Ah, OK. I cannot see any rules concerning the, well, licenses etc. Shall I put the paper books (Amazon links), Kindle versions (again Amazon, and paid), or does it only permit the free ones? Guess I'd rather take the latter, or it looks like "product placement" and abuse.

Yes. You can either use the OTA update, or download a ROM image from Google and follow the official instructions to flash it.

What's a "7C"? If you've got the 3G version, you're dependent on your carrier for the update, unless you want to flash a ROM yourself.

But, yes, all Nexus 7's (including the 2012 version) have/will get 4.4.

Because I'm in the States. I don't really know anything about what the carriers in India might or might not be doing, nor what special modifications might have been made to the tablet for that market. It's not that I'm unwilling, just that I don't have the knowledge.

@TGMCians It's only true if you originally got the device from a carrier. If you got a 'stock' device, and put a SIM card in it, it'll still get the updates from Google.

Tablets with 3G are no different to phones in that respect.
