The book has been surprisingly popular in my Reform congregation; half the copies I put out on Wednesday are already gone. (Granted, most of the interest is likely to come from my Shabbat minyan, which is responsible for almost all of that.) Things that I think made a difference: (1) I accompanied the books with a sign saying "a gift from Monica Cellio (please take one)" instead of just putting out the stack, and (2) I emphasized my personal involvement in the minyan announcement.
I'd actually put out the sign so that people would realize they were meant to be taken, as opposed to, say, being a stack of material for an upcoming beit midrash or something. Once I was making a sign I figured I should personalize it. And that worked.
