00:07
@RadishoftheOpera You have those rights
@David @RadishoftheOpera We are probably going to have to programatically distribute the pickups as well
00:35
No one do anything to the environment without first checking with me. I don't want any conflicts.
00:51
The modifications I made in the enviroment .blend aren't showing up in the game master
@TARDISMaker That applies to everything, but it is a good idea to announce your work
@TARDISMaker You need to make a git commit
Why?
Shouldn't I be able to test it locally?
Because git
@GiantCowFilms Okay, I was thinking push
I completely forgot about commits
Since you all have power to commit whatever you want, you can strait up commit
00:54
Oh, my modifications where in the wrong enviroment .blend
Okay, are we using Environment.blend or environment.blend?
There are two in the repo, and I accidentally made all my modifications in the old environment .blend
@TARDISMaker lowercase
Okay
good
Give me a few minutes, and I'll have my new version up
Okay, anything that I should be aware of before I push my changes?
I've removed Environment.blend, and modified environment.blend
@TARDISMaker Sounds good
Okay, my changes should be live
Nothing increadibly interesting, but I did a bit of work to randomize the environment
Next up is detailing
I'll probably be creating a new folder to hold models which I'll link in
I wouldn't link too much
only separate stuff if you think different people might want to work on those separate parts at the same time
01:08
Okay
I'll do it all in the same file then, unless I find it easier to work in a separate one
@David You, or whoever separated the player, really really messed up
01:24
What is generating the lighting in the main file?
The charicter
Don't mess with him too much though, something is very wrong
Okay
I'm building my own lighting setup for the environment, and something is messing with it and it's annoying me
Where should I look to fix it?
Or can someone fix it for me and then let me know when the changes are committed?
You need the change player.blend, however, since that file is so messed up, I wouldn't be sure that your changes will stick
but give it a shot
the organization has kina fallen to dust
There are a few lamps in there, but if I set them to not render, it does nothing
I can't think of anything else though
I don't really know where to look in the file
01:48
I think I figured it out, but it's going to need a bit more testing before I can be sure
I'm going to replace the player file in a bit
heads up
Player fixed!
Okay, so update before doing anything else?
Dah still not working D:
What did you try to change?
The main player
something is up though
01:55
Okay
@David Changing all the layers really really really made this harder then it needed to be
Can I go through all the files and remove all lights?
That way I can do it all in the environment file?
And build it up from scratch?
Go ahead and make your changes
02:11
Okay
They should be up now
Nope, I was wrong
My repo is in a different place than the github repo, so I need to figure out how to get back to that commit
I had made changes before you made you changes to the player
Yay, now I get to make those changes to all the files all over again! Yay!
@GiantCowFilms what did you do to game master.blend?
I just opened it up, and there's nothing there
The two objects that are there, are ZombieMaster and zombieClone
@TARDISMaker Oh
syncing new one
@TARDISMaker check ALL the layers
02:27
Okay
Did you just push a change that took care of that?
Okay, Now my changes are live
@GiantCowFilms what did I do to the player?
@GiantCowFilms not for me. :)
So am I the only one who writes descriptive commit messages?
@TARDISMaker I do.
just not long messages
Mine aren't long
They're all just one line
But some of the other ones I've seen don't really tell me anything about what was done
@David You copied half the stuff which caused ALOT of stuff to break
I've got the player working, nobody override my commit, that was a pain and a hafl
02:43
@GiantCowFilms half? ... hmm I thought it looked good. (I could still walk ect.)
Yes, but not shoot
you needed the bullet the flare and the sphere
anyway, fixed now
Now I have to see the the clone :/
well that is what happens when you tell a guy brand new to the (unorganized) project to "split up this game"
The zombie cloner offers a wierd issue
I just want to clarify, the environment shouldn't make it even remotely easy to find your way back to a location, correct?
@David I thought you'd be the most organized, but I forgot about that
my bad I guess
but I'm still going to be peeved because its 80 degrees in this room
and I'm dying
@TARDISMaker Don't mess the layout
that was carefully put into place
02:45
@GiantCowFilms I probably am, just not that good at starting off with trying to decipher what was already there.
I think what they wanted was for you to add detail to the buildings, and maybe some textures.
