Q: What do we call the procedure for single-case admission of visitors, workers, business counterparties on the premises of a company (factory)?

CowperKettleWhat we call the procedure in which a person who does not have a regular pass card is admitted on a one-off basis on the premises of the plant or factory, and each such one-off admission is reflected in a special "one-offs log" that spells out the specific reason for each admission, the length of...

@snailcar How are you doing? No lockdowns due to the virus in your area?

@CowperKettle Not at the moment. The attitude in the U.S., both in general and in the specific part I live in, has been to ignore or deny the problem and deal with everything as late as possible because people don't want to be inconvenienced.
Anonymous
It'll be a lot worse than it could have been, but people are taking measures, just too little, too late.

I've been watching how people react for a while now. Everyone is very slowly coming to grips with the next thing they need to accept, the next thing they need to do, but in reality it's always the thing they already needed to have accepted, the thing they already needed to do. They're realizing all the right things, just not at the right times.

It must feel like everything's happening very quickly.

But! Good news, I'm fine. I'm in a good situation where I don't have to worry too much.

So that means you don't have to worry about me, either :-)

Amid this vague uncertainty I alone walk safe, in soundness.

Hello everyone! I have a small question.

A "mall" is a common noun. If the mall has a name (and is only one), will it be a proper noun then if referring to that particular mall?

What if there are say 5 malls with same name (from same company but in different area) Will that make it common noun?

@snailcar What do you recommend to read? How to prepare for the coming of the virus?

@4-K Thats a mall question.
@4-K And no, I don't see why you'd capitalize it... You would use a definite article if everyone else knows what you're referring to, or if it's not important.

If there are two malls near me (with same name, say "T-mall"), then they are both proper noun?
Oh, I see what you mean...
Well, I think people just wouldn't care. They would still say I'm going to T-mall.

cause proper noun is for one specific thing, but here there two malls with the same name. Now not sure whether it would be common or proper.
I need to explain this to my cousin who is learning english
so it is for understanding purpose. Cause we are both confused.
16:25
You could make it a common noun and say There's a T-mall right around the corner, and another at... blah blah..., but that's like shortening a T-mall mall into just a T-mall.

@userr2684291 so from my understanding, they are both common and proper noun? It depends on mostly what is being said?
Something like that.
It's what can be done with most nouns.

Also, what's the better of the two for a beginner: OED or Merrium-Webster? In terms of explaining words simply.
The LDOCE or OALD or some other dictionary for learners. See the learning resources post on the meta site.

@CowperKettle It’s a quote :-)

@snailcar - Wow!
William Wilfred Campbell (1 June ca. 1860 – 1 January 1918) was a Canadian poet. He is often classed as one of the country's Confederation Poets, a group that included fellow Canadians Charles G.D. Roberts, Bliss Carman, Archibald Lampman, and Duncan Campbell Scott; he was a colleague of Lampman and Scott. By the end of the 19th century, he was considered the "unofficial poet laureate of Canada." Although not as well known as the other Confederation poets today, Campbell was a "versatile, interesting writer" who was influenced by Robert Burns, the English Romantics, Edgar Allan Poe, Ralph Waldo...

@snailcar Good to hear you are safe. I am not sure if Canada is well prepared for it either. I have to invigilate an exam today - lots of students.
