What does 'tangled bine stems scored the sky' mean?
07:37
Word of the day: pinched for health
2
@Abcd It means that they were like strings of broken lyres.
07:48
OK now I officially don't get this chat's stars
You're mistaken - you do get them, and quite a lot.
Does that necessitate my understanding of them? o.O
08:18
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ What about unofficially? This is strictly off the record.
@userr2684291 Off the record, you sure? Well then, to be honest, my opinion on Mr. [REDACTED] is HE'S such a [REDACTED] [REDACTED] that I wanna [REDACTED] a [REDACTED] in his [REDACTED] every time I see him [REDACTING].
Oh boy I sure hope that doesn't get into the logs anywhere or I'd be [REDACTED].
Oh, I get it. You're talking about this chat's stars...
I can neither confirm nor deny that.
Wait, no, I mean, that information is classified due to national security concerns.
Get it, stars, as in celebrities.
I do! I am such a smart person. I always get things.
09:27
I think face-to-face voice talking is still necessary to have effective conversation.
2
virtual talking by typing has limited function.

10:38
@CaptainBohemian Your bar is too high for 'effective', but I generally agree
We've been communicating with vocal cords for 100,000 years and with pens for 6000 years.
Obviously more experienced with the vocal cords.
I think we need a couple of eons till we evolve to understand all nuances of speech in writing
Let's hope we won't kill ourselves before that
I wanna see the downvoted meta posts of that time
@CowperKettle I wonder if this joke translates that well cross-culturally. I bet an American would think of their fat pancakes first, and not more French-crepe-like ones, like you and me (and the British, presumably).
A lot is lost in writing; it's too one-dimensional.
11:01
Never mind. We have 👌👌👌.
And ಠ_ಠ.
._.
11:43
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Unfortunately, vocal cords cannot produce chords.
@userr2684291 👌
11:59
how to bring people to google hangout?
12:46
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I feel most people don't respond to my typing fully, and I just don't know they actually read my message and if they does read what their reaction is. I am somewhat upset with that. If it's face-to-face voice talk, I would just prompt them to respond me if they don't respond me some point I earnestly desire to get response. But on web, I can't prompt effectively.
On the plus side, I can chat with 12 people at the same time at different tabs without disrupting the flow of the discussion

A: Is 'bouncing' an airliner on landing in high winds a deliberate technique, or something always unexpected?

John KBounces are bad news on airliners because you are becoming airborne again just as the lift dumpers pop out, which makes the second touchdown even more exciting and often leads to hard landing inspections, and in extreme cases broken gears. The lift dump spoilers are supposed to limit bouncing t...

What is the meaning of lift dumper pop out?
Technical language scares me.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Though I may not be able to talk at the same time with so many people on web, I can't get that many people willing to talk something meaningful on web.
You don't need to be the center of the discussion, just participate in different on-going discussions
of course there are many chatrooms on web which are full of people talking randomly, but I feel that kind of talk is really boring because it really lacks contents.
12:57
IMO that's not the correct perspective
If there's something to talk about, people would talk about it. If there isn't, people won't
@CowperKettle Lift dumpers are probably the things that allow the wheels to bounce a bit, maybe
Suspension?
in usual web chat rooms, people talk just because they are bored; they don't really want to talk any serious topic.
a lot of people talk something offensive there.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ “lift” is what a plan uses to climb into the sky. If you dump lift, you are trying to quickly reduce the force that “lifts” the plane. If the devices that try to get you to the ground before you run out of run way deploy and you go up in altitude from the bounce, the plane probably drops pretty quick and slams into the ground
15:41
@ColleenV Oh makes sense
Except the missing e, for a minute there I thought it was some aviation jargon
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I blame my phone. I already edited that twice, so my plan is to leave plan in there and trust the reader to understand;)
“Run way” has an unwanted space as well... sigh
16:17
@ColleenV Ah! So pop out means deploy! And lift dumpers are not some mechanical thingies close to the wheels!
Thank you!
@CowperKettle I suspect they change the shape of the wings
nods
I thought instantly of something mechanical akin to shock absorbers when I read "dumpers"
Word of the eve: allocentric memory ("Allocentric memory impaired and egocentric memory intact as assessed by virtual reality in recent-onset schizophrenia")
16:51
@ColleenV You are harsh on Rowling!
Harry Potter was the first book which I read "in one sitting", it was so captivating.
Before it, each English book was a chore.
17:08
I am so cold. How to counter chill?
17:45
The question "Why is there anything at all?", or, "Why is there something rather than nothing?" has been raised or commented on by philosophers including Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, Martin Heidegger − who called it the fundamental question of metaphysics − and Ludwig Wittgenstein. == Overview == The question is general, rather than concerning the existence of anything specific such as the universe or multiverse, the Big Bang, mathematical laws, physical laws, time, consciousness or God. It can be seen as an open metaphysical question. == Criticism of the question's adequacy == Some argue that the...

@CaptainBohemian Drink some hot tea.
@Jasper I don't like tea. I drink soda.

19:04
If you drink cold soda, you'll be cold.
in the coming week, the air temperature will generally reach over 20 C in daytime as the highest temperature. Wow! How nice!
19:41
@CowperKettle She writes a good story, but her use of the language is pretty pedestrian, especially considering the fantastic things she is trying to conjure up in your imagination. I like Jack Reacher novels too, but not because the language is interesting.
20:07
@CowperKettle Compare Rowling to Neil Gaiman, who I think writes better from a language perspective, but has an equally good imagination.
20:44
I feel so moped and wish to travel often, not knowing it's due to being in a concrete jungle or what.
21:36
@CaptainBohemian Are you currently living in a jungle?

It’s a relatively rare phrase.

I think this chat room has roughly doubled the number of times I’ve seen it used.
23:38
@snailboat My vocabulary is extremely small!
