This sounds a bit weird with the "an approximately" ...
anyway to not have it sound that way?

@EddieKal I feel the whole "an approximately" part is not fitting there in the sentence. It is something someone will be reading out loud like for a presentation
Nothing wrong with it in writing but if you read this out aloud it sounds too wordy
We say "I went for a 5 km run" and never "I went for an approximately 5 km run"

I want to stress that it is not exactly 670 km, but I also don't feel like using "an approximately"

"a 5km run" here the head of the NP is run, so the indefinite article comes naturally
"a mere 20 dollars" "a mere 40 years" are more counterintuitive
I agree this could be better worded.

It might be better to just break it into two less complex sentences though.
