As a remark, does That's banana cakes unquestionably mean "That's bananas (= crazy)"? I started listening to this, and at 2:29 the guy says the above (listen from 2:15 to get the full context). Even though I think it's what I said it is, it's just a bit of a delayed response overall, and for some reason I understood it as having the flavor of "that's a piece of cake", as in, an easy case to pass judgment on.

@userr2684291 The version in the question is fine and IMO kind of funny. The version in here, well, we can’t really tell what roast is supposed to mean without context, and I’m guessing it’s an invented example so there is no context to make it make sense.

I can’t click the link yet, but I do think That’s banana cakes! sounds like a silly elaboration of That’s bananas! I’m having trouble imagining it meaning That’s a piece of cake!

@snailcar When you began to read I would roast you..., did you think it referred to actual roasting, as in when you do things with a chicken that involve putting it on a hot surface of some kind (I don't know the difference between roasting, baking, and cooking)?
Or, after ...I'm not allowed to, did you think the word that follows would mean something figurative, like the thing you do with a person which involves putting them on a (figurative) hot surface of some kind? It just makes sense to me, I guess. The chat version, I mean. If someone said that to me, I'd call them a nerd because they repeated roast twice, and that sounds... nerdy. The chat version is a worse rendition, but I had no issue understanding it.

The joke is only potentially dissimilar to the question one (depending on how (un)funny the jokester is).
But the format is the same, so it's a joke. Not sure if you're being sarcastic or something, though. A context in which it could potentially be employed might be when you're angry with someone after they "roasted" you. "...and you have a big head. Boom. Roasted." ~ "You know, I could roast you right now." (OK, that would suffice.)

When I was a kid, it was funny to tell someone this sort of rhyme saying that means "your mom's naked". We didn't think much about it in any adult/mature sense. I suppose the topic was "funny" enough to make it count as a joke.
