@CaptainBohemian "I recall better what I felt the other day at the seashore when I held the pebble. It was a sort of sweetish sickness. How unpleasant it was! It came from the stone, I'm sure of it, it passed from the stone to my hand. Yes, that's it, that's just it—a sort of nausea in the hands."
@snailboat Top of the morning.

Good morning!
@CaptainBohemian But I still feel alone.
It's 6 am.
01:44
It's 3.43 a.m. I love this peace and quiet.
Just silence. I like staring out the window at this time of the day. You can only hear the wind, and even the mosquitos are abed.
I mean actually peaking my head out, leaning on the windowsill.
Apparently they've rewritten the "irrelevant"? flag reason back to "no longer needed".
I like that.
Not sure about the rest of the reasons, but the last one doesn't contain the "requires moderator attention" thing. I think that's good because I've always been afraid to use that reason as I think it means SE sends a couple of emails directly to diamond moderators with big fat red warning signs, waking them up from sleep if needed.
And those few times I did use it, I pointed out unfactualness (??) of the content of those comments, thereby misusing the flags.
But they changed "chatty" to "conversational" – that's a change for the worse.
02:17
@userr2684291 Nope. No emails.
There's just a little number in the mods' top bar that increments each time a flag is cast, regardless of the flag type. So every comment flag has the same result as far as the mods are concerned... the "other" option just gives you the chance to explain.
Difference of the day: Conversational vs Chatty
Well, I guess that wasn't a bad choice :P
I'm aware of that, but the "requiring ... attention" wording lends a particular importance to those flags, despite the rather plain meaning behind it, which is that this flag will be reviewed by a moderator (as well as a flag with any of the other reasons).
I'm very much looking for other options. Right now, users are really misusing that flag as-is ("something else") I've got many people flagging stuff with that and thinking it's how they can respond to a comment.
Of course, because now it doesn't have the moderator thingy.
02:27
Yup.
I need something in the middle... that deters misuse but doesn't make users averse.
It's quite literally on my to-do list.
have y'all seen this?
Obviously the notion of flagging as such isn't clear.
Yep. Part of the solution could be some sort of just-in-time popup the first time someone clicks on the flag icon to explain what flags are,.
@user1732 It's a reasonable request...
yup :-)
Those new design elements are very much still in progress, so I'm guessing/hoping that sort of thing will be changed.
02:58
@Catija Sure. Or the first 3 times just in case they accidentally close the thing or such. That user had to've clicked through these reasons before they saw the textbox. They might've missed the title. Maybe rewrite the last reason as "Some other reason why you think this comment should be removed." or such, and use a cheap trick such as highlighting the word removed with a link to some random meta post.
That's not a bad idea. We also have to skirt users who think comments should be removed just because they disagree with them or think they're wrong... which isn't a reason to remove them. We could probably say something like "This comment fails to meet commenting guidelines in some other way and should be removed."
03:15
Right.
You can put that in the parentheses "(note that you shouldn't flag a comment if you think it's wrong; instead, consider taking this discussion to chat)" (and then a link on how to make a chatroom maybe). It'd be nice if you could link directly to the last part of that thing, where it talks about shoulds and shouldn'ts. However, again, even in the shoulds and shouldn'ts part there should be links to posts explaining how to create a chatroom with the other user.
Because for some reason SE hates comments.
Comments are noise. :)

Oh no! My code of conduct notification bar went away.
Oh. :( Sorry. And you didn't click it?

I don't think so.

It's possible since I've been er, rather medicated.

But I think it went away on its own.
Hope you're feeling better somewhat.

@CowperKettle because those with you are not your intellectual peers? I would only feel not alone when being surrounded by my scientific peers because only they can understand me whatever I talk about. They share similar concept of value with me, too.
@userr2684291 seashore is the place I like to go to the most. But this ghostly hometown is not contiguous with any sea. Once I travelled to the seashore contiguous with another city alone and stayed overnight there. Durng the night I lied on a chair there, listening to the persistent wave sound, feeling so lonely. It's strange as long as I am at hometoen, I feel too lonely to travel alone and too lonely to eat alone, but if I am outside hometown, I don't feel that lonely when doing anything alone.
But ironically, I can't find any company at hometown, so I must be alone whenever I am at the hometown. And whenever I am outside hometown, I can get some friends, because I am always affiliated with some organization or institute whenever I stay outside hometown.
also, I feel my Facebook is a farce. Nobody in my friend list is really concerned about my posts; they can just ask how are you but don't really want to talk about my concerns.

I am not kidding that this chair is so hard to sit. If I am outside hometown with an affiliation, my affiliation would never offer a chair which is even harder to sit than this one.

blaming others for liking to eat is Bombarder, the home generator, who hates to see anyone can eat without cooking but yet expect others should bring cooked food to her freely.

@CaptainBohemian No, I don't care much about the "intellectual" side of people.
I don't feel an intellectual.

@Catija Read that as noice, hahah.
Well, going for my first run of the day now! : )
It's a mere 26 C (it's 2 p.m. now), which is even lower than yesterday at what, 7, 8 p.m.
@snailboat Great. It's nice to see your... colorful avatar here again, haha.

Daily idiom: "play possum" I saw the salesman walking toward my house, so I played possum and didn't answer the door when he rang the bell.
> A bluebird comes tenderly up to alight
And fronts the wind to unruffle a plume
His song so pitched as not to excite
A single flower as yet to bloom.
It is snowing a flake: and he half knew
Winter was only playing possum.
Except in color he isn’t blue,
But he wouldn’t advise a thing to blossom.

@CowperKettle but I think how much one person can get along well with another person mainly depends on the two persons' intellectual disposition. People of greatly different intellectual disposition can't get along well because they can't understand each other and can't have activities together .
besides intelligence, what else do you care? their look? but I don't usually refuse to make friends with someone just because they don't look good unless they are abominably ugly, but that really rarely happens.

I get along well with good people who are friendly and show respect to one another. Besides that, shared interests are nice to have. Intellect is kind of secondary, depending on which interests we share.
Anonymous
A lot of my friends are musicians or artists. There's no particular reason for me to judge them based on how smart I think they are.
Anonymous
Linguists and engineers both tend to be pretty sharp, but in most cases intelligence is overshadowed by something much more important: how hard you work.
Anonymous
That's not to say differences in intelligence aren't real, but I think in most cases they aren't particularly important. I do think that learning is a skill, though, and that many people would do better if they spent some time learning how to learn. Hard work doesn't always pay off; you have to do the right kind of work.

@ColleenV I like the daily idioms. I think they add a lot to the chat room :-)
people of different intelligence training also relfect differently in various aspects of life
I have found females students in English language major like to dress and have cosmetics very much while we scientific female students seldom have cosmetics or dress vey fancy
I also found students of far different major of mine spend much time in recreation while we scientific students spend much time in studying.
their desk is full of recreation magazines while mine is full of research papers and textbooks.
I find a roommate who was also of scientific major but different science the most compatible with me because we both spent much time in studying while other roommates mainly spend time in recreation and snacks.
I don't have interest in snacks so I never had snacks in my dorm. I also don't read recreational magazines.
also, men not having much education usually speak fouls often or smoke often.
people of far different interests don't really have common topics to talk about and can't help with each other's issues, so getting together is meaningless.

Q: A review keeps being suggested to me

L. MonetaThis is the sixth time in the past 3 hours I am seeing this review being suggested to me, as shown in this picture. However, I have reviewed it a couple hours ago. It keeps coming back after a few minutes. Is it a bug?