@David Yes... not your fault
@GiantCowFilms I'm not changing the layout
@TARDISMaker Okay
then sure yah
I know how you put it together specifically to work for the jeep
I guess getting lost is a good thing
02:46
all around it was still a good thing, even if I did create more work then was necessary.
@GiantCowFilms Yeah, that's what I was thinking
@GiantCowFilms why?
That means that I have to be careful with both the models and the lighting
@David That's what makes sense with the game
Hi @PGmath
Did curiosity bring you here?
I'm still lost :)
@David It makes it hard to find your way back the the jeep and such, makes it difficult
its also more scary when you're utterly lost and disorientated
02:49
@GiantCowFilms Well, I usually just get on the jeep automatically, but yeah
so no overlay map? :(
@David NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@TARDISMaker Yes, but when we add the fuel system, as soon as you run out of fuel, you will no longer be able to ride the jeep. Then you'll have to find fuel and find the jeep
@GiantCowFilms Ah
That's going to add a fun game mechanic!
@TARDISMaker are you sure that removing the lighting from all the files was a good idea. The jeep had dynamic light built in, headlights and such.
and the lights with the player, flowed the player, that is how the shadow was made.
02:52
I didn't know about that
Most of the lights where blowing out everything in the main map though
I doubt they where doing what they where intended to do
I think it'll be simplest to just build those from scratch, than to try and figure out what did what
This is why we comment out code when programming :)
(or name our objects in Blender)
I know what the jeep did, and they aren't going to be happy.
I'm pretty sure it was the jeep one that was messing it up
It had a hemi light over it
@TARDISMaker I have said that multiple times here to day
anyway good night
I fixed the zombie cloner!
wahoo!
03:01
Does it effect the main file?
Yes
@TARDISMaker I would try not to edit the main file
Don't worry about the lighting yet if possible
Or just copy your changes into the updated one
@TARDISMaker Why don't you put your lighting changes into the environment file (where they fit) You can clean the ones out of the new files I provide then.
I have pushed all changes
@GiantCowFilms The mist of something is interfearing
@RadishoftheOpera Why do the zombie clones need to have that first state? Why can't they just start tracking as soon as they are made?
@TARDISMaker Ah...
I may have overidden that change, however, I'm done pushing stuff for today, so you can make you change and commit, I can pull it in tomorrow
I haven't made any commits yet, so I should be good grabbing yours, and then figuring out the mist
I'll also add in the headlights for the jeep, but I don't see a reason for the character to be lighting stuff
@TARDISMaker I think @X-27 Ill be overidding anything in the jeep relm.
BTW, the only way to make this work is for everyone to stick to their file
I'm currently working in the clones
and a little in the main file
@X-27 is making mega changes to the jeep
If you make to many changes everywhere, you may end up creating severe conflicts
and alot of work will be wasted
03:17
yes, true
I'm trying to stay to only editing the environments file, but I can't help but do a bit in the main file to integrate stuff.
Also, for some reason, the main file doesn't want to use my lighting setup from the environments file.
It doesn't seem to be linking correctly
@GiantCowFilms they can fly...
thats why we have to wait for them to land.
Hey, if anyone wants to tell me how to commit, i'd be much obliged
@RadishoftheOpera I would tell you, but I'm pretty sure we're doing this in different ways
I'm using the terminal in linux
@TARDISMaker how can i do that?
if i open terminal...
what do i type?
type git
That won't commit it, but it will tell me if you actually have git installed
oh... is there a git for linux as well? or do i need to WINE the windows verison?
03:27
I'm pretty sure git was originally on Linux
Your using Ubuntu, right?
@TARDISMaker i had git on windows, lemme install it real quick here on linux.
@TARDISMaker yessa
Should just be sudo apt-get install git
@GiantCowFilms where my lighting changes reverted?
(It's okay if they where, but I would like to know)
As in the one that removed all the lights
@RadishoftheOpera is git installing?
03:54
@TARDISMaker it said it installed...
but i don't see it
It won't be a gui program
It's a terminal program
ah, thats what i thought
so , awesome, i'll figure it out tomorow
if you type in git in the terminal it will basically give you a help thing
@RadishoftheOpera Well, do you want me to quickly explain how to get the repo, or do you just want to leave that for tomorrow?
