I thought this might amuse y'all:

1 hour later…

We had an exciting night.. the wind knocked down a giant tree in our yard. Fortunately it didn’t damage anything but our fence.

I had to look up "excuse" - I never realized there was any difference.

@ColleenVpartedways We were once camping in the woods, and a huge pine fell not far from our tent. Had it fell on our tent, someone would surely have died, especially since the nearest hospital was many kilometers away, with at least 10 kilometer treck just to reach the nearest car-driven road
19:07
@CowperKettle oh wow that’s scary.
I had trouble getting back to sleep under a roof, I can’t imagine being in a tent.

In my experience, whenever there's snow, everyone except us has to stay home

oh ... snow quickly becomes black ice. It snows and rains at the same time sometimes. And it actually hurts if you are outside - like a burning sensation
we don't have those snow trucks to clear the road
Vancouver does
I still prefer cold weather to hot
Vancouver is overrated

Etymology piece of the day

Q: In the American west—the world of cowboys and cowhands—was ammunition traded for alcoholic “shots” of a drink?

JakeGouldCLARIFICATION: Just so it’s clear, this question is specifically about the economic claims made by the meme presented below. It is a NOT question concerning the origins and etymology of the word “shot” in any way/shape/form. If there is a desire to discuss/debate the etymology of the word “shot” ...

that's a very interesting and fun post ... thanks M.A.R.
These "purge" movies/tv shows are terrifying
I am truly concerned
@AIQ The Purge?
Nah, they're kinda crap. I don't wanna spoil the fun if you enjoy them, more power to you if you do so.
But the overall message is . . . nonexistent.

I don't enjoy them...
The film(s), when they do have something to say or do other than pernicious horror cliches, are simply pretentious. They pretend they're saying something about the society, but what is that, really?
'cause saying that crimes happen because people need to go berserk on something is absolute horsesh!t

I pray that something like that never happens

anyone here know how the site seasoned advice is? I mean are people nice there?

2 hours later…
23:19
Seasoned advice? There might be some saltiness, but you won't leave the site with a bad taste in your mouth.
@M.A.R. I read that in a French accent.
Un ball. Un 'amburger.
Lol. 8)
This week's treated me well. I bought myself some (knock-off) Jaffa Cakes and pretzel sticks.
Everyone knows Jaffa Cakes. I was playing this game a while ago with some Bri'ish acquaintances online and they mentioned them too. I asked them why they call them cakes and not, say, biscuits, to which they knew better than to reply because I can't stop talking about <whatever I just happened to notice about English>.
I realize now it's also cupcakes, so I think I see some kinda pattern. If it's softish, it's more likely than not to be a cake.
