting anything specific
@Shywim What? Just compare the rate of "visits versus questions/answers". They've got 20 times the visitors, but 1/35 of questions...
Does that mean "it's much needed, though we don't know what for"?
But good answer rate. Must be something like... 42 (forgot the question, but we have all the answers)
:-X

hey, a new Play Store error number
23:14
@DanHulme Which one?
Ah, never mind :)
High number, never seen wow Someone trying to go Guiness? And if so, book or beer?
Ah, again never mind: We'll never know as the Q was deleted. Was no "playstore app" error either :)
23:31
@Izzy indeed, so it doesn't count really
