I am curious about the different ways in which researchers and evaluated (quantitatively) in different places. I dont fully understand the SE model here, but it seems like a meta or community question, where people can answer with their own cases, or keep modifying the answer to update with many cases. How could I post this, or is it not appropriate for academia.se?

@user1938107 Do you mean how their "performance" is evaluated? Like course evaluations? If so, that seems on-topic.

@user1938107 this community has had mixed feelings about "big list" questions in the past. I strongly suggest asking about it in meta first

Q: Questions that are lists of things

eykanalPete Clark recently asked a question which is, essentially, a list of things. In the past, we've had differing thoughts from the community on this topic (for, against). Thoughts?

Q: Are country poll answers a good fit

StrongBadThis question essentially asks: In my country we do things like X, how do they do them in your country. That seems like the definition of a big list question to me. I have wanted to ask a similar type question, and I asked for input in chat. To me it seems that these "country poll" questions a...

Hello Academia.SE! I know that posting questions about undergraduate studies (not related to research) are gray area/off-topic. It also might be subjective, so I'll ask here.

I'm currently double-majoring in Computer Science/French, and the plan is to go to grad school for Computational Linguistics. My university offers an Applied Linguistics minor, and I've already fulfilled 9/21 credits before even having the intention of doing the minor.
It would take me another semester to do the minor; time/money are not concerns for me. Would this look bad to graduate program admissions? I'm in my fifth year as an undergrad due to the combined majors/gen-ed/cognates being so time-consuming. I'll graduate at the end of my 6th year. Is being an undergraduate for 6 or 6.5 years necessarily a bad thing?
I think that Applied Linguistics would look good on an application, especially because it's a highly relevant minor for what I want to do. I'm also interested in the courses, so I'm not just doing it to have it on my degree.
Phew, sorry for the wall of text. Just curious as to what you all think. I have posed the question to my adviser, but figured it couldn't hurt to see what academics thought about it :)

Q: Should I stay an extra semester to complete a second minor?

user3445231I am currently an undergraduate physics student in the fall semester of my junior year. Until recently, I thought I would have to stay an extra semester to complete my undergraduate physics degree, but after looking over my scheduling possibilities for the next three semesters, I've realized I wi...

@ff524 That's a good question, and I like the answer. Our French program only offers 1 course in linguistics, so I figured that Applied Linguistics would be a good 'supplement'. Linguistics is interesting to me, and I already have half the minor anyway so I've decided to do it, despite the risks of a semester of limbo after I graduate. Thanks for linking that question :)
