@ff524 I raised an offensive flag and it was declined. I am okay because it was deleted by OP anyway. But, I do have a question here. Are we allowed to use "shit" in the Q&A?

4:06 AM
@scaaahu No, not allowed. But usually the best way to deal with it is to just edit it out, and leave a comment explaining why. (That's what a moderator would do anyway, any user could do it just as well.)
(Probably the mod that declined the flag didn't even notice the expletives)

@ff524 If the question was on-topic, I probably would do it. But, it was obviously off-topic, should I edit it out in that case?

@D.Hutchinson I have never learnt Matlab or Python. I told you the research I am engaged with is pure theory.
I am mainly interested in the formulation of fundamental physics.
gravitation and quantum field theory.

@scaaahu I guess I would edit and also vote to close in that situation. At the very least, it's useful for the author of the post to know for the future that expletives are not allowed.

shit doesn't sound like a very graceful word. I have never used it.

@ff524 By the time I saw it, it was put on hold already. Someone suggested an edit, I rejected it. And then the edit was approved. This is why I asked you a question yesterday here. I guess I want to ask is: what should I do in this case next time?

4:23 AM
the first time I heard shit was used is when my math teacher in junior high school used it. She used that word very often. That time I didn't quite understand what that word means. But as I recall it currently, I think that she as a teacher used that word frequently set a bad example for students.

@scaaahu I guess there are a few reasonable ways to deal with it. Rejecting the edit (since it doesn't fix the real problems with the post that make it off topic) seems reasonable. Choosing "improve edit" (and removing the expletives) also seems like a reasonable course of action.
I actually didn't notice the expletives until you pointed it out to me, I guess other people probably didn't notice it either.
You're a very careful reader.

@ff524 Thanks for the compliment. I guess I will still reject the edit and leave a comment to explain the reject reason and also mention the expletives in the comment. Thanks for the advice.

Q: Adjective for combining some lower dimensional objects to form a higher dimensional object

wonderichAre there some English vocabularies that describe the dimension of objects changed, by combining some lower dimensional objects to form a higher dimensional object. For example, from the lower dimensional object (like a point in 0 dimension) to a higher dimensional object (like a line/string in 1...

@Wrzlprmft About equation numbering, I think it's important to distinguish between the "average student" and the expert, and between aesthetics and practicality. When reading a well-written book, I'm glad not all equations are numbered, but after having supervised some 30-40 students, I want all equations in a thesis to be numbered, because this saves my time (and that of anyone else).
