@Wrzlprmft It would have been easier if you had to represent an invariant torus or a Poincaré section... there should certainly exist doughnut and slice of bread emoticons!

George ChalhoubI want to ask a question asking whether I should go for a PhD or not depending on many factors, if I ask this question would it be on-topic?

@Wrzlprmft while not an emoji, just say math or maybe hard math

I am reading a storm in Physics Meta. I am shocked that such a storm has occurred to the chat room.

3:24 PM
everyone was so tempestuous.
do people first coming to a chat room have superiority to later comers?

@CaptainBohemian The person to create a chat room automatically becomes its owner. Ownership can transfer depending on activity later. I am pretty sure that this doesn’t apply to a site’s main chat room though. Also note that room ownership only gives you power and responsibility; it does not make you better.

who created the room h bar?

3:39 PM
Dunno, but it’s the main chatroom of physics.

so it belongs to the public, not a particular person?

3:56 PM
@CaptainBohemian No, but room owners are likely appointed, not just whoever was there first. You can see the room owners here. It’s the Physics mods plus John Rennie.

4:10 PM
it has amazingly 7 owners!
among the 7 owners, I have only seen John Rennie and ACuriousMind talk there often.

now I see the point I wonder to know: "the main chat for the site is a public resource for all the users. No one owns it, and time on the site does not convey any kind of priority."
earlier I saw in the storm someone said "I was here first" as an argument to drive out his enemy having conversation topic not in his favor. That made me consider people first coming to a chat room have superiority over later comers. I feel this quite absurd.
