one of our users at Anime&Manga is wondering why anime works are not a commonly discussed topic in academia

@ÉbeIsaac I did not realise that it was undergraduate-specific and the only indication for this that I see is that the score in question is used for “tertiary entrance purposes”. The divide between undergraduate and graduate is by far not as big in my country than it apparently is in the US or in some other countries, hence I usually do not notice the distinction.

This does not mean that I disagree with the divide. There are obviously some problems of undergraduate students in other educational systems that are not a good fit for this site.

That being said, I really wish we could come up with a more reasonable criterion for excluding those questions. I fail to see something inherently problematic on the question in question.

@Hakase As this is specific to the focus of academics in the field of contemporary arts, film, and similar, it is not really a question that academics in general provide insights to. I do not think we have any such expert lingering around here, but you might find one on Movies & TV.

@Wrzlprmft You're right. This keeps me thinking, why shouldn't undergraduate problems be discussed in this site? Of course I heard some time ago that a proposal for this was raised in Area 51, but not sure what is the status now.

That's why I developed nocturnal habits, @ff524 :) By studying late nights, into the early mornings, and leaving by the time the morning crowds come in to do all of their printing, scanning, group projects, and other noisy stuff, my fall, winter, and spring semesters feel almost as quiet as the summer semesters :) But you have teaching responsibilities, so I'm guessing you can't shift your schedule, unless you teach night classes...
