"the fact that they haven't caught him yet's one hell of an achievement" Is it true that "yet's" is common in speech? This is the first time I am hearing that contraction. Can we then contract "done" too in "the very fact that this couldn't be done's proof that he is a loser"

@AIQ I think it is strange, unless the author is trying to capture how someone said something. It’s not unusual to blur the “is” into a previous word in some contexts I think. I wouldn’t recommend anyone try to speak that way though.

I had strange repeating dreams in childhood in which I was playing on a stadium field, or running, with a coach who gave directions, and suddenly the proportions changed very drastically, the field grew to a cosmic proportions and I woke up in fright.

And after waking up I felt as if the room was of gigantic proportions, for several seconds.

@CowperKettle How did you manage to get rid of them - or did they just stop one day?

My husband got rid of a frightening recurring dream by getting a tattoo. It would be hard to capture the feeling that everything is gigantic that way though

My brother has epilepsy. Maybe these were also some nocturnal seiures? Who knows.

I’ve had one Alice in Wonderland type dream that involved going through doors. Every door was a huge disconnect between who I was and what was happening, but it all felt perfectly natural.

He has a lathe now and has been doing some woodworking. He’s been too busy fixing the house to do any big artworks lately though

There is some amazing research on memory consolidation during sleep. This year, it was discovered that there's a shifting balance of two types of waves that promote either consolidation or a deletion of a learned memory.

And amazing research also on brainwave deficits in patients with schizophrenia, directly linking these to consolidation of a learned mechanical task.

Basically you can measure how well the person's task learned during the day is being stored into deep memory by measuring the synchronization of particular brainwaves during sleep

Furthermore, a new type of the MEG scaner is being developed that would not require any liquid nitrogen for cooling, which will make it accessible to all scientists.

This will make a revolution in brain science.