I feel like this would have been easier if we had started this from scratch
Then we wouldn't have to fix nearly as much
04:03
@RadishoftheOpera Also, why do the zombie clones need that first state? it kinda causes problems
@GiantCowFilms does that fuel canister still have to be modeled?
@TARDISMaker Yes, but why don't you work on the enviroment
Or at least be done with the main game file
so other can edit it
yeah, I can just not do anything more with the main file
I haven't made any changes to it recently, (nor have I committed anything from it since that last one)
Somehow, the lighting seems to be back to how it was before I deleted all those lights, so I'm not sure what's going on there
@TARDISMaker Probably overwritten, just make all your changes and notify us when we are free to edit it again, without overiding
we kind of have system here where you have to bookmark time with a file. The less time you bookmark the better, since you risk holding up others
Right now, I think I'm just going to give up on the lighting
@GiantCowFilms And yeah, that's really the only way to do it when working with binary files
04:15
cya tomorrow
But the only way I can really setup lighting, is to do it directly in the main file, because there's some wierd linking issues going on that I don't feel like hunting down
@GiantCowFilms bye

10 hours later…
14:06
@GiantCowFilms that is for sure. I'm thinking of also adding a switch to turn off the break lights, allowing you to stop without showing your position to the zombo-cubes
14:39
@X-27 Okay, how about you add it to the game, and then after that you continue making changes
14:58
ok.
breaklight switch working.
the problem is, that the jeep I'm constantly modifying will need some changes to adapt to the zombo-cubes.
my jeep's missiles run at 20 frames per second, and I think the zomby game runs at 60 frames per second.
@GiantCowFilms te first state is really important! because they are rigid bodies, the "steering" actuator can override all physics. since they spawn in the air, they will track you down while flying and then land on your head.
@RadishoftheOpera Yes, but I fixed that
?
one sec... lemme check
if you uncheck lock z velocoity
the fall pretty quickly
Oh! how awesome! ghost zombies that fly at you from the sky going through walls until they kill you!
Ctrl-Z
15:00
@X-27 quite frightening actually
As before please announce what files your working on before commiting.
I'm working in both zombies, the player and main
is the jeep's primary function going to be driving over the zombo-cubes, or shooting them with the missile launcher?
or mainly a way for the player to get away fast before returning fire?
or all of the above :-)
I mean, what did you have in mind for the jeep to do?
@TARDISMaker! I need to know how to push on Linux!
@X-27 The jeep will only kill zombies via the missiles
(running over is just way to easy)
It will collect ammo from the zombies, by hitting htem
not really, The jeep has a speed property on it. it would not be too hard to only make the zombies die if you run into them above a certain speed.
15:03
It will also have a fuel gage, and when it runs out, the player will be rudely ejected from the jeep
Fuel!
@X-27 Yes, that is still to easy
Why didn't I think of that?
right away!
First intergrate!
who the hell is mateas boelter?
15:04
I think he @TARDISMaker
And I can add a speed gauge also!
@X-27 I preferred the view where you could see the entire jeep
yes, those switches actually toggle when you press L for head lights and B for break lights
okay
@X-27 When are you going to add it into our game
15:06
oh don't worry, there are five different views
you just need to replace the contents of jeep.blend, and then ping me so it can be linked into the main file
k
after the fuel and speed gauges.
:-)
:)
@RadishoftheOpera So can we get rid of the other states on the zombie clones
I'd like to combine the zombieMaster and zombieClone object into one thing.
@GiantCowFilms well, they are also useful for explosions and stuff... don't get rid of them yet, but you can initialize them in state 1.
15:15
@TARDISMaker i can't continue without you.
@GiantCowFilms do you guys still need the fuel?
Yes, we still need the canister
drop him off in pickups .blend
called... you can unpin that now...
@TARDISMaker @RadishoftheOpera @X-27 @David If you need to make changes to the main file to test, but it is not your turn to commit, you can leave the main file out of your commit.
I can make the fuel can if no one else will, I'll have a place to put an emergency one on the back of the jeep if a full fuel pickup can't fit in the fuel tank
If I'm getting to crazy here with "complicated awesome stuff" I'm counting on you guys to stop me.
Radish is working on the actuall cansiter
15:19
(before my head implodes)
@X-27 Thats fine as long as you start to make it work with the rest of the game
all of this stuff so far should work on its own, but I'll test it heavily in the zombo-cube environment before sending to git.
@RadishoftheOpera
Yah we do need a solution
I think the issue is that the other logic needs to start asap, its only the tracking that should start on ground impact
NOW it is EPIC
Zombie Tornado!
Currently, I can bounce missiles off of walls, which is pretty cool
@GiantCowFilms what do you mean "the other logic"
all the do is track and get hurt
also! i finished the jerry can, but i can't upload it to git untill @TARDISMaker teaches me how to use git on linux... so should i pasteall it for you? it matches the rest of the style perfectly
15:39
@RadishoftheOpera yes
@RadishoftheOpera Sure
@RadishoftheOpera I'm not sure if the style matching things is good or not
@GiantCowFilms UM... we defiunitely need to lock z-velocity.. they fall through the ground... what was bothering you about the states?
unless you explain your problem and present a different workaround, we have to put it back to what it was.
@RadishoftheOpera That issue should be fixed by improving the ground collision or making sure the z value is always greater then 0
Yes, all you need to do is add a constraint that forces them to stay about 0, adding now
ok so is it safe to pull down whatever you guys did last night?
@GiantCowFilms then they would never fall.
@David i don't know... i still can't do anything
@David Yes, in fact the game works as well as it did before the split
after an entire day of work
15:45
@GiantCowFilms lowpoly jerrycan
did anybody look in the the removal of all the lights?
@David Mathias Pool or whatever his name is did
I think I overid that... I didn't know he was pushing to main
exactly, (that is TARDISMaker)
15:46
42 mins ago, by Radish of the Opera
who the hell is mateas boelter?
@GiantCowFilms add the property "Solid" or "Ground" to anything you want missiles to explode on.
@X-27 i think he did... it cool to bounce them off walls
lol, yah :-)
I made a jump to test the jeep and forgot to add the property to it, and it was fun shooting missiles up a ramp :-)
15:48
do you know how to github on linux?
@X-27 you made the jeep, look at the jeep file and see about the lights.
what is wrong with the lights?
@X-27 Yes
I did
@X-27 I like bouncing it off the walls
@X-27 we odn't have any
@RadishoftheOpera Oh, ok. I'll have to get the current jeep i've been working on up and running soon then :-)
15:49
@GiantCowFilms the only problem i found, was that if you shoot it at a wall perpendicular, it stays stuck in the wall
because, the one I am working on is a bit awesomer than the one in the game now.
@X-27 the perils of working with a non communicating, distant team
@X-27 good, thats the point
@David we communicate, just not effectively
exactly.
@RadishoftheOpera not really, we need to have certen people do certen jobs.
15:51
certen
A little more communication would be helpful
what we really need is a system for bookmarking time on certain files
@RadishoftheOpera this is a game room ,not spelling class.
?
google calendar
15:51
Well no
@David even gamers need to know how to spell
@GiantCowFilms git have a check out/in system.
Why don't we just use messages and pinning
@David Hio! i is vicent! i is maked games with zombies!
@RadishoftheOpera Are you still reserving the jeep file
15:53
@GiantCowFilms nope...
i got what i needed through'
unfortunately...
Please remove your file bookmarks from the sidebar when you are done
ICAN"T USE GITHUB SO I CAN"T DO ANYTHING ELSE!!!!
@GiantCowFilms i did
someone starred it
@RadishoftheOpera That was for pinning to the sidebar for everyone
how bout we make one rules post and pin it, rather than 3 or 4
\like this
Silence in the chat, GCF is going to write the rules!
15:56
Please, when you are done working on a file, remove your bookmarks from the sidebar. nobody work/commit without checking in first! We want to avoid conflicts, ask before changing stuff!
@RadishoftheOpera hang on, I have a better idea
Shhh
1. Before working on a file, check that nobody else is. Then announce it and pin it to the sidebar (or ask someone else to pin it)
2. When you are done using the file, remove you reservation form the sidebar.
@RadishoftheOpera For heavens sake!
1. Before working on a file, check that nobody else is. Then announce it and pin it to the sidebar (or ask someone else to pin it)
2. When you are done with a file, remove it form the sidebar
3. Ensure you have all the changes copied down before you work
